Book Synopsis Kumba Africa by : Sampson Ejike Odum
Download or read book Kumba Africa written by Sampson Ejike Odum and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘KUMBA AFRICA’, is a compilation of African Short Stories written as fiction by Sampson Ejike Odum, nostalgically taking our memory back several thousands of years ago in Africa, reminding us about our past heritage. It digs deep into the traditional life style of the Africans of old, their beliefs, their leadership, their courage, their culture, their wars, their defeat and their victories long before the emergence of the white man on the soil of Africa. As a talented writer of rich resource and superior creativity, armed with in-depth knowledge of different cultures and traditions in Africa, the Author throws light on the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa when civilization was yet unknown to the people. The book reminds the readers that the Africans of old kept their pride and still enjoyed their own lives. They celebrated victories when wars were won, enjoyed their New yam festivals and villages engaged themselves in seasonal wrestling contest etc; Early morning during harmattan season, they gathered firewood and made fire inside their small huts to hit up their bodies from the chilling cold of the harmattan. That was the Africa of old we will always remember. In Africa today, the story have changed. The people now enjoy civilized cultures made possible by the influence of the white man through his scientific and technological process. Yet there are some uncivilized places in Africa whose people haven’t tested or felt the impact of civilization. These people still maintain their ancient traditions and culture. In everything, we believe that days when people paraded barefooted in Africa to the swarmp to tap palm wine and fetch firewood from there farms are almost fading away. The huts are now gradually been replaced with houses built of blocks and beautiful roofs. Thanks to modern civilization. Donkeys and camels are no longer used for carrying heavy loads for merchants. They are now been replaced by heavy trucks and lorries. African traditional methods of healing are now been substituted by hospitals. In all these, I will always love and remember Africa, the home of my birth and must respect her cultures and traditions as an AFRICAN AUTHOR.

The subsequent investigation was a maze of politics, bizarre theories, and shrouded answers. Bill Adair, an award-winning journalist, was granted special access to the five-year inquiry by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) while its investigators tried to determine if the world's most widely used commercial jet, the Boeing 737, was really safe. Their findings have had wide-ranging effects on the airline industry, pilots, and even passangers. Adair takes readers behind the scenes to show who makes decisions about airline safety—and why.

Book Synopsis Dishonest Behavior: From Theory to Practice by : Guy Hochman
Download or read book Dishonest Behavior: From Theory to Practice written by Guy Hochman and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-11-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapidly growing field of behavioral ethics shows that dishonest acts are highly prevalent in all walks of life, from corruption among politicians through flagrant cases of doping in sports, to everyday slips and misdemeanors of ordinary people who nevertheless perceive themselves as highly moral. When considered cumulatively, these seemingly innocuous and ordinary unethical behaviors cause considerable societal damage and add up to billions of dollars annually. Research in behavioral ethics has made tremendous advances in characterizing many contextual and social factors that promote or hinder dishonesty. These findings have prompted the development of interventions to curb dishonesty and to help individuals become more committed to ethical standards. The current e-book includes studies that test and advance current theory and deepen our understanding of the cognitive and physiological processes underlying dishonest behavior, discuss possible implications of findings in behavioral ethics research for real life situations, document dishonest behavior in the field and/or directly examines interventions to reduce it.

Book Synopsis Government and Markets by : Edward J. Balleisen
Download or read book Government and Markets written by Edward J. Balleisen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After two generations of emphasis on governmental inefficiency and the need for deregulation, we now see growing interest in the possibility of constructive governance, alongside public calls for new, smarter regulation. Yet there is a real danger that regulatory reforms will be rooted in outdated ideas. As the financial crisis has shown, neither traditional market failure models nor public choice theory, by themselves, sufficiently inform or explain our current regulatory challenges. Regulatory studies, long neglected in an atmosphere focused on deregulatory work, is in critical need of new models and theories that can guide effective policy-making. This interdisciplinary volume points the way toward the modernization of regulatory theory. Its essays by leading scholars move past predominant approaches, integrating the latest research about the interplay between human behavior, societal needs, and regulatory institutions. The book concludes by setting out a potential research agenda for the social sciences.
Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Value Theory by : Iwao Hirose
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Value Theory written by Iwao Hirose and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Value theory, or axiology, looks at what things are good or bad, how good or bad they are, and, most fundamentally, what it is for a thing to be good or bad. Questions about value and about what is valuable are important to moral philosophers, since most moral theories hold that we ought to promote the good (even if this is not the only thing we ought to do). This Handbook focuses on value theory as it pertains to ethics, broadly construed, and provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary debates pertaining not only to philosophy but also to other disciplines-most notably, political theory and economics. The Handbook's twenty-two newly commissioned chapters are divided into three parts. Part I: Foundations concerns fundamental and interrelated issues about the nature of value and distinctions between kinds of value. Part II: Structure concerns formal properties of value that bear on the possibilities of measuring and comparing value. Part III: Extensions, finally, considers specific topics, ranging from health to freedom, where questions of value figure prominently.
Book Synopsis Critical Mindfulness by : Sayyed Mohsen Fatemi
Download or read book Critical Mindfulness written by Sayyed Mohsen Fatemi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding on the trailblazing ideas of Ellen Langer, this provocative volume explores the implications of critical mindfulness for making psychology more responsive and its practice more meaningful. Powerful critiques take the discipline to task for positioning therapists as experts over their clients and focusing on outcomes to the detriment of therapeutic process. Contributors use the principles of Langerian mindfulness to inform self-understanding and relationships, areas such as athletic performance and consumer decision making, and basic and complex forms of cognitive engagement. The mindfulness demonstrated here is not only critical but also creative, inclusive, and humane, with the potential to transform the consciousness of psychology and other mind-based fields. Included in the coverage: · Critical mindfulness of psychology’s mindlessness. · The construct of mindfulness amidst and along conceptions of rationality. · Understanding confidence: its roots and role in performance. · Mindfulness in action: the emergence of distinctive thought and behavior. · Langerian mindfulness and optimal sport performance. · Health and the psychology of possibility. Critical Mindfulness is bracing and insightful reading for undergraduate and graduate students, psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, clinicians, neurologists, and educators within and outside positive psychology. These pages challenge the wider community of professionals to rethink their perspectives on practice—as well as their long-held tenets of living.
