Book excerpt: The post-apocalypse zombie trilogy continues with a thriller that’s “rich with character and eerie with the kind of scares that get under your skin” (Jay Bonansinga, New York Times–bestselling author). Having barely escaped the clutches of the undead, the survivors of The Breadwinner are headed into the unknown to continue their search for solace in the post-apocalyptic landscape. Once a paradise for the living, the city of Haven is now crawling with flesh hungry creatures—yet it could be their only hope. Veronica, Samson, and the others take a chance on the promises of Gary, a solitary survivor who may be hiding sinister motives behind his hospitality. Meanwhile, two ordinary women are faced with extraordinary horrors and obstacles as they struggle to make it to safety. If they don’t succeed, they’ll each become just another undead face in the hordes roaming the streets of Haven. When tragedy strikes, worlds collide, and the survivors must band together against their common enemy. But remember, who you were does not determine what you will become in the face of a catastrophe. The dead may no longer be their greatest threat. Welcome home. Haven is hell. “The underlying theme that living humans are by far the most dangerous creatures in the animal kingdom resonates throughout the entire novel, culminating itself in an explosive ending that will undoubtedly leave Breadwinner fans eager for the final book in the trilogy, All Good Things.” —Kurt Schuett, author of Insurgency “In a world filled with zombie fiction, The Breadwinner Trilogy stands out from the pack, hungrily gnashing its broken teeth. For once, I urge you to let it dig right in.” —Jim Dodge, Mass Movement Magazine

Book excerpt: This extract from the Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible provides Coggin’s introduction to and concise commentary on First and Second Chronicles. The Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible presents, in nontechnical language, the best of modern scholarship on each book of the Bible, including the Apocrypha. Reader-friendly commentary complements succinct summaries of each section of the text and will be valuable to scholars, students, and general readers. Rather than attempt a verse-by-verse analysis, these volumes work from larger sense units, highlighting the place of each passage within the overarching biblical story. Commentators focus on the genre of each text—parable, prophetic oracle, legal code, and so on—interpreting within the historical and literary context. The volumes also address major issues within each biblical book—including the range of possible interpretations—and refer readers to the best resources for further discussions.

Book excerpt: The impact of The Late Great Planet Earth cannot be overstated. The New York Times called it the "no. 1 non-fiction bestseller of the decade." For Christians and non-Christians of the 1970s, Hal Lindsey's blockbuster served as a wake-up call on events soon to come and events already unfolding -- all leading up to the greatest event of all: the return of Jesus Christ. The years since have confirmed Lindsey's insights into what biblical prophecy says about the times we live in. Whether you're a church-going believer or someone who wouldn't darken the door of a Christian institution, the Bible has much to tell you about the imminent future of this planet. In the midst of an out-of-control generation, it reveals a grand design that's unfolding exactly according to plan. The rebirth of Israel. The threat of war in the Middle East. An increase in natural catastrophes. The revival of Satanism and witchcraft. These and other signs, foreseen by prophets from Moses to Jesus, portend the coming of an antichrist . . . of a war which will bring humanity to the brink of destruction . . . and of incredible deliverance for a desperate, dying planet.

Book excerpt: Imagine what you would do if The Zombie Apocalypse, a long time favorite topic of authors in the Zombie genre, finally happened? Would you be prepared at all and have a chance to survive or would you be unprepared and quickly die or become a Zombie? This book is the first of three that I plan to write for this series. It tracks the travels of myself and 3 friends as we attempt to escape the Zombie apocalypse. Our journey begins in Southern Illinois, in a town named Carbondale. We travel across the country attempting to reach Elysium, which one of the larger safe havens in the United States. Along the way we meet new friends and attempt to dispose of new enemies. The apocalypse was caused by a combination of factors. One was our government allowed people with the Nova Virus to come to our country to get help. We are still the only country that allows that. Second, a corrupt (Are there any others?) mega corporation that was given a huge government contract to perfect a vaccine to cure the Nova Virus allowed the vaccines to become contaminated. Millions of people took the vaccine and I think the reader will figure out what happened as a result of the contamination. It is very hard to keep politics out of Zombie books, so I do not try to. I express my opinions as I see things as do the other characters in the book. Please keep in mind that this book is a work of fiction. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Book excerpt: Our world faced extermination by a group of infected meteoroids from space, which carried an infection that turned ordinary people into rabid killers. This is a record of how two estranged twin brothers survived the apocalypse. One brother planned for the survival of our species and made ready for the world to come on a small island in Scotland, persevering despite having to manage the utter disbelief of the people around him. The other, having survived a harrowing cacophony of life events, learned to harness his anger and channel it to help those who survived. Together they faced the abyss shoulder to shoulder. In the words of Paul Collin: If you were given advanced warning of a global world threatening event, what would you do? I am certainly not an influential or charismatic leader. How would you begin to plan for the beginning of a world's demise from the ground up, especially when you have had no germane experience to build upon? It is brutally hard to accept that there is only you that can do something meaningful in the face of a disaster on such a scale. When you engaged your friends, they would say you were insane once they realised that you weren't playing a joke upon them. Can you take significant action based upon what is simply a dream or a premonition? It defies all logic. How do you begin to persuade people that the world as you know it is about to end and they and their families need to turn their back on their lives, their careers, their homes and to join you in a quest to build some kind of leaky ark, in which to ride out the tidal wave of an impending catastrophe? What, in a lifetime of wonderful and bittersweet experiences, would ever prepare you for events such as these? You do what you must with the time given to you. I did some terrible things that I am not proud of, under extreme duress. Does it make me a bad person, when ultimately it led to the survival of our species? An impossible conundrum that could have broken me; on my bleaker days it nearly did. One thing that I have learnt in my life, is that change can only be brought about by embracing uncertainty and finding a path to bring talented people that you trust along on the journey together with you as equals and friends. Given the deception I was forced to employ, would my friends and family ever trust me again? Would it matter, if I saved them? But then what if it all proved to be a fantasy, a hopeless pipedream
