Download or read book Growing Up written by Robby Gallaty and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are serious about being a disciple of Jesus Christ—really, truly serious—a discipleship group can help you achieve that goal. Jesus established this model for us by forming and leading the first discipleship group—and it worked. The men who emerged from that group took the gospel to the world and ultimately laid down their lives for Christ. Discipleship groups can create an atmosphere for fellowship, encouragement, and accountability—building an environment where God can work. In Growing Up: How to Be a Disciple Who Makes Disciples, Robby Gallaty presents a practical, easy-to-implement system for growing in one's faith. This guide offers a manual for making disciples, addressing the what, why, where, and how of discipleship. D-Groups, as Gallaty calls them, can teach you and others how to grow your relationship with God, how to defend your faith, and how to guide others in their relationships with God. Growing Up provides you with an interactive manual and resource for creating and working with discipleship groups, allowing you to gain positive information both for yourself and for others as you learn how to help others become better disciples for Christ.

Download or read book Growing (Up) at 37 written by Jerry Rubin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-03-03 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jerry Rubin, co-founder of the Yippie movement and a member of the Chicago Seven, traces his personal odyssey from radical activist of the 60’s to a practitioner in the growth potential movements of the 70’s—'Working to change in me the things I opposed externally in the streets.' Finding himself categorized by the press as ‘erstwhile’ and ‘aging’ at thirty-four and oppressed by his own lack of inner peace, Jerry Rubin turned his energy inward, seeking a self redefinition through various forms of New Consciousness. Growing (Up) at Thirty-Seven is a very personal and candid account of his experiences with est, rolfing, acupuncture and other forms of therapy—a unique journey to self awareness in which he tells of the person he was and the person he has become; how the originator of the slogan ‘Kill Your Parents!’ finally learned to love his own parents; and how his new personal philosophy relates to his political views. This is a sensitive psychological self-evaluation—a male confessional that lays bare Jerry Rubin’s struggle to find himself as a man in the aftermath of the aborted Youth Revolution.

Book Synopsis White Kids by : Margaret A. Hagerman
Download or read book White Kids written by Margaret A. Hagerman and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-02-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner, 2019 William J. Goode Book Award, given by the Family Section of the American Sociological Association Finalist, 2019 C. Wright Mills Award, given by the Society for the Study of Social Problems Riveting stories of how affluent, white children learn about race American kids are living in a world of ongoing public debates about race, daily displays of racial injustice, and for some, an increased awareness surrounding diversity and inclusion. In this heated context, sociologist Margaret A. Hagerman zeroes in on affluent, white kids to observe how they make sense of privilege, unequal educational opportunities, and police violence. In fascinating detail, Hagerman considers the role that they and their families play in the reproduction of racism and racial inequality in America. White Kids, based on two years of research involving in-depth interviews with white kids and their families, is a clear-eyed and sometimes shocking account of how white kids learn about race. In doing so, this book explores questions such as, “How do white kids learn about race when they grow up in families that do not talk openly about race or acknowledge its impact?” and “What about children growing up in families with parents who consider themselves to be ‘anti-racist’?” Featuring the actual voices of young, affluent white kids and what they think about race, racism, inequality, and privilege, White Kids illuminates how white racial socialization is much more dynamic, complex, and varied than previously recognized. It is a process that stretches beyond white parents’ explicit conversations with their white children and includes not only the choices parents make about neighborhoods, schools, peer groups, extracurricular activities, and media, but also the choices made by the kids themselves. By interviewing kids who are growing up in different racial contexts—from racially segregated to meaningfully integrated and from politically progressive to conservative—this important book documents key differences in the outcomes of white racial socialization across families. And by observing families in their everyday lives, this book explores the extent to which white families, even those with anti-racist intentions, reproduce and reinforce the forms of inequality they say they reject.
