Download or read book Greece in the European Union written by Dionyssis G. Dimitrakopoulos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-02-24 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributors collected here discuss the patterns of continuity and change, success and failure observed in seven policy areas - environment, social regulation, regional policy, the single market, agriculture, EMU and foreign policy - in order to investigate how policy formulated and implemented in Greece has changed as a result of EU membership; why Greek authorities have managed to implement EU policy more successfully in some policy areas than in others and whether Greek public opinion vis-à-vis the EU changed over time. This book argues that although the widely-held belief that Greece is a laggard in a number of policy areas is not inaccurate, the pattern of Greek membership of the EU is much more complex, not least because it contains success stories. It will be of interest to students and researchers of the European Union, public policy and Greek politics.

Lekakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freer Trade, Sustainability, and the Primary Production Sector in the Southern European Union is the first full-scale academic work to cap ture the primary production sector policy aspects of trade liberaliza tion and sustainability with a detailed focus on a typical southern EU country, Greece. Many efforts were pooled together in making this book. In May 1996 the Department of Economics of the University of Crete organ ized an international conference on European Agriculture in the light of the recent WTO agreement and the need for sustainable develop ment. The conference was sponsored by the European Commission (DG XII, contract no ENV4-CT-96-6514), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC, contract no L320263049), the Hellenic Ministries for Agriculture and for the Environment, and the University of Crete. While summarizing the conclusions of the conference, sev eral speakers felt that the issues relating to the Southern EU would de serve separate coverage. The conference directors judged that cover age of the issues for a single Southern EU country might have an ad vantage, regarding detail, over a cross country analysis which would certainly be welcome at a later stage. Responding to this call, the University of Crete generously reallo cated all of its infra-structural costs covered by DG XII, ESRC, and the other sponsors above, in the form of a new grant to host a follow-up conference aiming to explore the issues for Greece.

Book excerpt: First published in 1981 The European Community and its Mediterranean Enlargement examines the background to the economic developments in Greece, Spain and Portugal, their relationship with the Community and the political and economic interests at issue during negotiations. At the same time the study of enlargement provides an excellent opportunity for a critical appraisal of existing Community policies (especially those affecting industry and agriculture) and a discussion of likely future developments and pressures for change within the context of the ‘Community of Twelve’. Loukas Tsoukalis combines a thorough familiarity with Community affairs with a good knowledge of Southern Europe and the ability to work in several European languages. This book crosses many disciplinary boundaries and is a must read for scholars and researchers of European politics, European Union, international relations and European history.

The second part deals with EC issues, particularly focusing on the economic and spatial impact of European integration. Book Synopsis The European Integration, Vol. 1 by : Panagiotis Liargovas
Download or read book The European Integration, Vol. 1 written by Panagiotis Liargovas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume textbook teaches about the uniqueness and the difficulty of the European unification project. It describes, as clearly as possible, what Robert Schuman declared in 1950, that "... Europe will not be made all at once...". Navigating the nexus of four academic fields - political science, institutional analysis, economics, and history - the book serves as a reference work for accurate, exhaustive, and well-researched information on the creation and functioning of the European Union. Supported by numerous photographs, diagrams, maps, and sources, volume 1 sets out in a concise and readable way the European historical origins, the important steps in the creation of the European Union, and the treaties and historical events that have marked its course so far. Providing a comprehensive picture of the unification process and the functioning of this sui generis edifice of a united Europe, the book will serve as an essential textbook for undergraduate and graduate students studying the subject of European integration, as well as a useful resource for a broader audience interested in the European integration process.
