Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you or someone you know being held captive by self-condemnation or guilt? Maybe you once served in a ministry but fell through mistake or sin, feeling there is no way back to God. When we fall, the world is quick to condemn us. Family members, friends, associates, and the self-righteous are quick to judge us guilty without recourse. While the world's condemnation is hurtful, it pales to the condemnation and guilt we put on ourselves. This condemnation comes from the devil, and he uses it to stifle any attempt to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off. Whenever the slimmest glimmer of hope appears, he quickly reminds us of what we have done. He will even use portions of Scripture to snuff out the faintest of hope's light. This keeps us broken and wondering what is the use of trying to reach out to God. Between these book covers resides a testimony to the good, the bad, and the ugly of the author's life. The accounts are raw and unvarnished. It is also a testimony of the immeasurable depth of God's love, God's grace, and God's mercy. The author shares how God took him into the wilderness to remake and repurpose him. God used an old ice tea glass to drive home the lesson The author prays sharing his story will set another captive free from the condemnation and guilt that keeps us from serving and honoring God. It doesn't matter who you are or what you have done, no one is outside the grasp of God's love, grace, and mercy. He uses our mistakes to build us up for his glory. He never stops caring.

Book Synopsis The Audacious Ascetic by : Flagg Miller
Download or read book The Audacious Ascetic written by Flagg Miller and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In late 2002, over 1500 audiotapes were discovered in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in a house once occupied by Osama bin Laden. The Audacious Ascetic is the first book to explore this extraordinary archive. It details how Islamic cultural, legal, theological and linguistic vocabularies shaped militants' understandings of al-Qa'ida, and, more controversially, challenges the notion that the group's original adversary was America and the 'far enemy'. Miller argues that Western security agencies' 'management' of Bin Laden's growing reputation went awry. When magnified through global media coverage, narratives of al-Qa'ida's coherence were exploited by Osama and his militant supporters for their own ends. Focusing on over a dozen previously unpublished speeches by Bin Laden as well as on discussions by top al-Qa'ida leaders and Arab- Afghans, Miller chronicles the Saudi radical's evolving relationship with a host of Muslim insurgencies that found his stripe of asceticism (zuhd) tactically useful, especially when circulated via audiotape. These recordings also reveal militants' disenchantment when Bin Laden, marginalized through the '90s, began pandering to Western television networks in his attempt to direct heterodox Islamist armed struggles against America. Such audio evidence exposes al-Qa'ida's lack of coordination before 9-11 and invites scrutiny of dominant narratives of Western law enforcement, intelligence and terrorism analysts.

Download or read book Good Or God? written by John Bevere and published by Messenger International. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These days the terms good and God seem synonymous. We believe what’s generally accepted as good must be in line with God’s will. Generosity, humility, justice—good. Selfishness, arrogance, cruelty—evil. The distinction seems pretty straightforward. But is that all there is to it? If good is so obvious, why does the Bible say that we need discernment to recognize it? Good or God? isn’t another self-help message. This book will do more than ask you to change your behavior. It will empower you to engage with God on a level that will change every aspect of your life.

Book excerpt: Eros, art, and gorgeous blasphemyÉ Adrianna Borgia, survivor of the Borgia court, presents Michelangelo with the greatest temptations of his life while struggling herself with soul-threatening desires and heresies. Her growing passion for the painter Raphaela Bramante mirrors the sculptorÕs damnable interest in a castrato in the Sistine choir and in the ideas of secular humanism. Claimed as the epitome of Christian inspiration, MichelangeloÕs ceiling is revealed as a coup of Eros upon religion, a gorgeous blasphemy and a paean to forbidden love in the very heart of the Church.

Book Synopsis The Meaning of Faith by : Harry Emerson Fosdick
Download or read book The Meaning of Faith written by Harry Emerson Fosdick and published by . This book was released on 1917 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book on faith has been for years my hope and intention. And now it comes to final form during the most terrific war men ever waged, when faith is sorely tried and deeply needed. Direct discussion of the war has been purposely avoided; the issues here presented are not confined to those which the war suggests; but many streams of thought within the book flow in channels that the war has worn. Since the conflict had to come, I am glad for this book's sake that it was not written until it had Europe's holocaust for a background. Against one misunderstanding the reader should be guarded. If anyone approaches these studies, expecting to find detailed and special views of Christian doctrine, he will be disappointed. The perplexities of mind and life and the affirmations of religious faith, with which these studies deal, lie far beneath sectarian doctrinal controversy. I have tried to make clear a foundation on which faith might build its thoughts of Christian truth. And while I have spoken freely of God and Christ and the Spirit, of the Cross and life eternal, I have not intended or endeavored a complete theology. - Preface.
