Book excerpt: Never before has a book like God, Guns Fear been written. God, Guns Fear is a unique look into most corrupted capitalist society in the world. It offers insight into the true mechanisms, the cultural-ideological roots which governs the most omnipotent yet perverse national entity to appear in the annals of history. This book examines the corruption of the capitalist plutocracy of the United States not only by documenting the prevalent acts of corruption themselves, but by also delving into the depths of American ideological/religious dogmatism. The book is a voice of protest in defense of humanity, ethics, socialist democracy, and freedom from Christian fundamentalism. It is meant as a voice of truth for those who already have a love for all that is humanity, as written not only from facts but from the heart as well.

Book excerpt: What if the greatest threat to Christianity in America was American Christianity? As the Church has become increasingly entangled in the pursuit of politics, the Gospel has become tarnished and often abandoned as the primary focus of the Body of Christ. Jesus Untangled is a prophetic call for the Church to awaken from the "American Dream" and to return to Her first love. Because, as the author powerfully demonstrates in these pages, you can't convert a culture that has already converted you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruth Graham, daughter of Billy and Ruth Bell Graham, tackles the fear and uncertainty readers confront when facing daunting challenges and times of uncertainty. Graham empathizes with readers who feel inadequate, outnumbered, overpowered, ill-equipped, or even beyond hope. She then leads a discovery of the all-sufficiency of God and his power, demonstrating how to replace fears with hope and anticipation. Graham writes, “If you are hoping to find within these pages ten steps to greater confidence or positive self-talk for conquering anxiety or how to rise above your challenges to reach your destiny, you won’t find what you are looking for here at all. This book is not about overcoming your shortcomings to build a better you. Growing an unshakable trust in God as you face your tomorrows is not about self-improvement or mastering your circumstances, but about God—who he is, what he does, and why we can trust him.” Graham writes not from an ivory tower of theological discourse, but from the battlefields of brokenness and recovery. From that vantage point she offers evidence that, whether readers’ frightening tomorrows are self-inflicted, other-inflicted, or simply life-inflicted, they may hold fast to the simple yet powerful truth, Fear not tomorrow, God is already there. Each chapter explores a distinct attribute of God and an illustration from God’s Word demonstrating each attribute at work in the face of daunting challenges. Then Graham unpacks enlightening encounters of God’s presence and power, impacting the lives of everyday people today. Graham weaves a tapestry of the all-sufficiency of God and his power to enfold our todays and tomorrows in his mighty grip. Readers will catch sight of his power, learn to rest in his peace, and be filled with anticipation for the future. Fear not tomorrow, God is already there!

Book excerpt: What if fear is the new brave? That's the question that you need answered if you are living afraid. Finding courage begins with fear itself--fear of the Lord. I Choose Brave reveals a countercultural plan to help you where you are--knee-deep in fears of parenting, the future, your marriage, and a world that feels unstable. When you're feeling fearful, the last thing you need is a social-media meme telling you to simply "power through" your fears. In I Choose Brave, Katie Westenberg digs deep into Scripture and shows that finding the courage to overcome our fears must start with fear of the Lord. Hundreds of passages speak to this foundational truth, yet we have somehow relegated them to antiquity. In sharing her own compelling story of facing her worst fear, Katie serves up theological truth with relatable application. In this book, you will · discover a fresh take on an old truth that displaces fear once and for all · understand why the culture's idea of "fearlessness" is a farce · access the holy courage you were made for With this new knowledge comes tremendous freedom. Hidden in the cleft of the Rock, the One truly worthy of our fear, you will begin to understand the only path to real courage.

Book excerpt: Fear runs rampant in the world today, including fears related to the rise of nationalism, refugees, political corruption, violence, religious extremism, and climate crises. Amid these existential realities, the biblical idea of "the fear of God" poses theological opportunities and challenges for those who address these themes in their preaching and public ministry. This collection of conference presentations from the 2018 meeting of Societas Homiletica focuses on how preaching and homiletical studies around the world address the rhetorical, biblical, political, and spiritual dimensions of fear as it has emerged in recent decades in church and society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed journal of local, national, and foreign news, agricultural activities, the weather, and family events, from an uncommon Southerner Most inhabitants of the Old South, especially the plain folk, devoted more time to leisurely activities—drinking, gambling, hunting, fishing, and just loafing—than did James Mallory, a workaholic agriculturalist, who experimented with new plants, orchards, and manures, as well as the latest farming equipment and techniques. A Whig and a Unionist, a temperance man and a peace lover, ambitious yet caring, business-minded and progressive, he supported railroad construction as well as formal education, even for girls. His cotton production—four bales per field hand in 1850, nearly twice the average for the best cotton lands in southern Alabama and Georgia--tells more about Mallory's steady work habits than about his class status. But his most obvious eccentricity—what gave him reason to be remembered—was that nearly every day from 1843 until his death in 1877, Mallory kept a detailed journal of local, national, and often foreign news, agricultural activities, the weather, and especially events involving his family, relatives, slaves, and neighbors in Talladega County, Alabama. Mallory's journal spans three major periods of the South's history--the boom years before the Civil War, the rise and collapse of the Confederacy, and the period of Reconstruction after the Civil War. He owned slaves and raised cotton, but Mallory was never more than a hardworking farmer, who described agriculture in poetical language as “the greatest [interest] of all.”
