Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this hydraulic-pump technology-development project was to investigate the feasibility and applicability and to demonstrate the capability of new vane-pump concepts to meet future aircraft hydraulic-system requirements. The specific objective was the development of a pressure-compensated hydraulic pump to deliver 45 gpm at 4000 psi while operating at 30,000 rpm with MIL-H-5606B hydraulic fluid. The new pump concepts were the product of previous Air Force programs and included a pivoting-tip vane for hydrodynamic load support and a two-lobed deformable cam ring for variable displacement. During this program both component experiments and pump evaluations were performed.

Download or read book 30,000-Rpm Vane-Pump Demonstration written by David L. Thomas and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the capability of new vane-pump concepts to meet future aircraft requirements. The specific objective was the development of a pressure-compensated hydraulic pump that would deliver 45 gpm at 4000 psi while operating at 30,000 rpm with MIL-H-5606B hydraulic fluid. The concepts were the product of a previous Air Force program and included a pivoting-tip vane for hydrodynamic load support and a two-lobed deformable cam ring for variable displacement. In critical experiments, pivoting-tip vanes were operated satisfactorily at the rated conditions of temperature, speed, and pressure. A pump with solid cam rings was operated a total of 27.6 hours at 30,000 rpm and 0.4 hours at 3300-psi discharge pressure. The pump with deformable cam rings was operated a total of 62 hours including 9.4 hours at 25,000 rpm, 10.6 hours at 30,000 rpm, and 1 hour at 3000-psi discharge pressure. A pressure compensator with inherent temporary droop was conceived, and laboratory development was started. Continued development is recommended to correct deformable-cam-ring deficiencies to enable determination of pump efficiency and durability. (Author).
Book Synopsis Investigation of a 30,000-rpm Turbine-speed Hydraulic Pump by : David L. Thomas
Download or read book Investigation of a 30,000-rpm Turbine-speed Hydraulic Pump written by David L. Thomas and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general objective of the research program was to develop technology for high-temperature hydraulic pumps capable of being directly driven at bleed-air or auxiliary-power-unit turbine speeds. The specific goal was a pressure-compensated hydraulic pump rated at 4000 psi with a rated flow of 50 gpm at 30,000 rpm. The pump was to operate with a chlorinated silicone fluid with inlet temperatures to 600 F.A two-lobed vane pump having pivoting-tip vanes, a deformable cam ring, and rotor length approximately twice rotor diameter was the concept selected for development. Critical experiments were conducted to qualify the pivoting-tip vanes. Deformable cam rings were fabricated using several techniques. Special fabrication techniques were developed for the vanes and tips because of the small sizes involved. A 0.42 in./revolution pump was fabricated and operated at speeds to 30,000 rpm with a petroleum-base hydraulic fluid. The vane and tip, cam ring, and rotor concepts have been confirmed. The turbine-speed pump has many potential applications because of its high speed, light weight, and compactness. Continued developmental effort is needed to improve cam-ring fabrication techniques, further establish efficiency characteristics, and establish durability. (Author).
