Book Synopsis Impact of Timber Production and Transport Costs on Stand Management by : Chris B. LeDoux
Download or read book Impact of Timber Production and Transport Costs on Stand Management written by Chris B. LeDoux and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Decisions to manage immature eastern hardwood stands on steep terrain must be based on an understanding of the impact of timber production costs on optimal rotation length and present net worth. Planners and managers can make improved decisions by knowing how the interaction of timber production and transportation costs affect individual stand management. Simulations with a complete systems model indicate that managers and planners must consider cable logging technology, transportation network standards, and transport vehicles. S3.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long-term recreation planning requires an understanding of recreation participation patterns. This study examined Vermonters' participation in 27 leisure activities from three domains (outdoor, resource based, and indoor) to see how such participation differed in each domain. Indoor activities were the most popular, followed by resource-based activities and general outdoor activities. Overall participation declined with age, though this effect was mitigated somewhat for older parents. Other socioeconomic and demographic variables had limited effects on participation.

In two cutting treatments, 20 and 34 crop trees were released per acre at a total cost of $35 and $42, respectively. Both treatments yielded commercial volumes of cut material. Total mean merchantable volume (>5.0 inches d.b.h.) in cut trees was 693 cubic feet/acre, with approximately 2,400 board feet/acre in sawtimber (2 11.0 inches d.b.h.). On the basis of early crop-tree stem response, the released trees are growing 0.16 inch/year compared with 0.13 inch/year for the unreleased trees. S3.
