Book excerpt: Interrupted follows the author’s messy journey through life and church and into living on mission. Snatching Jen from the grip of her consumer life, God began asking her questions like, “What is really the point of My Church? What have I really asked of you?” She was far too busy doing church than being church, even as a pastor’s wife, an author of five Christian books, and a committed believer for 26 years. She discovered she had missed the point. Christ brought Jen and her family to a place of living on mission by asking them tough questions, leading them through Scripture, and walking together with them on the path. Interrupted invites readers to take a similar journey.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace thinks everything about her life is wrong. When the Wind makes a dramatic entry into her life, it forces Grace to question her sense of reality. Despite her initial reluctance, Grace and the Wind gradually develop an intense relationship through a series of extraordinary conversations. The Wind teaches Grace to perceive life through the wisdom conveyed in nature’s rhythms–circadian cycles, tidal and lunar sequences and the movements of the seasons–so that nature’s intelligence becomes her intelligence. Grace struggles with the teachings, but with the Wind as her guide she discovers how everything creates out of patterns. Could the key to flowing with the rhythms of nature, and not against them, be found in the essence of her name? In Grace and the Wind, futurist Kristina Dryža delivers a modern allegorical novel on how the very nature of life itself is expressed and experienced as rhythmic patterns of energy.

Book excerpt: As curator and manager of the Marshfield Manor, Grace Wheaton is delighted to be part of the estate’s magnificent history, but no one told her solving murder was in her job description… When Grace’s former professor calls to warn her that there have been a rash of thefts at various historical sites, Grace isn’t surprised—because Marshfield Manor has been targeted, too. She wonders if it has something to do with the film crew roaming the grounds, digitally immortalizing the manor, but then she gets distracted by an incident much more dire: the shooting of one guest and the murder of another. Grace does her best not to go looking for trouble, but with a murderer on the loose, she can’t seem to leave the dirty work to the cops—especially since the killer still seems to be lurking around town, waiting to finish the job of making Grace history…

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword by Mandy Arioto, President of MOPS International TERESA SWANSTROM ANDERSON is living the life she thought she never wanted. With an art history degree and dreams of living in Europe as a curator, Teresa had big plans for herself. She had no desire to have kids—didn’t even like them—but after a decision to lay her exciting plans at the feet of Christ, God began changing her heart little by little. While dating the man who eventually became her husband, the two felt called to adopt from Africa. Now, Teresa’s house is bursting at the seams with the loves of her life—her husband, Ben, and their six children, four of whom were born in Ethiopia. She believes in celebrating the everyday and instilling the love of God and others in her children’s hearts. She views her life as a series of redirected dreams, stumbling, falling, getting up, and wondering if she is investing her time where it matters most. Through it all, Teresa grasps joy tightly amid the craziness of everyday life. Go from dreaming about your life to living it fully with God in control. Pick up this book, grab a notebook, curl up on the couch, and open your heart to the potential of allowing your life to become beautifully interrupted. Includes reflection questions and Bible study prompts. Have you gotten so caught up in life and your well-intentioned plans that you may have accidentally planned God right out of it all? Teresa Swanstrom Anderson did just that. Her carefully laid out life changed course when she whispered to God, “Send me. Use me.” Be inspired as you read Beautifully Interrupted and learn the importance of giving your plans back to God and allow Him to expand the borders of your life and heart. This book offers strategies and encouragement for living through the in-between times of waiting, as well as facing trials with grace and active faith. Become equipped to brave the storms and embrace the life-changing power of seeking God’s plan first and sacrificing time and set plans in favor of something far greater.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working Girl meets What Remains in this New York Times bestselling, behind-the-scenes story of an unlikely friendship between America’s favorite First Son, John F. Kennedy Jr. and his personal assistant, a blue-collar girl from the Bronx. Featured in the documentary I Am JFK Jr.! From the moment RoseMarie Terenzio unleashed her Italian temper on the entitled nuisance commandeering her office in a downtown New York PR firm, an unlikely friendship bloomed between the blue-collar girl from the Bronx and John F. Kennedy Jr. Many books have sought to capture John F. Kennedy Jr.’s life. None has been as intimate or as honest as Fairy Tale Interrupted. Recalling the adventure of working as his executive assistant for five years, RoseMarie portrays the man behind the icon—patient, protective, surprisingly goofy, occasionally thoughtless and self-involved, yet capable of extraordinary generosity and kindness. She reveals how he dealt with dating, politics, and the paparazzi, and describes life behind the scenes at George magazine. Captured here are her memories of Carolyn Bessette, how she orchestrated the ultra-secretive planning of John and Carolyn’s wedding on Cumberland Island—and the heartbreak of their deaths on July 16, 1999, after which RoseMarie’s whole world came crashing down around her. Only now does she feel she can tell her story in a book that stands as “a fitting personal tribute to a unique boss . . . deliriously fun and entertaining” (Kirkus Reviews).

Book excerpt: I have gone through more hurt than I can explain from my alcoholic mother to the events in this book. God is almighty. I compare myself to Job in all ways. God is faithful in all situation, and I give him all the glory. Pick it up and go on the journey from the last twenty years of my life. I don't know when the hurt will stop, but again, God is faithful. My husband and I were high school sweethearts. We started dating when we were almost to turn fifteen. We always talked about having a modest family and knew we would be together forever. We got married the year my husband graduated, in 1992, on November 7. He was eighteen, and I was nineteen. We wanted to have a couple of children; we wanted them so bad we would borrow my sister's kids and take them to movies and playdates. They would help us decorate our Christmas tree. When we found out I couldn't have children, I felt so dysfunctional. The one thing a woman was made to do, I couldn't do. My husband and I have now been married twenty-six years. We are happy, and everything we have gone through has brought us closer, not pushed us apart. My pastor said that all we had gone through would have broken people up, but everything has brought us closer instead. I still have trouble with guilt about my infertility. I have now had a hysterectomy, and my chances are gone, but as you will read, God has made me whole. Without my faith and my God, I will have been a lot worse. I hope you enjoy the book, but if you are going through it, I hope it helps you get through it, with all my love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This rich history illuminates the lives and partnerships of five married couples – two British, three American – whose unions defied the conventions of their time and anticipated social changes that were to come in the ensuing century. In all five marriages, both husband and wife enjoyed thriving professional lives: a shocking circumstance at a time when wealthy white married women were not supposed to have careers, and career women were not supposed to marry. Patricia Auspos examines what we can learn from the relationships of the Palmers, the Youngs, the Parsons, the Webbs, and the Mitchells, exploring the implications of their experiences for our understanding of the history of gender equality and of professional work. In expert and lucid fashion, Auspos draws out the interconnections between the institutions of marriage and professional life at a time when both were undergoing critical changes, by looking specifically at how a pioneering generation tried to combine the two. Based on extensive archival research and drawing on mostly unpublished letters, journals, pocket diaries, poetry, and autobiographical writings, Breaking Conventions tells the intimate stories of five path-breaking marriages and the social dynamics they confronted and revealed. This book will appeal to scholars, students, and anyone interested in women’s studies, gender studies, masculinity studies, histories of women in the professions, and the history of marriage.
