When she’s given the opportunity to bring those who abducted her to justice, she’s all in. One problem. Her alien partner hates humans, and he really hates her. Too bad for him that she loves to tease the monstrous cross between a devil and an orc. He’s big, dangerous, and hits all her buttons. No problem. She can keep it professional. Right? A disgraced warrior. Havik’s arrogance lost him a mate. Determined to regain his honor and complete this mission, he will not allow the human female to distract him. He can’t trust a liar and a thief. And he definitely shouldn’t be kissing one. This books contains one grumpy alien, a woman who won't loose hope, villains getting their just desserts, an HEA, no cheating, and no cliffhangers. While Havik can be read on it's own, the book is best enjoyed after Jaxar.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five decades of independence have produced dramatic increases in womens’ educational achievements in India; but education for girls beyond a certain level is still perceived as socially risky. Based on ethnographic data and historical documents, this book explores the origins of that paradox. Contributors probe the complex relationships between traditional Indian social institutions the joint family, arranged marriage, dowry, and purdah, or sexual segregation and girls schooling. They find that a patrifocal family structure and ideology are often at the root of different family approaches to educating sons and daughters, and that concern for marriageability still plays a central role in womens’ educational choices and outcomes.

Book excerpt: Laiel Brockade is a broodling of Hell, one of the children of the Devil, and a master of black magic. Hearing rumors of the discovery of the scroll of Abaddon, the Destroying Angel, a magical artifact whose purpose is to summon said bringer of the biblical Apocalypse to the earth, Laiel sets out to gain possession of it. He is soon joined by allies such as a gang of ruthless biker outlaws and a vampire, and with enemies arrayed against him at every turn such as witches, cultists, warlocks, and monsters of every stripe, as well as his own siblings, among them the Antichrist, himself. Determined to gain control of the scroll, and increasingly desperate, the various forces involved use every power of magic at their disposal to defeat and destroy one another. Treachery, deception, and murder abound as every villain and monster (un)imaginable arise from behind every shadow and out from under every bed to fight for dominance. As the body count rises, and the destruction mounts to epic proportions, the question becomes: How many battles can be fought, how many must die, and how much of the earth must lie in ruins before we acknowledge that a magical war has begun?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three stories of a world shared by resurrected humans from all times and places—plus ten more tales by the Hugo Award–winning author of the World of Tiers series. On author Philip José Farmer’s Riverworld, humans from every era and culture have been simultaneously resurrected. Ancient Hebrews, medieval warriors, Spanish Inquisitors, and modern Americans intermingle in this strange new environment, but many still cling to old prejudices. Tom Mix, a silent-film star originally from early-twentieth-century Earth, is journeying among the vast population along the millions of miles of the River, in search of familiar faces from his own time. He’s been traveling the River for five years and believes people are starting to change. But when he’s entangled in a brutal clash between states, he discovers that some are slow to let go of the ideas that ruled them on Earth. This volume includes the novelette “Riverworld,” along with two additional Riverworld tales and ten other short stories, all strange, clever, and profound. Farmer’s explorations of the wonderful and bizarre—from a portrayal of Jesus and Satan as cowpokes to a reimagining of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan in the style of William Burroughs—plunge the reader into “one of the most imaginative worlds in science fiction” (Booklist). This ebook includes“Riverworld,” “J. C. on the Dude Ranch,” “The Volcano,” “The Henry Miller Dawn Patrol,” “The Problem of Sore Bridge—Among Others,” “Brass and Gold (or Horse and Zeppelin in Beverly Hills),” “The Jungle Rot Kid on the Nod,” “The Voice of the Sonar in My Vermiform Appendix,” “Monolog,” “The Leaser of Two Evils,” “The Phantom of the Sewers,” “Up the Bright River,” “Crossing the Dark River,” and Philip JosFarmer’s article on the making of Riverworld, “The Source of the River.”

It is now one of the rarest cetaceans and is currently considered an endangered species. During August and September whales are present in areas of offshore oil exploration activity in the southeast Beaufort Sea. Aerial systematic and photogrammetric surveys were conducted in the southeast Beaufort Sea during August and September 1986, to investigate the distribution, relative abundance, and age segregation of the whales in relation to petroleum activites in the region. Two systematic surveys of the study area were completed from August 25-September 1 and September 7-14. Photogrammetric surveys of portions of the study area were conducted from August 25-September 1. Bowhead sightings recorded by researchers and by industry personnel during 1986 were also examined.

Book excerpt: This book depicts one South Indian village during the fifty-year period when women’s education became a possibility—and then a reality. Despite illiteracy, religious ritual marking them as inferior, and pre-pubertal marriages, the daughters and granddaughters of the silent, passive women of the 1960s have morphed into assertive, self-confident millennial women. Helen E. Ullrich considers the following questions: can education alter the perception of women as inferior and forever childlike? What happens when women refuse the mantle of socialized passivity? Throughout The Women of Totagadde, Helen Ullrich pushes us to consider how women’s lives and society at large have been altered through education.
