Book Synopsis Gay Girl, Good God by : Jackie Hill Perry
Download or read book Gay Girl, Good God written by Jackie Hill Perry and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.
Download or read book Good God written by David Baggett and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-04-20 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to reinvigorate discussions of moral arguments for God's existence. To open this debate, Baggett and Walls argue that God's love and moral goodness are perfect, without defect, necessary, and recognizable. After integrating insights from the literature of both moral apologetics and theistic ethics, they defend theistic ethics against a variety of objections and, in so doing, bolster the case for the moral argument for God's existence. It is the intention of the authors to see this aspect of natural theology resume its rightful place of prominence, by showing how a worldview predicated on the God of both classical theism and historical Christian orthodoxy has more than adequate resources to answer the Euthyphro Dilemma, speak to the problem of evil, illumine natural law, and highlight the moral significance of the incarnation and resurrection of Christ. Ultimately, the authors argue, there is principled reason to believe that morality itself provides excellent reasons to look for a transcendent source of its authority and reality, and a source that is more than an abstract principle.
Download or read book Good Or God? written by John Bevere and published by Messenger International. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These days the terms good and God seem synonymous. We believe what’s generally accepted as good must be in line with God’s will. Generosity, humility, justice—good. Selfishness, arrogance, cruelty—evil. The distinction seems pretty straightforward. But is that all there is to it? If good is so obvious, why does the Bible say that we need discernment to recognize it? Good or God? isn’t another self-help message. This book will do more than ask you to change your behavior. It will empower you to engage with God on a level that will change every aspect of your life.
Book Synopsis What Good Is God? by : Philip Yancey
Download or read book What Good Is God? written by Philip Yancey and published by FaithWords. This book was released on 2011-01-26 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Enhanced eBook edition, Philip Yancey is featured in exclusive videos, offering insight into the stories and people he has encountered along the way. Journalist and spiritual seeker Philip Yancey has always struggled with the most basic questions of the Christian faith. The question he tackles in WHAT GOOD IS GOD? concerns the practical value of belief in God. His search for the answer to this question took him to some amazing settings around the world: Mumbai, India when the firing started during the terrorist attacks; at the motel where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated; on the Virginia Tech campus soon after the massacre; an AA convention; and even to a conference for women in prostitution. At each of the 10 places he visited, his preparation for the visit and exactly what he said to the people he met each provided evidence that faith really does work when what we believe is severely tested. WHAT GOOD IS GOD? tells the story of Philips journey--the background, the preparation, the presentations themselves. Here is a story of grace for armchair travelers, spiritual seekers, and those in desperate need of assurance that their faith really matters.

Download or read book Good God, Lousy World, and Me written by Holly Burkhalter and published by Convergent Books. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “In this extraordinary memoir, one of the foremost human rights advocates of the last half century shares her brutally and hilariously honest story of finding God.” —Gary A. Haugen, president and CEO, International Justice Mission For years, Holly Burkhalter was a heartbroken idealist working on the front lines of change around the world—a witness to the brutalities of genocide, sex trafficking, rape, slavery, greed and injustice. Throughout her career she found herself angrily, sometimes hilariously at odds with a God who seemed distant at best and tyrannical at worst. Until the day she found herself drawn into a community of fellow activists who loved, worshiped, and served another God altogether—a God who hated injustice, too. And who had a plan for combating it. Us. It was the greatest, most radiant surprise of her life. Today Holly engages deeply with the questions that kept her from faith for most of her adult life: How could a good God allow brutality, mental illness, and AIDS? Why does God seem indifferent when we are in great need? What is our part in pushing back the darkness? Through riveting stories from her life, she wrestles these questions to the ground. Sometimes she wins. Sometimes the questions do. Either way, Good God, Lousy World & Me will transform your understanding of God’s presence and purpose—and ours—in a broken world. Now includes a small group discussion guide.
Book Synopsis Is a Good God Logically Possible? by : James P. Sterba
Download or read book Is a Good God Logically Possible? written by James P. Sterba and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using yet untapped resources from moral and political philosophy, this book seeks to answer the question of whether an all good God who is presumed to be all powerful is logically compatible with the degree and amount of moral and natural evil that exists in our world. It is widely held by theists and atheists alike that it may be logically impossible for an all good, all powerful God to create a world with moral agents like ourselves that does not also have at least some moral evil in it. James P. Sterba focuses on the further question of whether God is logically compatible with the degree and amount of moral and natural evil that exists in our world. The negative answer he provides marks a new stage in the age-old debate about God's existence.

Book excerpt: Are you dealing with a loss, fear and anxiety, heartbreak or facing a giant? There is hope. True story of struggle and yet great victory in Jesus. From the AuthorWe live in a world that is so busy, with everyone competing for our attention. So why should you stop and look at this book? What's so special about it and what gives me the right to speak into your life? Well, please allow me to tell you. This book wasn't written because I wanted to be an author. It wasn't written because I am qualified or wanted a platform. It was written because God put it on my heart to tell people about my story so my testimonies can help those who are still going through the "test" part of their future testimonies. It's to encourage those of you who are stuck, stuck in life, and stuck in a rut. It's for those who are camping in the valley of the shadow of death instead of walking through it and into the feast that God has prepared for them. It's to encourage those who have been through a loss, those who have been rejected, those who have struggled with fear and anxiety, those who are facing financial lack and those who are up against a giant right now and can't see a way around it. There is hope, and God knows the path out. I've been through a lot of struggles. I've lost my sister, had my heart broken, been in an accident, been held up at gunpoint, had significant health struggles, and been through lots of battles, but through it all, I've seen Jesus and heard His voice. And He has always led me out into victory. I've also seen the deliverance of the Lord. I've seen God do miracles. I've seen God come through in impossible situations. I've seen heaven come to earth on many occasions and have seen God redeem situations that were meant for our harm and made them for our good. I've seen God speak and we responded and saw the victory He promised. GOD IS REAL, and when the Holy Spirit breathes on it, the Bible comes alive, and God shows you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. He is your deliverer, protector, comforter and friend. His word is the light to the path that shines the way and shows you where to go. So, I want to share my stories with you in hope that God can use them to lift you up and pull you out of the pit. Reminding you that you are a child of the King, you were born for a purpose, and you belong in a palace. Take my testimonies and hold onto them. Begin to phophesy the same victories into your life too. The same God who is in me is in you. What God has made available to me is also available to you. He has no favourites, but He does respond to faith. So, take him at His word and hold onto Him and when you feel like backing down, giving up or hiding away from life. Remind yourself that He is Good and He is God. He is for you and not against you. Have faith in God, He's got you and will never let go of you. So, go ahead and take a look at this book. Give it a try. What do you have to lose? God's waiting for you and calling you deeper into His presence. His victories are hidden for you and not from you. But you have to seek Him a little deeper. Oh, and by the way, 25% of the profits of this book will go to the family of a dear friend who's gone to be with Jesus (because life doesn't always go the way we want). But we can trust God to redeem and restore, and we can trust that somehow, He will always work things out for the good of those who love him. Download or read book Good Without God written by Greg Epstein and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2010-10-26 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inspiring and provocative exploration of an alternative to traditional religion Questions about the role of God and religion in today's world have never been more relevant or felt more powerfully. Many of us are searching for a place where we can find not only facts and scientific reason but also hope and moral courage. For some, answers are found in the divine. For others, including the New Atheists, religion is an "enemy." But in Good Without God, Greg Epstein presents another, more balanced and inclusive response: Humanism. He highlights humanity's potential for goodness and the ways in which Humanists lead lives of purpose and compassion. Humanism can offer the sense of community we want and often need in good times and bad—and it teaches us that we can lead good and moral lives without the supernatural, without higher powers . . . without God.
