Book Synopsis Head, Heart & Hands by : Dennis P. Hollinger
Download or read book Head, Heart & Hands written by Dennis P. Hollinger and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, we are to love God with all of our being--heart, mind, soul and strength. But many of us tend to overemphasize one aspect or another, and as a result, our faith becomes imbalanced. Some of us have an intellectual faith but lack compassion or spiritual discipline. Others of us have a vibrant, heartfelt relationship with God but lack commitment to truth or doctrine. And many of us overlook translating our faith into service and ministry. In this book ethicist Dennis P. Hollinger presents a holistic, integrative vision for reuniting Christian thought, passion and action. He shows how individuals, churches and movements throughout history have focused on either the head, or the heart or the hands--often to the exclusion of other expressions. But by linking our intellect, emotions and actions, Hollinger points us toward a whole faith for the whole person, where each dimension feeds, nurtures and sustains the others.

Download or read book The Heart in My Head written by Roxanne M. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Los Angeles, November 2009 My meeting with Claudia took place at her house in Beverly Hills just one month after I returned home to Los Angeles from my trip to Iran. It was Sunday in November, a crisp Sunday afternoon. the sun was getting gold over the ocean. the city was peaceful; the streets were quiet and the sidewalks empty. I took the main thoroughfare, Wilshire Boulevard, as I left Ocean Avenue. I felt a sense of victory and elation for not being caught in the traffic and the noise of the world. There is nothing more pleasant than driving on Sundays in Los Angeles; the city takes on an entirely different air. on weekend getaways, I would say I find myself totally in a mental exercise of freedom. As I looked around, I saw the sun come up red, red and dull. I thought it just looked like the yolk of a hard-boiled egg. Since my relationship with Claudia was strictly professional, I must admit I felt a bit strange about meeting her outside the context of our work as she had suggested. She had called me and asked me to visit her--"Come have a drink with me"--something she had not done more than two or three times since the day that she had hired me. Even though we both had the art world in common, we only knew each other through our work. Who could suppose that this meeting would lead me to the first, and perhaps biggest, achievement of my life?
Book Synopsis Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart by : Bob Dowell
Download or read book Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart written by Bob Dowell and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart provides readers a forum for more fully comprehending the Bible. Each book of the Bible tells a story that relates to the larger story, and to understand each book’s story, it is important to understand the larger story, and vice versa. To do so, however, entails a careful reading of the entire Bible, grasping both the fact of the story and the spirit of the story. Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart provides prose summaries for helping the reader to understand and remember the fact of the story and poetic summaries for helping the reader to experience the story and thereby to more readily ingest its spirit. Since Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart would be lengthy under one cover, it is divided into three parts. Part One addresses the Old Testament, Part Two addresses Matthew through Acts, and Part Three—this publication—addresses Romans through Revelation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible reveals glorious things. And yet we often miss its power because we read it the same way we read any other book. In Reading the Bible Supernaturally, best-selling author John Piper teaches us how to read the Bible in light of its divine author. In doing so, he highlights the Bible's unique ability to reveal God to humanity in a way that informs our minds, transforms our hearts, and ignites our love. With insights into the biblical text drawn from decades of experience studying, preaching, and teaching Scripture, Piper helps us experience the transformative power of God's Word—a power that extends beyond the mere words on the page. Ultimately, Piper shows us that in the seemingly ordinary act of reading the Bible, something supernatural happens: we encounter the living God.
Book Synopsis Youth, Heart of Darkness, The End of the Tether by : Joseph Conrad
Download or read book Youth, Heart of Darkness, The End of the Tether written by Joseph Conrad and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-10-07 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Youth', Heart of Darkness and 'The End of the Tether' make up Conrad's most celebrated collection of short narratives. Heart of Darkness forms its sombre centrepiece: set in the Congo of the 1890s, this haunting and widely influential Modernist masterpiece explores the limits of human experience as well as the nightmarish realities and consequences of imperialism. The Cambridge edition presents this trio of stories and Conrad's preface to the collection in forms more authoritative than any so far published. The introduction situates the stories in Conrad's publishing career, traces their sources and surveys contemporary reception. The edition includes detailed explanatory and contextual notes, a glossary of nautical terms, maps and illustrations. A textual essay and comprehensive apparatus reveal the history of each story's composition, revision and publication. This volume will allow scholars to see these familiar stories in a fresh light, by returning to Conrad's original texts.

Book excerpt: This book is in honor of my late mother, Faiga (Phyllis) may she rest in peace who passed away on what is commonly known by the misnomer Mothers Day (May 8, 2011 or the 4th of the Hebrew month of IYAR, 5771). There are four types of people: 1. Naturally humorous 2. Naturally serious 3. Generally humorous, with some seriousness 4. Generally serious with some humor My mother was raised by a serious Polish-born father with some humor and a humorous British lady with some seriousness. She emulated the best of her parents and passed on these qualities to her sons, especially this one as is evident in the prose. We hope and pray that these poems will reflect her positive nature and inspire our dear readers. Please treat this book with respect as there are many quotations from holy writings.
