Book Synopsis Understanding and Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder by : Elizabeth F. Howell
Download or read book Understanding and Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder written by Elizabeth F. Howell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the comprehensive theoretical model of dissociation elegantly developed in The Dissociative Mind, Elizabeth Howell makes another invaluable contribution to the clinical understanding of dissociative states with Understanding and Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder. Howell, working within the realm of relational psychoanalysis, explicates a multifaceted approach to the treatment of this fascinating yet often misunderstood condition, which involves the partitioning of the personality into part-selves that remain unaware of one another, usually the result of severely traumatic experiences. Howell begins with an explication of dissociation theory and research that includes the dynamic unconscious, trauma theory, attachment, and neuroscience. She then discusses the identification and diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) before moving on to outline a phase-oriented treatment plan, which includes facilitating a multileveled co-constructed therapeutic relationship, emphasizing the multiplicity of transferences, countertransferences, and kinds of potential enactments. She then expands the treatment possibilities to include dreamwork, before moving on to discuss the risks involved in the treatment of DID and how to mitigate them. All concepts and technical approaches are permeated with rich clinical examples.

Book Synopsis Keeping the Brain in Mind by : Shawn Carson
Download or read book Keeping the Brain in Mind written by Shawn Carson and published by . This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2014 Pen and Quill Award IACT/ IMDHA The latest revelations from neuroscience can transform the work you do, as a coach, hypnotist, or therapist, in ways that make measurable changes in the brain. This book will teach you how to integrate and utilize the research to explain and empower changes in habituated patterns of thought, feeling and behavior. This book makes neuroscience practical. You will learn the neural mechanisms underlying common problems and how to transform them using techniques drawn from hypnosis, mindfulness, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Keeping the brain in mind will make your sessions more exciting and dynamic for both you and your clients. From the Foreword by Lincoln C. Bickford M.D. Ph.D. Keeping the Brain in Mind is that rare gem of a book which seamlessly and accessibly delivers deep theoretical understanding with savvy practical guidance on how to apply it. And it does so with a spirit of curiosity and wonder towards this marvelous instrument, the brain-mind, through which we experience our world. It is a textbook, manual, and mental playground all-in-one. After many years studying the brain as a neuroscientist and learning to work with the mind as a psychiatrist and meditator, it is a refreshing surprise to read something that teaches me equally about both, and which brings new insights into their interplay. In particular, the authors present a series of intuitive and plausible models for how the brain and mind co-create one another, can be understood as metaphors for one another, and can be used to reshape one another bidirectionally in feedback loops for positive change. I'm not sure exactly where their 'inside scoop' is, but Shawn and Melissa have managed to identify most of the developments in neuroscience that I've found most interesting over the years -- such as neuroplasticity, memory reconsolidation, and mirror neurons -- plus a whole lot more. Either they don't sleep and spend nights poring over the neuroscience literature, or they have an uncanny radar for sorting the wheat from the chaff! They home in on those discoveries that can provide handles by which to understand the most efficient neural avenues to effect change and explain them in straightforward lay terms, they elucidate plausible mechanisms by which many 'old standard' NLP patterns -- including the coaching pattern, swish, and fast-phobia cure -- operate on the brain, and they suggest several new technical approaches. They then also flip these neural principles around, translating them into metaphors by which to help clients consolidate and makes sense of their gains and inspire ongoing self-discovery. I would recommend this book even to expert scientists and therapists, expecting that it will reshape, rewire, reconsolidate, and re-enrich understandings and enthusiasm for our fascinating field; it certainly has for me!

Book Synopsis Joris Laarman Lab by : Joris Laarman
Download or read book Joris Laarman Lab written by Joris Laarman and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Furniture generated by smart algorithms, the first fully functional 3-D printed steel bridge, and a 3-D printable chair that can be downloaded from the Internetthese are but a few examples of the ingenious oeuvre of Dutch designer and inventor Joris Laarman (b. 1979), who works at the intersection of design, art and engineering. Part of the recent high-profile Dutch design movement, Laarman quickly set himself apart from his peers with the Heat Wave Radiator, which erases the lines between the functional and the decorative. Quickly embracing digital technologies and applying them to the traditional field of design, Laarman has produced instant icons such as the Bone Chair designs, which harnesses a computer algorithm to mimic bone growth for the form of the designs. He has also bridged the distance between digital technology and craftsmanship with his Makerchair, downloadable as an open-source design. Abolishing the distinctions between natural and manmade, Laarmans work opens a new avenue for the future of design. In parallel with the touring exhibition, this handsome hardcover catalog with over 300 color illustrations goes far beyond the exhibition, revealing Laarmans process, his studio and numerous designs in office, home and workshop settings. Flowing throughout the book are informative project descriptions, a statement from the LAB and assorted essays. The American museum tour includes the Cooper Hewitt, NY (2017), the High Museum, Atlanta, and MFA, Houston (201718).

Book Synopsis Radical Humility by : Rebekah Modrak
Download or read book Radical Humility written by Rebekah Modrak and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does humility feature as a part of human experience, and how can opportunities to decenter the self empower us through present day circumstances? Radical Humility is a collection of essays written by people attempting to be humble at a time when public humility is scarce. Contributors come from a diverse group of experts, activists, makers, scholars, and practitioners: philosophers, psychologists, artists; a librarian, a farmer, a lawyer, a U.S. Navy Captain, and others who've reflected upon the role of humility. Some are leading scholars in their field; others are as-yet unpublished writers. All--the farmer, the librarian, the journalist, the sailor--speak to the ordinary everyday actions that offer significant opportunity for restraint and reflection to empower us personally and politically. For every person who feels uneasy and diminished after subjecting the most intimate parts of their lives to Likes and Followers, and for every person who is uneasy with presidential boasting and disregard for truth, Radical Humility's writers' perspectives are crucial at this turning point in our personal and political lives. Contributors: Aaron Ahuvia, Russell Belk, Charles M. Blow, Richard C. Boothman, Agnes Callard, Lynette Clemetson, Tyler Denmead, Nadia Danienta, Mickey Duzyj, Kevin Em, Eranda Jayawickreme, Kevin Hamilton, Eranda Jayawickreme, Troy Jollimore, Melissa Koenig, Aric Rindfleisch, Valerie Tiberius, and Ami Walsh
