Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Definitions of grace identify one's religious affiliation in Christendom and one's attitude toward Bible content. This book gives the theological development of the word and presents evidence that the word does not mean "unmerited." Further, it is shown that to ignore this is to misinterpret Jesus' mission and reject the loving grace that He provides to us from His Father and our Judge.

Book Synopsis The Complete Works of C. H. Spurgeon, Volume 15 by : Spurgeon, Charles H.
Download or read book The Complete Works of C. H. Spurgeon, Volume 15 written by Spurgeon, Charles H. and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 1046 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 15 Sermons 848-907 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to republish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
Download or read book Radical Depravity written by John Owen and published by Felipe chavarro. This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Christ saves radically depraved men, women, and children from their sins. However, to understand, believe, and love the good news about the crucified and resurrected Savior, we must first understand our condition. Thus, we offer this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster: Radical Depravity. Arthur Pink introduces us to this weighty subject by asking the question, “Is man a totally and thoroughly depraved creature by nature?” Thomas Reade then tells us about the deadly consequences and bitter fruits of Adam’s fall: in Adam all die. We then consider Joel Beeke’s helpful survey of the doctrine of human depravity. A second article by Thomas Reade leads us to a painful truth: the heart of man is evil. But he does not leave us there: he takes us to the blessed Son of God for deliverance. John Owen describes with great clarity the depraved and corrupted state of man’s mind and teaches us that the only remedy for this great darkness is the new birth: “You must be born again.” Loraine Boettner explains the extent and effects of original sin, which results in human inability in the matters of salvation. What is our true spiritual condition outside of Christ? Charles Spurgeon declares that we are legally, spiritually, and eternally dead. Nevertheless, he also tells us that we can be legally, spiritually, eternally alive by faith in Jesus Christ the Son! We then hear from John Flavel that in mercy, grace, and love, God draws sinners to Jesus Christ, gradually, suitably, powerfully, effectually, and finally. That is indeed good news! J. C. Ryle brings our subject to a close by asking a penetrating question: “Are you dead or alive?” Each of us, dear readers, must answer that question.

Book Synopsis In Search For The Gift Of The Holy Spirit by : Gaylon West
Download or read book In Search For The Gift Of The Holy Spirit written by Gaylon West and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-07-24 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only is Acts 2:38 a controversial text because of the mention of baptism "for the remission of sin" but also because of the second independent clause. The audience asks, "What shall we do?" Peter answers in two clauses. The second is, "You shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." What does that mean? West has taken a fresh look at the many passages dealing with the Holy Spirit. He revisits Acts 5:32 where much misunderstanding has arisen. West deals with the English and Greek grammar in the passages in the context of the entire Bible. The major views of the gift of the Holy Spirit are dealt with: (1) the gift is salvation; (2) the gift is supernatural signs; (3) the expression is metaphorical; (4) the gift is the Spirit Himself. Major problems that influence beliefs are (a) learned scholars use their theology instead of their scholarship, (b) the grammar is treated as a complex sentence instead of a compound one, and (c) passages such as Acts 5:29-32 are misused to prove what the gift is.
Book Synopsis Marriages Designed In Heaven by : Gaylon West
Download or read book Marriages Designed In Heaven written by Gaylon West and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-01-18 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of marriage is a timely subject. The Bible simply defines marriage as "a man takes a woman." Happiness and well-being in marriage is based on a specific design. This design along with society's mores, civil government expectations, and ecclesiastical laws and fantasies are addressed. Jesus' message is compared and/or contrasted with Moses, the Prophets, the Pharisees, the Apostles, and Medieval church leaders. Over 40 translations of the Bible were consulted in addition to comparing the ancient Hebrew with its Greek equivalents through interlinears, word studies, lexicons, dictionaries, textual variants, and scholastic articles and comments. The appendix gives the history of Christendom's changing positions on marriage, divorce, and remarriage.
