Book excerpt: Before Buddha there were religions but never a pure religiousness. Man was not yet mature. With Buddha, humanity enters into a mature age. All human beings have not yet entered into that, that's true, but Buddha has heralded the path; Buddha has opened the gateless gate. It takes time for human beings to understand such a deep message. Buddha's message is the deepest ever. Nobody has done the work that Buddha has done, the way he has done. Nobody else represents pure fragrance. Other founders of religions, other enlightened people, have compromised with their audience. Buddha remains uncompromised, hence his purity. He does not care what you can understand, he cares only what the truth is. And he says it without being worried whether you understand it or not. In a way this looks hard; in another way this is great compassion.

Book Synopsis Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen by : Paul U. Unschuld
Download or read book Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen written by Paul U. Unschuld and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 1553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A foundation of Chinese life sciences and medicine, the Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen is now available for the first time in a complete, fully annotated English translation. Also known as Su Wen, or The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic, this influential work came into being over a long period reaching from the 2nd century bce to the 8th century ce. Combining the views of different schools, it relies exclusively on natural law as conceptualized in yin/yang and Five Agents doctrines to define health and disease, and repeatedly emphasizes personal responsibility for the length and quality of one’s life. This two-volume edition includes excerpts from all the major commentaries on the Su Wen, and extensive annotation drawn from hundreds of monographs and articles by Chinese and Japanese authors produced over the past 1600 years and into the twentieth century. The original printing of this title contained an enclosed CD containing annotated bibliographies of Huang Di Nei Jing editions, related monographs, and articles. These contents can now be accessed on the UC Press website via "Downloads" (www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520266988).

Book Synopsis The Forms of the Affects by : Eugenie Brinkema
Download or read book The Forms of the Affects written by Eugenie Brinkema and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the relationship between a cinematic grid of color and that most visceral of negative affects, disgust? How might anxiety be a matter of an interrupted horizontal line, or grief a figure of blazing light? Offering a bold corrective to the emphasis on embodiment and experience in recent affect theory, Eugenie Brinkema develops a novel mode of criticism that locates the forms of particular affects within the specific details of cinematic and textual construction. Through close readings of works by Roland Barthes, Hollis Frampton, Sigmund Freud, Peter Greenaway, Michael Haneke, Alfred Hitchcock, Søren Kierkegaard, and David Lynch, Brinkema shows that deep attention to form, structure, and aesthetics enables a fundamental rethinking of the study of sensation. In the process, she delves into concepts as diverse as putrescence in French gastronomy, the role of the tear in philosophies of emotion, Nietzschean joy as a wild aesthetic of repetition, and the psychoanalytic theory of embarrassment. Above all, this provocative work is a call to harness the vitality of the affective turn for a renewed exploration of the possibilities of cinematic form.

Download or read book Physiology of the Eye written by Hugh Davson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physiology of the Eye, Fourth Edition reviews major advances in the physiology of the eye, including improvements in photochemical and electrophysiological techniques. In particular, the successful application of modern microelectrode techniques to the recording of activity at all stages in the visual pathway is considered. This edition is organized into four sections encompassing 23 chapters and begins with an overview of the anatomy of the eye and its vegetative physiology and biochemistry, paying particular attention to the aqueous humor and the intraocular pressure, the vitreous body, the cornea, and the lens. The discussion then shifts to the mechanism of vision, including its photochemical aspects and muscular mechanisms, and the neurophysiology of visual perception. Advances in electrophysiology of the receptors, and of the central nervous pathways of vision and eye movement, are examined along with the remarkable developments in separative techniques of the lens crystallins and the biochemical aspects of lens transparency. This book is a valuable resource for students and researchers in fields ranging from ocular science to physiology and biochemistry.

Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html Dear reader, before you is the famous book of words /homilies/ of the “great teacher of the inner life” – Rev. Isaac the Syrian, translated by the holy elder Paisius Velichkovsky, edited and with notes by the Rev. Macarius of Optina. This publication was a testament to the revival of the spirit of true monasticism and spiritual life in Russia in the middle of the 19th century. The beginning of this revival is inextricably linked with the activities of the Rev. Paisius Velichkovsky, who acquired the spirit of ancient monasticism in the patristic writings and on Athos and transmitted it through his disciples to the pious Russian people. The spiritual exploit of Rev. Paisius consisted in the translation from the Greek language of the “active” creations of the Holy Fathers and in the embodiment of the ancient ascetic teachings in his life and his disciples. Troparion to the Monk Isaac the Syrian, Bishop of Nineveh, Tone 1 A good priest in the city, / you also settled in the deserts, and flourished, Oh Isaac, / you proved the head of monastics / and the teacher of ascetics, / for this, those who are celebrating worthily your memory, we all call out: / glory to Christ Who glorified you, / glory to Him Who sanctified you, / / glory to Him Who gave us thee, Oh skillful prelate. Kontakion to Rev. Isaac the Syrian, Bishop of Nineveh, Tone 8 Like a God-bearing and reverend hierarch, / we praise thee as founder of the desert, / Oh Isaac appeared to us priestly. / But as one who has boldness in the Lord, / pray for all who honor thee and cry out to thee: // Rejoice, Oh God-wise Father of ours.

Book Synopsis Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film, and Dry Eye Syndromes by : David A. Sullivan
Download or read book Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film, and Dry Eye Syndromes written by David A. Sullivan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade a significant international research effort has been directed towards understanding the composition and regulation of the preocular tear film. This effort has been motivated by the recognition that the tear film plays an essential role in maintaining corneal and conjunctival integrity, protecting against microbial challenge and preserving visual acuity. In addition, research has been stimulated by the knowledge that alteration or deficiency of the tear film, which occurs in countless individuals throughout the world, may lead to desiccation of the ocular surface, ulceration and perforation of the cornea, an increased incidence of infectious disease, and potentially, pronounced visual disability and blindness. 7 To promote further progress in this field of vision research, the International Conference on the Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film and Dry Eye Syndromes: Basic Science and Clinical Relevance was held in the Southampton Princess Resort in Bermuda from November 14 to 17, 1992. This meeting was designed to assess critically the current knowledge and 'state of the art' research on the structure and function of lacrimal tissue and tears in both health and disease. The goal of this conference was to provide an international exchange of information that would be of value to basic scientists involved in eye research, to physicians in the ophthalmological community, and to pharmaceutical companies with an interest in the treatment of lacrimal gland, tear film or ocular surface disorders (e. g. Sjogren's syndrome).
