Book Synopsis Geological Classification of Canadian Gold Deposits by : Knud Howard Poulsen
Download or read book Geological Classification of Canadian Gold Deposits written by Knud Howard Poulsen and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin proposes a geological classification of lode gold deposits based largely on the nature of the ore and on the geological settings of the deposits. Sixteen common types of bedrock gold deposits are distinguished and their main geological attributes are summarized. These do not correspond to an equal number of genetic types; many of these deposit types represent different components of larger hydrothermal systems and are genetically related. Most of the deposit types identified are represented by at least one large example (containing over 100 tonnes of gold). Descriptions are provided of Canadian gold deposits, including Archean & Proterozoic deposits in the Canadian Shield, Late Proterozoic to Palaeozoic deposits in the Appalachian Orogen, and Mesozoic to Cenozoic deposits in the Cordilleran Orogen. The final section discusses the application of gold deposit models.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mining has had a significant presence in every part of Canada — from the east to west coasts to the far north. This book tells the stories of those who built Canada’s mining industry. It highlights the experiences of the people who lived and worked in mining towns across the country, the rise of major mining companies, and the emergence of Toronto and Vancouver as centres of global mining finance. It also addresses the devastating effects mining has had on Indigenous communities and their land and documents several high-profile resistance efforts. Mining Country presents fascinating snapshots of Canadian mining past and present, from pre-contact Indigenous copper mining and trading networks to the famous Cariboo and Klondike Gold Rushes. Generously illustrated with more than 150 visuals drawn from every period of mining history, this book offers a thorough account of the story behind the industry.
Book Synopsis Targeted Geoscience Initiative 4 - gold ore systems by : Geological Survey of Canada
Download or read book Targeted Geoscience Initiative 4 - gold ore systems written by Geological Survey of Canada and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold is recognized globally as a symbol of wealth, success and fortune. It plays an important role in Canada's economy. In 2011, gold production ranked fourth for the total value of mined metals in Canada and first in the number of operating mines in the country. 1 Despite recent increases in exploration, Canadian gold reserves have significantly declined in the last two decades. The Gold Ore Systems Project will collect data about the nature, location and depth of gold deposits. The project will study three main gold deposit types: banded-iron formation-hosted deposits; intrusion-related deposits; large, fault-related Archean gold districts.

Book Synopsis The Weight of Gold by : Mica Jorgenson
Download or read book The Weight of Gold written by Mica Jorgenson and published by University of Nevada Press. This book was released on 2023-06-06 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mining in North America has long been criticized for its impact on the natural environment. Mica Jorgenson’s The Weight of Gold explores the history of Ontario, Canada’s rise to prominence in the gold mining industry, while detailing a series of environmental crises related to extraction activities. In Ontario in 1909, the discovery of exceptionally rich hard rock gold deposits in the Abitibi region in the north precipitated industrial development modeled on precedents in Australia, South Africa, and the United States. By the late 1920s, Ontario’s mines had reached their maturity, and in 1928, Minister of Mines Charles McRae called Canada “the mineral treasure house to [the] world.” Mining companies increasingly depended upon their ability to redistribute the burdens of mining onto surrounding communities—a strategy they continue to use today—both at home and abroad. Jorgenson connects Canadian gold mining to its international context, revealing that Ontario’s gold mines informed extractive knowledge which would go on to shape Canada’s mining industry over the next century.
