Book Synopsis Polysaccharide Based Graft Copolymers by : Susheel Kalia
Download or read book Polysaccharide Based Graft Copolymers written by Susheel Kalia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-23 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned experts give all essential aspects of the techniques and applications of graft copolymers based on polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are the most abundant natural organic materials and polysaccharide based graft copolymers are of great importance and widely used in various fields. Natural polysaccharides have recently received more attention due to their advantages over synthetic polymers by being non-toxic, biodegradable and available at low cost. Modification of polysaccharides through graft copolymerization improves the properties of polysaccharides. Grafting is known to improve the characteristic properties of the backbones. Such properties include water repellency, thermal stability, flame resistance, dye-ability and resistance towards acid-base attack and abrasion. Polysaccharides and their graft copolymers find extensive applications in diversified fields. Applications of modified polysaccharides include drug delivery devices, controlled release of fungicides, selective water absorption from oil-water emulsions, purification of water etc.
Download or read book Organic Polymers written by Arpit Sand and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Organic Polymers, covers aspects that are of immediate concern to a new entrant to the field of polymers. Taken as a whole, these eight chapters aim to help the readers easily assimilate other specialized and exhaustive treatises on the subject. Topics dealing with the chemistry and technology of polymers are presented in a careful and logical manner so as to provide an easy and enjoyable read. Several examples and analogies are included so to make the main concepts easy to follow and tables and figures are included so that the book can serve, to a limited extent, as a hand book dealing with polysaccharides with different parameters. This book is meant for students studying polysaccharides and those working on graft copolymers and other allied polymer industries but without a formal educational background in organic polymers.

Book Synopsis Grafting/Characterization Techniques/Kinetic Modeling by :
Download or read book Grafting/Characterization Techniques/Kinetic Modeling written by and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-10-13 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the untreated surfaces of polymers used in industry are not hydrophilic but hydrophobic. It is, therefore, difficult to bond these nonpolar polymer sur faces directly to other substances like adhesives, printing inks, and paints because they generally consist of polar compounds. On the other hand, polymer surfaces generally adsorb proteins when brought into direct contact with a bio logical system, resulting in cell attachment or platelet aggregation. The protein adsorption and attachment of biological components trigger a subsequent series of mostly adverse biological reactions toward the polymeric materials. Therefore, the technologies for surface modification of polymers or regulation of the polymer surface interaction with other substances have been of prime importance in polymer applications from the advent of polymer industries. Some of the technologies have been directed to introduction of new function alities onto polymer surfaces. The new functionalities introduced include improved surface hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity, bio compatibility, conductivi ty, anti-fogging, anti-fouling, grazing, surface hardness, surface roughness, adhesion, lubrication, and antistatic property. Theoretically, there is a large dif ference in properties between the surface and the bulk of a material and only the outermost surface is enough to be taken into consideration when the sur face properties are concerned. However, this is not the case for polymer surfaces, as the physical structure of the outermost polymer surface is generally not fixed but continuously changing with time due to the microscopic Brownian motion of polymer segments.

Thirty-seven lectures were given by 36 speakers in all of the above areas.
Book Synopsis The Chemistry and Technology of Cellulosic Copolymers by : A. Hebeish
Download or read book The Chemistry and Technology of Cellulosic Copolymers written by A. Hebeish and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many excellent volumes have been written on the chemistry of cellulose and its derivatives. Judging by the number of conferences which have been assembled to deal with the topic, cellulose and its derivatives continue to arouse great scientific interest. Matching this interest has been the development in copolymer science and technology. In both instances the driving force has been the search for products having useful, new or interesting properties. It appeared inevitable that these two concepts would be brought together at some time in the research and development of cellulosic copolymers. That time has arrived. In assembling this text our aim was to present an informative account of the chemistry and technology of cellulosic copolymers. As such, we intended that the contents be of interest to all those concerned with the production and use of cellulosic products whether in academic or industrial circles. Sections of the text should be of value in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, provided the student is given guidance in following the text. The volume is divided into eight chapters, each dealing with factors which are relevant to an under standing of cellulosic copolymers. Each chapter carries its own bibliography and is reasonably self-contained.
