It explains everything.” —Jon Scieszka, author of Time Warp Trio and The Stinky Cheese Man Jimmy Murphy’s sixth grade teacher, Sister Angelica Rose, is out to get him. She humiliates him in class and punishes him when he hasn’t done anything wrong. She even forces him to perform onstage with second graders, wearing a giant green banana costume. A classic underachiever with a talent for trouble, Jimmy wants revenge, and with his friends he plans a prank that will embarrass Sister Angelica in front of the whole school. What could possibly go wrong? "This is a light and funny coming of age story. Even students who do not attend parochial school can identify with Jimmy and the struggles that he and his friends go through. The characters are all dynamic and the reader will want to know more about them all. This is a quick and enjoyable read that any upper elementary student will enjoy." —School Library Connection A Junior Literary Guild Selection

Book excerpt: Bill Atkinson was the front rider on a toboggan racing down a snow-covered hill in New York state. Four young men were enjoying an exhilarating ride in the crisp air when, suddenly, they careened into a tree¿the devastating collision broke Bill¿s neck. Coming out of a coma, Bill found himself in a hospital bed, unable to feel his body. Trapped, helpless and totally dependent on friends and family, he was to begin a 40-year saga that would include his becoming the first quadriplegic ordained as a priest in the 2000-year history of the Catholic Church. He would go on to teach for many years at Monsignor Bonner High School in Upper Darby, PA¿in the suburbs of Philadelphia¿and provide counsel and inspiration to thousands of students...and he does so again in this wonderful book. Some had thought that Bill might become an athlete and that his brother, Al, might one day join the priesthood. A few years later, as Bill watched from his wheelchair, Al Atkinson, a superb linebacker, walked off the field of Super Bowl III having helped the New York Jets beat the mighty Baltimore Colts. Steve McWilliams volunteered to help Bill Atkinson. He thought that this good deed would give him ¿cred¿ with God¿if God existed¿and Steve was also too nice a guy to say ¿No¿ when a friend asked him to help out with the care of a ¿Father Bill.¿ After 18 years of visiting and helping, two days a week, with hardly a deep word spoken between them, Steve and Bill slowly began a conversation that would change both of their lives. They broke through a wall of silence¿that lack of deep communication which typifies the relationships between so many men¿and developed a true, nurturing friendship. It began with Bill¿s sharing of his poetry and ended with Steve¿s commitment to share his conversations with and love of this remarkable and inspiring Augustinian priest. This is not just a story for Catholics, although many will find their faith strengthened by the humility and wisdom of Father Bill. Others, who have doubted and felt that churchmen have strayed from the path of Christ, will find renewed hope and belief in their fellow man¿all of us will be inspired by a man who endured and accepted crushing adversity with rare courage and who said: Love God by loving your neighbor...¿Give and Receive Love¿ is the big Christian message¿the rest is just buildings and ceremonies...Love is our pipeline to the divine and God¿s waiting for us to ¿get that¿ one of these days...and in the meantime, he¿s being very patient with us! On dealing with an awful co-worker, he advised Steve to ¿Love him no matter what he did and you¿ll find peace; that¿s God¿s way. All of your anger is just going to make you sick. Give in to God¿s love, you¿ll be surprised what appears in your life.¿ That was Father Bill: Love & Acceptance personified.

Book excerpt: Got To Have That Green Banana! is a part of The Comfort Legacies With Fay Michelle and Grandma Cleo series. The series is a collection of short stories for children and families. The stories began when Fay Michelle shared stories of her being four-years old with her grandson who was four-years old. Fay Michelle's grandson was so taken with the stories that he wanted to hear the stories over and over again. Fay Michelle decided to write the stories down for MJ who happens to be a great little reader at his age. Fay Michelle decided to publish the stories in an effort to create a memorable legacy for all of her grandchildren. The first story to be published is called, "Got To Have That Green Banana." The moral to the story is that, "one can tell a banana by it's color." The next story published in the series is called, "Singing For Prunes." Fay Michelle is left asking questions about the songs that she learned from an endearing old lady, who lived across the street from her home. She would discover the the songs would have the answers to all of her questions. The stories in the series can be read out of order. However, there will be an ending story which will tug at the audiences emotions. The book will not be published until all of the other booked have been published and promoted. Everyone shall have the opportunity to get to know both Fay Michelle and her Grandma Cleo in personal way before the series ends. Fay Michelle and her Grandma Cleo shared special moments together and were extremely close to one another. Their relationship was not only a kinship, but a friendship. They would cook, sew, talk, and enjoy one another as though they were best friends. MJ and Fay Michelle share a similar relationship as Grandma Cleo and Fay Michelle shared. Therefore, MJ is very much apart of the storytelling. He lends his voice by making contributions to the stories at the beginning and at the end of the stories. Sometimes he reminds Grandma Fay Michelle of mistakes made as a child and as an adult. He proofs illustrations and gives his thoughts. He chooses the titles of some of the books and gives many suggestions and commentary. He is a great little promoter of the books. When he finds himself on a Zoom, he is happy to share the books. COVID19 has made it very difficult to be around loved ones. However, MJ makes all the effort to share his love with everyone that he is able to communicate with. Please leave suggestions or comments about the books. Your love and support is humbly and greatly appreciated and anticipated. Keep yourselves safe and best wishes to you all. Big, Big, Hugs.Fay Michelle and MJ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part green-lifestyle guide, part popular science, How Bad Are Bananas? is the first book to provide the information we need to make carbon-savvy purchases and informed lifestyle choices and to build carbon considerations into our everyday thinking. The book puts our decisions into perspective with entries for the big things (the World Cup, volcanic eruptions, the Iraq war) as well as the small (email, ironing, a glass of beer). And it covers the range from birth (the carbon footprint of having a child) to death (the carbon impact of cremation). Packed full of surprises — a plastic bag has the smallest footprint of any item listed, while a block of cheese is bad news — the book continuously informs, delights, and engages the reader. Solidly researched and referenced, the easily digestible figures, statistics, charts, and graphs (including a section on the carbon footprint of various foods) will encourage discussion and help people to make up their own minds about their consumer choices.

Book excerpt: A hilarious, mostly-rhyming picture book about a banana and narrator who can't quite agree on what their book is about. Perfect for fans of Mo Willems' We Are in a Book and Adam Rex's Nothing Rhymes With Orange! "Mo Willems fans will give this book one, two, three, four, five stars!" --Parents "Tillotson's rib-tickling debut is not to be missed!"--Kirkus When a narrator starts filling this story with fruit, Banana can’t wait to step into the spotlight. The book is called Counting to Bananas, after all. But as more and more fruits (and non-fruits) are added to the story, Banana objects. When will it be time for bananas?! With laugh-out-loud text from debut author Carrie Tillotson and brought to life by illustrator Estrela Lourenço this is the story of a banana and narrator who have very strong opinions about what should (and should not!) be in this book. The perfect next read for fans of Jory John and Pete Oswald's The Bad Seed series, as well at Ryan T. Higgins' Hey, Bruce! Praise for Counting to Bananas: "In the tradition of Mac Barnett’s Count the Monkeys, Tillotson’s rib-tickling debut is not to be missed . . . Lourenço’s digitally created illustrations of cartoon fruit with faces and expressive animals are bright, dynamic, and foolish. Fruity fun for everyone." --Kirkus

Book excerpt: In the tradition of Pour Your Heart Into It and How Starbucks Saved My Life, a surprising and inspiring memoir from the founders of Banana Republic. With $1,500 and no business experience, Mel and Patricia Ziegler turned a wild idea into a company that would become the international retail colossus Banana Republic. Re-imagining military surplus as safari and expedition wear, the former journalist and artist created a world that captured the zeitgeist for a generation and spoke to the creativity, adventure, and independence in everyone. In a book that’s honest, funny, and charming, Mel and Patricia tell in alternating voices how they upended business conventions and survived on their wits and imagination. Many retail and fashion merchants still consider Banana Republic’s early heyday to be one of the most remarkable stories in fashion and business history. The couple detail how, as “professional amateurs,” they developed the wildly original merchandise and marketing innovations that broke all retail records and produced what has been acclaimed by industry professionals to be “the best catalogue of all time.” A love story wrapped in a business adventure, Wild Company is a soulful, inspiring tale for readers determined to create their own destiny with a passion for life and work and fun.
