Download or read book Particulate Composites written by Randall M. German and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is focused on composites involving powders as the starting materials. It provides relevant information for questions related to the selection of constituent phases, most economic fabrication routes, proper testing procedures, and product optimization. The field is sufficiently advanced that predictive models guide many decisions. Applications are illustrated over a broad range of material and property combinations. This title includes: •Selection of phases with consideration of intersolubility & interface •Microstructure, especially the role of phase connectivity •Fabrication approaches, especially net-shape consolidation •Assessment of typical properties, testing techniques & industry standards •Design & trade-off decisions involved in optimization, including cost •Applications, both those that have matured and some emerging prospects. The reader may have little appreciation for how particulate composites are literally everywhere. Examples include new wear resistant consumer products(Apple watch), longer lasting automotive tires with reduced rolling resistance(Yokohama tires), and new diamond heat sinks for computers(Element Six substrates). Particulate composites also form critical components in applications such as magnets, dental fillings, brakes, darts, bio-implants, & cutting tools. Particulate composites are a multi-billion dollar industry, and can be a cost-effective solution ripe for innovation and continued rapid growth. For the engineer, the wide range of particulate composite formulation and property combinations offers the ability to design for a variety of application and provides ample opportunity for innovation. Particulate Composites: Fundamentals & Applications is ideal for use in a one-semester eng. course at the senior UG/graduate level, and is also suitable as a practical reference for materials scientists in academia and industry.

Book Synopsis High Strain Rate Mechanical Properties of Epoxy and Epoxy-Based Particulate Composites (Preprint). by :
Download or read book High Strain Rate Mechanical Properties of Epoxy and Epoxy-Based Particulate Composites (Preprint). written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymers and polymer-based particulate composites are becoming increasingly used in aerospace structural applications, where they experience complex, non-static loads. Correspondingly, the high strain rate mechanical properties are of increasing importance. This paper investigates the properties of epoxy - bisphenol-A/diethanolamine epoxy (Epon 826/DEA) - and epoxy-based particulate composites across strain rates from 10(exp -3) to 10(exp 5) /s. The samples were tested using Instron, traditional split Hopkinson pressure bars (SHPBs) and a miniaturized SHPB for ultra-high strain rates. Additionally, the epoxy samples are tested with dynamic mechanical analysis to look at the effects of time-temperature superposition on the strain rate effects in the samples. The results of the testing are compared to the Hasan-Boyce model for polymers, which has shown good agreement with other epoxy studies, to develop constitutive equations for these materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite Materials, Volume 5: Fracture and Fatigue covers the concepts, theories, and experiments on fracture and fatigue behavior of composite materials. The book discusses the fracture of particulate composites, including metal, polymer, and ceramic matrices; relates micromechanics effects to composite strength; and summarizes the various theories relating constituent properties and microstructure to fracture. The text also describes differing theories regarding the strength and fracture of composites; and the theory and experiment relating to time-dependent fracture covering both long-term as well as dynamic fracture. The fatigue of both polymer- and metal-matrix composites and the factors influencing the toughness of both brittle and ductile matrix composites are also considered. Design engineers, materials scientist, materials engineers, and metallurgists will find the book useful.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Computational Plasticity by : Fionn Dunne
Download or read book Introduction to Computational Plasticity written by Fionn Dunne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-06-09 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an introduction to computational plasticity and includes the kinematics of large deformations, together with relevant continuum mechanics. Central to the book is its focus on computational plasticity, and we cover an introduction to the finite element method which includes both quasi-static and dynamic problems. We then go on to describe explicit and implicit implementations of plasticity models in to finite element software. Throughout the book, we describe thegeneral, multiaxial form of the theory but uniquely, wherever possible, reduce the equations to their simplest, uniaxial form to develop understanding of the general theory and, we hope, physical insight. We provide several examples of implicit and explicit implementations of von Mises time-independentand visco-plasticity in to the commercial code ABAQUS (including the fortran coding), which should prove invaluable to research students and practising engineers developing ABAQUS 'UMATs'. The book bridges the gap between undergraduate material on plasticity and existing advanced texts on nonlinear computational mechanics, which makes it ideal for students and practising engineers alike. It introduces a range of engineering applications, including superplasticity, porous plasticity, cyclicplasticity and thermo-mechanical fatigue, to emphasize the subject's relevance and importance.
