Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentials of ABO-Rh Grouping and Compatibility Testing: Theoretical Aspects and Practical Application focuses on overall safety in blood transfusion, including accurate ABO and Rh-D grouping of both patient and donor. The book first elaborates on the ABO blood group system and the Rh blood group system and hemolytic disease of the newborn. Discussions focus on the Rh-D antigen, Rh genotyping, Rh testing of blood donors and recipients of blood, antenatal and postnatal serology in cases other than Rh and ABO hemolytic disease, selection and preparation of Rh anti-D grouping reagent, dangerous group O donor blood, alternative sources of anti-A and anti-B blood grouping reagent, and development of the A and B red cell antigens. The manuscript then takes a look at compatibility testing (crossmatching) and transfusion reaction investigations, as well as compatibility testing and preparation of blood for patients with antibodies to serum proteins; compatibility testing of patients with known irregular antibodies; non-urgent compatibility testing of blood; and compatibility testing for patients requiring platelets. The publication takes a look at practical procedures, including grades of agglutination, control of anti-human globulin serum, preparation of low ionic strength saline, and preparation of platelet concentrates. The text is a valuable source of information for researchers interested in ABO-Rh grouping and compatibility testing.

Book excerpt: The web is undergoing a fundamental change. It is moving away from its current structure of documents and pages linked together, and towards a new structure that is built around people. This is a profound change that will affect how we create business strategy, design, marketing, and advertising. The reason for this shift is simple. For tens of thousands of years we’ve been social animals. The web, which is only 20 years old, is simply catching up with offline life. From travel to news to commerce, smart businesses are reorienting their efforts around people – around the social behavior of their customers and potential customers. In order to be successful, businesses will need to understand how people are connected, how their social network influences them, how the people closest to them influence them the most, and how it’s more important for marketers to focus on small, connected groups of friends rather than looking for overly influential individuals. This book pulls together the latest research from leading universities and technology companies to describe how people are connected, and how ideas and brand messages spread through social networks. It shows readers how to rebuild their business around social behavior, and create products that people tell their friends about.

Like many educators in intermediate classrooms across the country, you may be using guided reading principles to teach reading. Whether you’re following targeted reading levels or sticking with your school’s established routines, chances are that guided reading has become synonymous with small group reading for you and your students. But . . . are your students getting the most out of small groups? Are readers of all ability levels experiencing the dynamic learning that can occur in small groups? Do you feel confident that the way you’re grouping kids is based on their wants and needs? Intermediate grade readers don’t need to be guided as much as they need to be engaged—and authors Julie Wright and Barry Hoonan have solutions for doing just that using small groups. What Are You Grouping For? offers the practical tools, classroom examples, and actionable steps essential for starting, sustaining, and mastering the management of small groups. This book explains the five teacher moves that work together to support students’ reading independence through small group learning—kidwatching, pivoting, assessing, curating, and planning—and provides examples to guide you and your students toward success. From must-have beginning-of-the-year strategies to step-by-step advice for implementation, this guide breaks down the processes that support small groups and help create effective instructional reading programs. Based on more than 45 years of combined experience in the classroom, this resource will empower you with tools to ensure that your readers are doing the reading, thinking, and doing—not you.

This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixteen-volume Handbook of Middle American Indians, completed in 1976, has been acclaimed the world over as the single most valuable resource ever produced for those involved in the study of Mesoamerica. When it was determined in 1978 that the Handbook should be updated periodically, Victoria Reifler Bricker, well-known cultural anthropologist, was elected to be general editor. This third volume of the Supplement is devoted to the aboriginal literatures of Mesoamerica, a topic receiving little attention in the original Handbook. According to the general editor, "This volume does more than supplement and update the coverage of Middle American Indian literatures in the Handbook. It breaks new ground by defining the parameters of a new interdisciplinary field in Middle American Indian studies." The aim of the present volume is to consider literature from five Middle American Indian languages: Nahuatl, Yucatecan Maya, Quiche, Tzotzil, and Chorti. The first three literatures are well documented for both the Classical and Modern variants of their languages and are obvious candidates for inclusion in this volume. The literatures of Tzotzil and Chorti, on the other hand, are oral, and heretofore little has been written of their genres and styles. Taken together, these essays represent a substantial contribution to the Handbook series, with the volume editor's introduction placing in geographic perspective the five literatures chosen as representative of the Middle American literary tradition.

With those few words in August 1973, Sarah Chambers, her husband Richard, and their good friends Alice and Dick started a journey that would take them far beyond anything they could possibly imagine. They would explore the unseen realm of the spiritual world with their teacher "Michael." Along with good friend Eugene Trout, they would become the creators of a new spiritual teaching - based in love - that is used to help people become more of who they really are. The group kept transcripts of their meetings and those transcripts were quietly copied and passed around to their friends, then copied and passed on to their friends. Volume 1 contains the transcripts themselves. Volume 2 contains the Charts, Cartoons, Drawings and Compilations by various members of the group, as well as background on the members of the group. Volume 3 contains additional transcripts from 1978-1985, and updates to Volume 1.
