Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the winter of 1965-66, concentrates of Tordon 101 and 2,4-D amine were injected at 1-, 3-, and 5-inch intervals around the stems of southern red oak (Quercus falcata Michx.), sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua 1.), hickory (Carya spp.), and flowering dogwood (Cornus florida L.). Tordon 101 produced higher mortality than 2, 4-D amine in all species, although with hickory the difference may have occurred by chance. Tordon 101 killed over 90 percent of the red oaks and sweetgum at 5-inch spacing and more than 50 percent of the hickory and 40 percent of the dogwood at 3-inch spacing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even as they increase the beauty of our surroundings, trees provide us with a great many ecosystem services, incl. air quality improvement, energy conservation, stormwater interception, and carbon dioxide reduction. These benefits must be weighed against the costs of maintaining trees, including planting, pruning, irrigation, admin., pest control, liability, cleanup, and removal. This report presents benefits and costs for representative small, medium, and large trees in the Tropical region based on research carried out in Honolulu, Hawaii. Average annual net benefits increase with tree size and differ based on location:. Two hypothetical examples of planting projects are described to illustrate how the data in this guide can be adapted to local uses.

Book Synopsis Illustrated Dictionary of Mycology by : Miguel Ulloa
Download or read book Illustrated Dictionary of Mycology written by Miguel Ulloa and published by American Phytopathological Society. This book was released on 2000 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretically translated from the 1991 Dicctionario Illustrado de Micologia, a reference for students of fungus, but in fact also updated and enlarged to include nearly twice as many terms and 80% more illustrations. Many of the some 4,000 entries include black-and- white drawings or photographs illustrating the part or feature being defined. Ulloa (botany, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) and Hanlin (plant pathology, U. of Georgia) include the derivation of the words, most of which are from Latin. Unfortunately they do not indicate pronunciation. The cross-referencing is extensive, which mitigates the lack of an index. They also include a short bibliography and an extensive outline of the classification of the taxa they cover down to the genus level. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
