The second section examines fundamental or basic elements of Christian ethics and covers different methods, approaches, and voices in doing Christian ethics, such as natural law, virtue ethics, conscience, responsibility, narrative, worship, and engagement with other religions. The third section addresses current moral issues in politics, medicine, economics, ecology, criminal justice and other related spheres from the perspective of Christian ethics, including war, genetics, neuroethics, end-of-life decisions, marriage, family, work, sexuality, nonhuman animals, migration, aging, policing, incarceration, capital punishment, and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition is once again a new, thoroughly revised version of Christian Ethics II. In some portions the subject matter has been reorganized more organically, and recent theological developments and documents of the magisterium have been integrated. New themes have been added, others further developed, such as deepening the concept and content of mission, as well as ecumenical participation. Also, questions in bioethics have been supplemented, such as the duty to preserve life, topics of prenatal medicine, reproductive and therapeutic cloning, genetic alteration, and euthanasia. Other issues raised concern the discrimination against women, civil marriage of homosexuals, compassion in prison care, the right of asylum, humanitarian interventions, the fostering of peace after conflicts, empowerment of the poor in development projects, and the treatment of animals. The author hopes that this new edition will be a contribution to the ongoing aggiornamento of moral theology and that it will continue to meet the expectations of its readers.

Book Synopsis Biblical Ethics and Social Change by : Stephen Mott Professor Emeritus of Social Ethics Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Download or read book Biblical Ethics and Social Change written by Stephen Mott Professor Emeritus of Social Ethics Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This scholarly synthesis of biblical studies and Christian social ethics is designed to provide a biblical argument for intentional institutional change on behalf of social justice. Stephen Charles Mott provides a biblical and ethical guide on ways to implement that change. The first part of the book, providing the biblical theology of intentional social change, deals with the central concepts in biblical and theological ethics: grace, evil, love, justice, and the Reign of God. Christian social change must be rooted not only in justice, but in the grace received through the death and resurrection of Christ. The second part evaluates ethical and theological methods for carrying out that intentional social change. It offers a study of evangelism, counter community, civil disobedience, armed revolution, and political reform. It shows the contribution of each as well as the strong limitations of each used in isolation. A recurring theme of the book is the scriptural insistence on the priority of justice as taking upon oneself the cause of the oppressed. Justice is understood on bringing back into the community those who are near to falling out of it. Political authority has a vital role in social change for justice. It is essential that a Christian use all available and legitimate means of meeting basic needs by providing for all what is essential for inclusion in society. In this revised edition, Mott updates the contemporary illustrations and includes his own further reflections in the last thirty years on this topic.

Download or read book A Textbook of Christian Ethics, 3rd Edition written by Robin Gill and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2006-09-14 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robin Gill's Textbook of Christian Ethics has been a popular course book with students and lecturers for over 20 years. Now in its third edition this classic textbook has been completely revised to bring it up to date with recent developments in the field of Christian Ethics. All the popular features of the previous editions have been retained in this new edition. The book's main strength has always been its layout and structure. Integrating primary texts with explanatory material from the author, the book provides the student with a reader and textbook combined. The new edition focuses more strongly on current debates in all sections and expands on a variety of topics, with contributions on natural law approaches, virtue ethics in a pluralistic/postmodern world, the influential notion of the 'common good', just war theory, genetics and biotechnology, euthanasia and global justice, and sex and gender issues. Important modern contributions to Christian ethics are set out alongside classical texts from Augustine, Aquinas and Luther. The modern writers range from thinkers such as Niebuhr, Barth and Bonhoeffer to recent liberation and Third World theologians. Each series of texts is systematically analysed. The differing ethical positions and arguments are examined together with the social and historical factors which shaped them.
