Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel is based on fact. Though it is based on fact, this novel uses fictional events, places and characters. Parts of the novel are humorous, while other parts are exciting and interesting. I am attempting to follow the lives of my father’s parents, John and Elizabeth Taylor, from the time of the Civil War, their marriage, their lives and adventures in different states, their travels across the country by wagon train and their lives in Tacoma, Washington. My dear aunt told me stories many years ago. Some I remember and some I remember only parts of. She was a very young girl at the time and experienced many of these things. I learned many things by asking questions. When relatives and people learned that I was interested in writing a book of this nature, they came forward with letters and stories of their own that I was able to use. Grandpa John was a tailor and made his living this way. Later in years he became fascinated with the railroads and became an engineer. I found this book to be fascinating to write and wishing that I could have been there and lived in such times before the machine revolution changed the world.

The stories were just to good to keep inside the family unit and the book(s) were soon passed around to friends. Shortly, strangers were calling for copies, many demanding that the book be published, so that they too might own a copy. Comments from some delighted readers "I couldn't put the book down. My wife couldn't understand why I wouldn't come to bed. She read the book and said that she absolutely understands why. She remarked that she laughed at the punch lines and eagerly anticipated the next scrape that Grandpa Ray might get into." "Grandpa Ray is a master storyteller!" "Pacing and cadence are effectively employed to make readers laugh at the punch lines." "Well-written, fun and easy-to-read, Grandp's memoir brims with love, humor and warmth. He masterfully employs the techniques of anecdotes to create an invaluable legacy for his children." "Grandpa Ray fill his personal memoir with amusing, instructive, and loving anecdotes as a legacy for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren."

Book excerpt: After facing the realization I was going to become a grandfather to a great little boy, it seemed important to tell him something about his family history that occurred before he was born. With as busy as he is now in college, it may be awhile before he slows down long enough to inquire.I simply started at the beginning with the first memory I ever had, and chronicled many of the meaningful things in my life as I remembered them. I documented grade school, high school, and college experiences. I then moved on to my time in the military and in the working world, all the while starting a family with a special woman, Trudy, my wife of nearly forty-seven years. The highlights in my life get a treatment, including my travels and the events that affected me deeply enough to shape my thinking, because I also share my many opinions. Here then is Grandpa’s Backstory: Because Somebody Might Need to Know!

Book excerpt: I would like to celebrate the two periods of our lives in which we are most vulnerable: childhood and old age: the first, rich of curiosity and hope; and the second, rich in experience and wisdom. I would like to plead from the civilized world more consideration and more patience toward our children and our seniors. And most of all, we should demand from our legislators more severe and public punishment for those who abuse them psychologically and physically in schools, churches, and nursing homes. I would cut the hand that hits a child or an elderly person. We should, on the contrary, find ways to improve conditions of their arrival in this world and the season of their farewell. A society is judged by what it does for its kids, its grandparents, and its prisoners.

Book excerpt: During a time long ago, Emily and her brother, Jacob, live a simple life with their parents in a Christian home complete with a big cook stove and where every Monday is wash day. Even better yet, they live near their grandparents. When Emily and Jacob are not helping their father in the fields, they love setting off down the well-worn path to visit their grandpa-pa and Grandma Allie. Emily and Jacob love the entertaining stories their grandfather tells them about his youth. The children are particularly fond of one of the stories he tells more than others—the tale about the Haydoodle Man. While they wonder aloud if their grandpa-pa is really the old-timer, their grandfather is determined not to respond to their never-ending questions. But when a stray dog puts their family in a terrible dilemma, will they finally learn their grandpa-pa’s secret? In this historical juvenile novel, two siblings entertained by their grandpa-pa’s fascinating tales of days gone-by wonder if he is harboring a secret about his true identity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grandpa’s Soup tells a story for the pleasure, information, and entertainment of the reader. It is a narrative of the author’s memories of growing up in a tiny island village in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria in Africa. It was inspired by memories of his grandpa, who passed away while he was still very much in the formative years of his life. They are memories that he considers worth sharing because of the lasting impact they have had on his adult life. The author hopes that the book affords the reader a peek into Kalabari-Ijaw ethnography and culture while not losing its very essence, which is motivational—a motivation engendered by the seemingly innocuous acts of a grandfather that roundly impacted the life of his grandson. Also, he attempted to present the book in a simple prose format for easy readability by a wide range of audiences across cultures and demographics.
