Book Synopsis Introduction to Psychopathology by : Alessandra Lemma
Download or read book Introduction to Psychopathology written by Alessandra Lemma and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1996-05-24 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was most impressed by the author′s thoroughness in writing this book. She seems to leave no stone uncovered... [this is] a work which should become a necessity for all counsellors, counselling psychologists, psychiatric nurses and psychotherapists... This is a book to which I will make reference time and time again, and one which will occupy a prominent place in my library′ - Counselling, The Journal of the British Association for Counselling `An invaluable handbook for students of psychotherapy and a good reference for established therapists... I recommend that all therapists have a copy of this book on their shelf′ - Psychology, Health & Medicine Assessment and referral skills are essential for counsellors and psychotherapists. Practitioners need to have an understanding of the clinical manifestations of severe emotional distress. They must, for example, be able to recognize when clients are a suicide risk or when they are suffering from a psychotic episode. This lively textbook provides a clear overview of the issues involved in our understanding of psychopathology and offers guidelines on appropriate interventions. Alessandra Lemma explores a range of key topics, covering how psychiatric diagnoses and classifications are arrived at, and the issues that can arise when working in conjunction with other mental health practitioners, such as psychiatrists. She addresses the needs of practitioners in relation to some of the more common forms of mental distress - depression, anxiety and eating problems - as well as some of the more controversial diagnoses, such as schizophrenia and `borderline personality disorder′. The book concludes with a discussion of alternatives to mainstream approaches, including those which seek to deconstruct the concept of psychopathology. Introduction to Psychopathology offers a framework for assessing clients which incorporates a broad range of models and approaches, and which takes into account psychological, social and biological factors. It will be an invaluable resource for students of counselling, counselling psychology, psychotherapy and clinical psychology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architecture Design for Soft Errors provides a comprehensive description of the architectural techniques to tackle the soft error problem. It covers the new methodologies for quantitative analysis of soft errors as well as novel, cost-effective architectural techniques to mitigate them. To provide readers with a better grasp of the broader problem definition and solution space, this book also delves into the physics of soft errors and reviews current circuit and software mitigation techniques. There are a number of different ways this book can be read or used in a course: as a complete course on architecture design for soft errors covering the entire book; a short course on architecture design for soft errors; and as a reference book on classical fault-tolerant machines. This book is recommended for practitioners in semi-conductor industry, researchers and developers in computer architecture, advanced graduate seminar courses on soft errors, and (iv) as a reference book for undergraduate courses in computer architecture. - Helps readers build-in fault tolerance to the billions of microchips produced each year, all of which are subject to soft errors - Shows readers how to quantify their soft error reliability - Provides state-of-the-art techniques to protect against soft errors

Book Synopsis Trouble in Paradox by : A.P. Eberhart
Download or read book Trouble in Paradox written by A.P. Eberhart and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trouble in Paradox is the shocking and poetic confession of a young man tiptoeing along the elastic borders of sanity, the shadow of suicide chasing his every thought. Fed up with the tragic chaos of the civilized world, I packed my dog, the necessary survival supplies, a small arsenal of guns, and enough booze to stay drunk for a month, and escaped to the wild and beautiful Paradox Valley in western Colorado. The book that has emerged from this sojourn is a gritty and irreverent comedy with tragic undertones, full of paradoxes and philosophical horseplay, a healthy dose of humor and polemic, history, politics and social critique, all wrapped up in a pretty package of high-octane wilderness adventure. After six weeks alone in the desert, heartsick and angry but still laughing, I fled that lunatic wilderness homeward to begin writing.
Book Synopsis World of Trouble by : Richard Godbeer
Download or read book World of Trouble written by Richard Godbeer and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2019-11-26 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intimate account of the American Revolution as seen through the eyes of a Quaker pacifist couple living in Philadelphia Historian Richard Godbeer presents a richly layered and intimate account of the American Revolution as experienced by a Philadelphia Quaker couple, Elizabeth Drinker and the merchant Henry Drinker, who barely survived the unique perils that Quakers faced during that conflict. Spanning a half-century before, during, and after the war, this gripping narrative illuminates the Revolution's darker side as patriots vilified, threatened, and in some cases killed pacifist Quakers as alleged enemies of the revolutionary cause. Amid chaos and danger, the Drinkers tried as best they could to keep their family and faith intact. Through one couple's story, Godbeer opens a window on a uniquely turbulent period of American history, uncovers the domestic, social, and religious lives of Quakers in the late eighteenth century, and situates their experience in the context of transatlantic culture and trade. A master storyteller takes his readers on a moving journey they will never forget.

Book Synopsis Cyclostationarity: Theory and Methods by : Fakher Chaari
Download or read book Cyclostationarity: Theory and Methods written by Fakher Chaari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-16 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade the research in signal analysis was dominated by models that encompass nonstationarity as an important feature. This book presents the results of a workshop held in Grodek—Poland in February 2013 which was dedicated to the investigation of cyclostationary signals. Its main objective is to highlight the strong interactions between theory and applications of cyclostationary signals with the use of modern statistical tools. An important application of cyclostationary signals is the analysis of mechanical signals generated by a vibrating mechanism. Cyclostationary models are very important to perform basic operations on signals in both time and frequency domains. One of the fundamental problems in diagnosis of rotating machine is the identification of significant modulating frequencies that contribute to the cyclostationary nature of the signals. The book shows that there are modern tools available for analyzing cyclostationary signals without the assumption of gaussianity. Those methods are based on the ideas of bootstrap, subsampling and Fraction-of-time (FOT) models. The book is organised in two parts. The first part will be dedicated to pure theory on cyclostationarity. Applications are presented in the second part including several mechanical systems such as bearings, gears, with or without damages.
