Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grand Prairie is a city on the edge. Citizens have been innovators with a love for family and community. Alexander Dechmann traded land to insure a railroad depot; early settlers started schools for their families; and the police department hired one of the first women. Leaders at nonprofits such as Brighter Tomorrows not only helped the local community, but also helped develop services in surrounding communities. Business owners and volunteers have strong family traditions of giving back to Grand Prairie, and civil servants have loyalties for extended years of service, such as Ruthe Jackson and her family, who provided support for both businesses and the community. From the early settlers to today’s city, Grand Prairie is built upon loyalty.

Download or read book TEXAS POLITICS written by Warren Landrum and published by . This book was released on 2014-04-21 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texas Politics: Grand Prairie Style is put together in Three Parts. Part One looks at the historical backdrop of Texas Politics, as discussed in the UTA Texas History textbook. Author Warren Landrum's wife Carol actually took that course using this textbook during the first few weeks of the year, leading up to the time he filed to run for City Council. It was not by accident that she took this class at that time. The Landrums knew that Warren would be running for Council, as he had already formally announced in December of 2012, and so they thought that perhaps some of what she read, studied, and learned during this class might help them during the campaign, in regards to perhaps understanding why some of the things that would unfold happened the way they did-based on historical precedence and likelihood. The Landrums were right. They did gain some insights from this book. Thus, when some of the things that happened during the campaign played out the way they did, they were not surprised.

This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to Grand Prairie, Louisiana—land of confounding accents, hard-drinking senior citizens, and charming sinners—brought to hilarious life in a bracing, heartfelt debut novel simmering with Cajun spice. . . Father Steve Sibille has come home to the bayou to take charge of St. Pete's church. Among his challenges are teenybopper altar girls, insomnia-curing confessions, and alarmingly alluring congregant Vicky Carrier. Then there's Miss Rita, an irrepressible centenarian with a taste for whiskey, cracklins, and sticking her nose in other people's business. When an outsider threatens to poach Father Steve's flock, Miss Rita suggests he fight back by staging an event that will keep St. Pete's parishioners loyal forever. As The First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival draws near, help comes from the strangest places. And while the road to the festival may be paved with good intentions—not to mention bake sales, an elephant, and the most bizarre cook-out ever—where it will lead is anyone's guess. . . "A sparkling debut." --Luis Alberto Urrea, author of Queen of America "Delightful. . ..Wheaton writes with an infectious energy, and his affection for the characters and culture is authentic." --Publishers Weekly
