Book excerpt: This novel is about my experience of a condition called hydrocephalus. This, loosely, means there is a build-up of excess fluid on my brain that cannot be drained naturally. Over the years it has struck me how many times I have had to explain my condition. Another thing that has caught my attention is how people are looked down upon by others if they have medical issues that aren't visible so are discounted and ignored. I decided to write this book in the hopes that maybe more people can become aware of this rare condition that, in reality, could happen to anyone and any time. This book follow mine and my family's experience and journey with the day to day of this condition. I hope that this book can show you that just because you cant see something, doesn't mean its not there. Hopefully understanding this will lead to better understanding of more 'hidden conditions'.
Book Synopsis Breathing Under Water by : Richard Rohr
Download or read book Breathing Under Water written by Richard Rohr and published by Franciscan Media. This book was released on 2013-11-04 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is America's most significant and authentic contribution to the history of spirituality, says Richard Rohr. He makes a case that the Twelve Steps relate well to Christian teaching and can rescue people who are drowning in addiction and may not even realize it. To survive the tidal wave of compulsive behavior and addiction, Christians must learn to breathe under water and discover God's love and compassion. In this exploration of Twelve Step spirituality, Rohr identifies the Christian principles in the Twelve Steps, connecting The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous with the gospel. He draws on talks he has given for over twenty years to people in recovery and those who counsel and live with people with addictive behavior. Rohr offers encouragement for becoming interiorly alive and inspiration for making one's life manageable for dealing with the codependence and dysfunction (sin) rampant in our society.

Book Synopsis Essays in Psychology by : William James
Download or read book Essays in Psychology written by William James and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-nine articles, essays, and reviews in this volume, collected here for the first time, were published by William James over a long span of years, from 1878 (twelve years prior to The Principles of Psychology) to 1906. Some are theoretical; others examine specific psychological phenomena or report the results of experiments James had conducted. Written for the most part for a scholarly rather than a popular audience, they exhibit James's characteristic lucidity and persuasiveness, and they reveal the roots and development of his view on a wide range of psychological issues. As William R. Woodward notes in his Introduction, these essays "bring the reader closer to James's sources, thereby illuminating his indebtedness to tradition as well as his creative departure from it."
