Book Synopsis HIGH PERFORMANCE BULK FUEL PUMPS. by : MARINE CORPS LANDING FORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER QUANTICO VA.
Download or read book HIGH PERFORMANCE BULK FUEL PUMPS. written by MARINE CORPS LANDING FORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER QUANTICO VA. and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efforts were directed to test higher capacity pumps to determine their effect on transfer rates and the distance that fuel could be pumped. The two pumps used in this evaluation were a 600 gpm at 125 psi pump driven by a gas turbine and a 500 gpm at 150 psi pump driven by a diesel engine. Conclusions. Gas turbine powered pumps are not suitable for use in the AAFS at this time because of: High fuel consumption, High initial costs, High maintenance costs, Lack of speed control, Requirement for specially trained maintenance personnel. Book Synopsis Design and Evaluation of Advanced High-Speed Fuel Pump by : Harry T. Johnson
Download or read book Design and Evaluation of Advanced High-Speed Fuel Pump written by Harry T. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this program was to develop both the technology and the experimental hardware to experimentally demonstrate that a main-engine fuel pump could be operated at turbine-engine shaft speeds. A single-lobe vane pump has been designed and successfully operated at speeds up to 49,500 rpm and outlet pressures up to 900 psig while pumping JP-4 turbine fuel. The promosing capabilities demonstrated by this pump were the result of the successful application of hydrodynamic lubrication techniques to the vane design. The pivoting vane tip concept incorporated permits tip surface speeds up to 180 fps to be achieved without producing high mechanical power losses or sacrificing the pump endurance capabilities. The present experimental fuel pump represents a significant step toward the development of flight hardware capable of operating at engine shaft speed. It meets the basic performance requirements of a main-engine fuel pump typically required on small, highspeed gas-turbine engines. In addition, it appears that a variable-displacement capability could be developed directly from the present hardware without altering the established high-speed capabilities. (Author).
