Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: D. James Kennedy, PhD, was for decades one of the most trusted and gifted leaders of the Christian faith. And now with The Presence of a Hidden God, the book he completed shortly before his passing, he offers you one more opportunity to know and love the God whom Dr. Kennedy served so courageously. With powerful biblical exposition, clarity of thought, and fascinating examples from history and life, Dr. Kennedy and Jerry Newcombe guide you into a fuller clearer knowledge of almighty God. They reveal that, first and foremost, God is found in Jesus Christ: “No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” (Matthew 11:27, esv). But we must not be passive if we want a relationship with God. The Bible tells us that God can be found through faith, repentance, prayer, Bible reading and study, meditation, giving, and sharing our faith. In this book, Dr. Kennedy expounds brilliantly on these truths. Join in this life-changing journey of discovery, and see that God is not hidden after all, but is present with you…now and forever.
Book Synopsis Hidden in the Mix by : Diane Pecknold
Download or read book Hidden in the Mix written by Diane Pecknold and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Country music's debt to African American music has long been recognized. Black musicians have helped to shape the styles of many of the most important performers in the country canon. The partnership between Lesley Riddle and A. P. Carter produced much of the Carter Family's repertoire; the street musician Tee Tot Payne taught a young Hank Williams Sr.; the guitar playing of Arnold Schultz influenced western Kentuckians, including Bill Monroe and Ike Everly. Yet attention to how these and other African Americans enriched the music played by whites has obscured the achievements of black country-music performers and the enjoyment of black listeners. The contributors to Hidden in the Mix examine how country music became "white," how that fictive racialization has been maintained, and how African American artists and fans have used country music to elaborate their own identities. They investigate topics as diverse as the role of race in shaping old-time record catalogues, the transracial West of the hick-hopper Cowboy Troy, and the place of U.S. country music in postcolonial debates about race and resistance. Revealing how music mediates both the ideology and the lived experience of race, Hidden in the Mix challenges the status of country music as "the white man’s blues." Contributors. Michael Awkward, Erika Brady, Barbara Ching, Adam Gussow, Patrick Huber, Charles Hughes, Jeffrey A. Keith, Kip Lornell, Diane Pecknold, David Sanjek, Tony Thomas, Jerry Wever

Book Synopsis The Politics of Hiding, Invisibility, and Silence by : Rhys Dafydd Jones
Download or read book The Politics of Hiding, Invisibility, and Silence written by Rhys Dafydd Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is absence? What is presence? How are these two phenomena related? Is absence merely not being present? This book examines these and other questions relating to the role of absence and presence in everyday politics. Absence and presence are used as political tools in global events and everyday life to reinforce ideas about space, society, and belonging. Between Absence and Presence contains six empirically-focussed chapters introducing case study locations and contexts from around the world. These studies examine how particular groups’ relationships with places and spaces are characterized by experiences that are neither wholly present nor wholly absent. Each author demonstrates the variety of ways in which absence and presence are experienced – through silence, forgetting, concealment, distance, and the virtual – and constituted – through visual, aural, and technological. Such accounts also raise philosophical questions about representation and belonging: what must remain absent, and what is allowed to be present? Who decides, and how? Whose voices are heard? Recognizing the complexity of these questions, Between Absence and Presence provides a significant contribution in reconciling theorizations of absence with everyday life. This book was published a sa special issue of Space and Polity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After The Tale of Genji (c. 1000), the greatest work of classical Japanese literature is the historical narrative The Tale of the Heike (13th-14th centuries). In addition to opening up fresh perspectives on the Heike narratives, this study also draws attention to a range of problems centered on the interrelationship between narrative, ritual space, and Japan's changing views of China as they bear on depictions of the emperor's authority, warriors, and marginal population going all the way back to the Nara period. By situating the Heike in this long temporal framework, the author sheds light on a hidden history of royal authority that was entangled in Daoist and yin-yang ideas in the Nara period, practices centered on defilement in the Heian period, and Buddhist doctrines pertaining to original enlightenment in the medieval period, all of which resurface and combine in Heike's narrative world. In introducing for the first time the full range of Heike narrative to students and scholars of Japanese literature, the author argues that we must also reexamine our understanding of the literature, ritual, and culture of the Heian and Nara periods.

His reflections have become the devotional classic The Practice of the Presence of God. Discover his secret as you read this timeless classic! Brother Lawrence was born Nicholas Herman in Lorraine province, France in about 1605. He came from a humble background and was an unlearned man. He became a Christian in 1629, and after being a soldier and a footman for some time, he entered the religious community of the Carmelites in Paris in about 1649. It was there, as a lay brother, that he took the name of Brother Lawrence. He remained in the community until his death in 1691. While in the community he worked most of the time as a helper in the kitchen; it is in this specific surrounding that he became known for his simple, practical faith. Originally published in French as La pratique de la prâesence de Dieu.
