Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When, thirty-five years ago, the Lincoln Centennial Association of Springfield, Illinois changed its character from a local organization celebrating Lincoln's birthday with an annual banquet to a research organization, the first project undertaken was an attempt to discover where Lincoln was and what he did every day of his life. In 1926 the pioneering result, a slim pamphlet, now a collector's item, Lincoln in the Year 1858, was published. Six others appeared at regular intervals (1859 and 1860 in 1927, 1854 in 1928, 1855 in 1929, 1856 and 1857 in 1930) ... The seven pamphlets, revised, were brought together in 1933 in Lincoln 1854-1861, Being the Day-by-Day Activities of Abraham Lincoln from January 1, 1854 to March 4, 1861, by Paul M. Angle, executive secretary of the Abraham Lincoln Association. The following eight years carried the chronology back to Lincoln's birth with three more volumes -- Lincoln 1847-1853 by Benjamin P. Thomas, 1936; and Lincoln 1840-1846 and Lincoln 1809-1839 by Harry E. Pratt, 1939 and 1941 -- and the series became known as one of the most useful reference works in the entire range of Lincoln scholarship. Lincoln's daily activities were chronicled by using every authentic source. In the resulting mountain of material, three sources proved most fruitful: Lincoln's writings; newspapers; and Illinois court records. The opening of the Robert Todd Lincoln Papers in July, 1947, provided much new material, and The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, in nine volumes, appearing in 1953, almost doubled the number of known compositions from Lincoln's pen. Revising and reprinting the chronology was a project often discussed by Abraham Lincoln Association officials, but never accomplished, as the undertaking would be large and expensive, particularly if carried through Lincoln's years as President. The Lincoln Sesquicentennial Commission, after considering other possibilities, recognized the revision and enlargement of Lincoln Day-by-Day as a research tool indispensable to future generations of students. It is singularly appropriate that an idea conceived by an organization formed to celebrate Lincoln's Centennial should be completed by an agency created by Congress to celebrate Lincoln's Sesquicentennial. The Abraham Lincoln Association generously transferred its copyright to the Commission"--Preface.
Download or read book Hell Hath No Fury written by Troy Taylor and published by Whitechapel Productions. This book was released on 2021-06-24 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HELL HATH NO FURY 13 SPIRITS OF THE WICKED AND THE WRONGED Rudyard Kipling once wrote that "the female of the species must be deadlier than the male." We sometimes forget this as we delve into the world of serial killers, sin, and the supernatural, but we shouldn't. Women are just as deadly -- and perhaps, as Kipling said, even deadlier - as men. From "angels of mercy" to women who kill for money, love, and revenge, the so-called "fairer sex" has claimed more than its share of victims throughout American history. There have been many women who have caused troubled ghosts to remain behind. They are serial murderers, madwomen, and vengeful lovers who still demand attention long after their bodies have been consigned to the grave. They are also lingering spirits - reminders that their lives were snuffed out as victims of murder and depravity who refuse to leave this world behind. In this terrifying book, author Troy Taylor delves into the shadowy world of wicked and wronged women, presenting thirteen stories of sinners and spirits who have left an indelible mark on the American landscapes of crime and the supernatural. They are women lost, disappeared, misguided, spurned, wicked, put-upon, vicious, neglected, misunderstood, sinister, haunted, mistreated, murdered, and ghostly - and women you will never forget. This is not a title for the faint of heart and is unlike any other book of this type that you've ever read. There are few books that have been written that will have you wondering about who you might be sleeping next to at night - this is one of them.

Book Synopsis One Afternoon at the Iroquois by : Troy Taylor

Book excerpt: ONE AFTERNOON AT THE IROQUOIS HISTORY AND HAUNTINGS OF AMERICA'S DEADLIEST THEATRE FIRE On the cold afternoon of December 30, 1903, a fire broke out in Chicago's Iroquois Theater during a sold-out performance. The theater had been advertised as "absolutely fireproof" when it had opened ahead of schedule to take advantage of holiday crowds. But the theater wasn't fireproof - it wasn't even safe. In less than 20 minutes, more than 600 people - mostly women and children - were burned, smothered, and trampled to death as the panicked audience tried to flee the theater. They soon discovered locked stairways, missing fire escapes, and jammed doors, leading to scores of deaths. In this chilling book, author Troy Taylor delves into the true story of this horrific holiday tragedy, detailing not only the disaster itself but the lives that were lost, changed, and utterly destroyed on that fateful afternoon. He takes readers inside the walls of the theater in a search for the missing and the dead and behind the doors of Chicago's City Hall, where the corruption occurred that allowed the dangerous theater to open just five weeks before the fire. Follow the victims taken to makeshift morgues in stores, restaurants, and saloons and then hunt for the lingering spirits who refuse to rest in peace after more than a century. Discover first-hand accounts of hauntings in the theater that now stands at the site, in a nearby department store, and, of course, in the narrow passage behind the theater where more than 100 people were killed - a passage that the press in 1903 dubbed "Death Alley." One Afternoon at the Iroquois is the perfect book for a cold winter's night during the holiday season -- when what should have been the perfect time of year turned into a nightmare.
