Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Placing American Indians in the center of the story, Restoring a Presence relates an entirely new history of Yellowstone National Park. Although new laws have been enacted giving American Indians access to resources on public lands, Yellowstone historically has excluded Indians and their needs from its mission. Each of the other flagship national parks—Glacier, Yosemite, Mesa Verde, and Grand Canyon—has had successful long-term relationships with American Indian groups even as it has sought to emulate Yellowstone in other dimensions of national park administration. In the first comprehensive account of Indians in and around Yellowstone, Peter Nabokov and Lawrence Loendorf seek to correct this administrative disparity. Drawing from archaeological records, Indian testimony, tribal archives, and collections of early artifacts from the Park, the authors trace the interactions of nearly a dozen Indian groups with each of Yellowstone’s four geographic regions. Restoring a Presence is illustrated with historical and contemporary photographs and maps and features narratives on subjects ranging from traditional Indian uses of plant, mineral, and animal resources to conflicts involving the Nez Perce, Bannock, and Sheep Eater peoples. By considering the many roles Indians have played in the complex history of the Yellowstone region, authors Nabokov and Loendorf provide a basis on which the National Park Service and other federal agencies can develop more effective relationships with Indian groups in the Yellowstone region.

Book excerpt: "Mountain Time, a thoughtful and often moving work, is not only about Yellowstone as a superb sample of American wildness, . . . but also about a man named Paul Schullery and his relationship to it. This fact gives the book much richness and power, for Schullery comes across clearly as a caring, observant, undogmatic person whose reasonable and intelligent opinions are reinforced by plenty of facts. In a certain mood, it is possible to wish (vainly) that people of his civilized caliber were the only ones allowed to open their mouths very widely on any subject that really matters, as Yellowstone definitely does."--John Graves, author of Goodbye to a River and From a Limestone Lodge "Paul has pushed outdoor writing to new limits. I pay him the highest compliment I can: I wish I had written Mountain Time."--Lionel Atwill, Sports Afield

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brian R. Webster is a physician assistant, who has pursued God most of his adult life. He lost his two best friends in high school, due to an amusement park ride accident. He came close to dying, as well. He's practiced medicine in various specialties, Substance Abuse, and in maximum security prisons. His first wife, a severe diabetic, went blind on their honeymoon. Later, she died from two separate breast cancers after almost twenty years of marriage. Amidst the struggles and adversities in Brian's life, he has continued trusting and pursuing God. As Paul said in the analogy of his life, "I have fought the good fight, and have finished my race." Christians, who are followers of Christ, have their own race to run. It is a marathon, not a sprint. The race only ends at death. Then, the trophy is presented to the victor, by God. The crowd observing the race is comprised of everyone encountered during their lifetime. Just like the Iron-Man races, the supporters are there to cheer at the finish line. This book is designed to encourage runners to fight discouragement and struggles during various life storms; to continue their trust in God; to complete their race. - This book is ideal for encouraging personal growth in Bible studies. - This book can aid in strengthening individuals in their personal relationship with Christ. - This book can help Christ's followers better deal with personal tragedy, PTSD, fear, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. And, to better understand how Satan uses distractions and diversions in his attempts to remove us from our race for God.
