Download or read book Zen Putting written by Joseph Parent and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007-04-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bestselling author of Zen Golf (more than 100,000 copies sold) presents a new book of profound wisdom and proven techniques for achieving the confidence in putting that all golfers know is the key to peak performance on the greens. Blending Buddhist wisdom, modern psychology, and practical golf instruction, Dr. Joe Parent’s 2002 book Zen Golf broke out to become the top instructional book in golf, and continues to be a steady bestseller. Now, in the eagerly awaited follow-up, Dr. Parent provides readers with a new approach to the aspect of golf in which mental skills have the most impact: putting. Zen Putting takes a thinking-outside-the-box approach based on the idea that by tuning into the process of putting rather than worrying about the result, golfers can get out of their own way and maximize performance. Key principles include using mindful awareness to recognize and clear away distractions and negativity, and that confidence increases when golfers take the attitude that there is something fundamentally, essentially right with them rather than focusing on what’s broken or flawed. In succinct, informative chapters, Dr. Parent applies this Zen ideal to a variety of subjects for any putting situation. Chapters include: • “Unconquerable Confidence”: brimming with strategies to cultivate confidence and turn frustration into enjoyment. • “Get Out of Your Own Way”: exploring the obstacles we create for ourselves in putting, and how to recognize and overcome them to get the most out of our abilities. • “How to Make Every Putt”: on reading greens; visualization; putting routine; the key components of a putt—path, pace, and roll; and taking the ideal attitude before putting. Unlike rigid how-to books on putting or fad coaching techniques, Zen Putting stirs each reader to cultivate their own unique style for synchronizing body and mind to achieve peak performance.

Each chapter presents the unique physical and spiritual challenges of exotic and exclusive courses around the world from Scotland, Africa, and Thailand to Oregon, Alaska, and Nepal. Download or read book Zen Golf written by Joseph Parent and published by Doubleday. This book was released on 2002-06-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A highly original and groundbreaking book from a noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor • “The lessons in Zen Golf make the mental game seem so simple. Dr. Parent has given me very effective methods for working with thoughts and emotions, and for taking the negatives out of the picture.” —Vijay Singh, Masters and PGA Champion By combining classic insights and stories from Zen tradition, Zen Golf helps eliminate the mental distractions that routinely cause poor shots and loss of concentration, allowing golfers to feel in “the zone” that professionals have learned to master. The best players know that golf is a game of confidence, and most important, concentration–the ability to focus and block out distraction. The goal of achieving clear thought is also at the heart of Buddhist teachings. PGA coach and Buddhist instructor Dr. Joseph Parent draws on this natural connection and teaches golfers how to clear their minds, achieve ultimate focus, and play in the moment for each shot. Zen Golf presents a simple system for building “mental game mastery.” Dr Parent’s unique PAR Approach (focusing on Preparation, Action, and Response to Results) guides golfers with specific techniques for each aspect of their games. In chapters such as “How to Get From the Practice Tee to the First Tee”, “You Produce What You Fear”, and “How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf”, the author shares a personal teaching regimen that has helped improve the games of professionals and amateurs alike. Clear, concise, and enlightening, Zen Golf shows golfers how to prepare for, execute, and equally important, respond the results of any golf shot. A different approach to golf instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings.
Download or read book Yvain written by Chretien de Troyes and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1987-09-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The empty cup approach means receiving everything that is taught in an open way, withholding judgment about it until you’ve had a chance to try it out. Try your best to understand what is being communicated, then give it a fair chance to work. #2 The Buddhist teachings on the learning process use the metaphor of the cup to symbolize four types of students. The first cup is upside down, representing a student who is supposedly there to learn, but pays no attention. The second cup is right side up, but has a hole in the bottom. The third cup is right side up and doesn’t have a hole in it, but the inside is covered with dirt. The fourth cup represents the ideal way to be a student. #3 The Nine Dots Exercise involves drawing four straight lines that connect all nine dots without lifting your pencil from the paper. To solve the puzzle, your lines must go beyond the right edge of the box and then beyond the bottom of the box. #4 Par is an example of an illusory box that mid- to high-handicap golfers create for themselves. They should instead think outside of it. When measuring your score against the same number in widely different conditions, you will feel much more at ease approaching a difficult hole from this new perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LOWER YOUR GOLF SCORE AND DO IT ZEN FULLY , Challenges in life can distract you from your goal of playing the shot at hand. Tired of that little negative voice telling you all the wrong things keeping you up bogey Creek.. This book relaxes and eases the thought process making it much more , Zenfull , Allowing the thought to come and pass. Do not attempt to eliminate it; allow it to pass naturally, like a wave on the ocean! This GUIDE is a self-help Zen-based book of step-by-step insightful mind challenges that collectively organize mind, body and soul, making the game of golf the highlighted factor and focusing on perfecting the game. Imagine this, I put a wooden board on the ground. It is 50ft long and a width of 2ft. I ask you to walk along the plank from one end to the other. You do this without concern as there are no real consequences and the width is very large. I now raise the plank 2ft off the ground. Chances are you will still walk along it without any real concern as the consequences of falling off are quite acceptable. In golf terminology, we might say you are on the 18th green and your ball is 45ft from the hole and you have a 6-shot lead. Since you are unconcerned about the result, you simply putt and the likelihood is that you can hole it in two or fewer strokes because you are comfortable and unconcerned. You don't care if you miss the first putt and believe it or not, that is the optimal way to play. You are unconcerned with the result and simply make the one putt. Steve Davis, one of the greatest snooker players of all time and now a household name in the pool, once said, "You have to play as though it doesn't matter, especially when it does." Following that, I lift the wooden plank to a height of ten feet. Consider how you can step along it. Now lift it to a height of 30ft. If you fall from there, you will be injured and your conscious brain will start to consider the consequences, causing you to fear, stress and doubt. You would not be able to walk as confidently along the plank as you did when it was on the floor and you simply stepped along it. In other words, you walked it without realizing or thinking about it. What if the plank is raised to a height of 100ft?
