The conflict is between belief in the Biblical Worldview and belief in a non-biblical worldview. If a claim about nature is not testable or observable and then confirmable, it is not science. This book shows where evidence-based science supports the Biblical Worldview, and where evidence-based science conflicts with the other so-called “scientific” worldviews of our modern times. For instance, experiments have shown over and over that life does not arise from chemicals, observations show that biological change is limited, chance does not cause anything, and the Big Bang violates the principle of cause and effect, is not testable, and therefore is not scientific. In his 1859 book, On the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin correctly wrote about his “belief in the transmutation of species” (p302), that “The theory of natural selection is grounded on . . . belief” (p320), and that he believed we descended from one common ancestor (p484). Darwin believed in evolution because he had no evidence. Concerning On the Origin of Species, he admitted that “the whole volume is one long argument” (p459). Concerning God, Darwin wrote about “. . . the laws impressed on matter by the Creator” (p488). Yet, evolutionist Jerry Coyne of the University of Chicago wrote that “the bulk of Darwin’s 1859 book, On the Origin of Species (first edition) actually comprises evidence for evolution.” This claim was in a 2014 letter from atheists complaining about the author to his University President. A signer of this letter (from the Freedom From Religion Foundation) was British multi-millionaire, Richard Dawkins. Atheists such as Coyne and Dawkins have no evidence for their claims that life came from chemicals, that we descended from a common ancestor, or that there is no God. They believe these claims.

The conflict is between belief in the Biblical Worldview and belief in a non-biblical worldview. If a claim about nature is not testable or observable and then confirmable, it is not science. Observations show that biological change is limited and research indicates that evolution is/was not by chance mutations. Additionally, chance does not cause anything. It is a philosophical term and may not even exist. Finally, experiments have repeatedly shown that life does not arise from non-life. Similarly, we did not descend from stardust either. Besides violating the principle of cause and effect, astronomical discoveries are proving that the Big Bang is science fiction. Like evolution, chance, and life from non-life, the Big Bang has to be believed.

Book excerpt: Unraveling the Origins Controversy: Science & the Bible Confirm Creation answers many of the most challenging questions in the origins debate. Dr. David A. DeWitt clears up the confusion about creation and evolution by distinguishing fact from interpretation. He exposes underlying assumptions and evidence on both sides of this contentious debate from a consistent Biblical worldview. Using scientific evidence and Scripture, he presents a positive, compelling case for a creation perspective. This second edition is revised and expanded covering a broad range of subjects from the big bang theory to the origin of life to the alleged 98% DNA similarity between humans and chimpanzees. While understandable to the non-scientist, the book is well documented for those who desire more details.

Book excerpt: Discover the astonishing evidence for intelligent design in this New York Times bestselling book by award-winning journalist Lee Strobel. "My road to atheism was paved by science . . . but, ironically, so was my later journey to God," Strobel says. During his academic years, Lee Strobel became convinced that God was obsolete, a belief that colored his journalism career. Science had made the idea of a Creator irrelevant--or so Strobel thought. But today science points in a different direction. A diverse and impressive body of research has increasingly supported the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. At the same time, Darwinism has faltered in the face of concrete facts and hard reason. Has science discovered God? At the very least, it's giving faith an immense boost, as new findings emerge about the incredible complexity of our universe. Join Strobel as he reexamines the theories that once led him away from God. Through his compelling and highly readable account, you'll encounter the mind-stretching discoveries from cosmology, cellular biology, DNA research, astronomy, physics, and human consciousness that present compelling evidence in The Case for a Creator. Also available: The Case for a Creator small group video study and study guide, Spanish edition, kids' edition, student edition, and more.

Book excerpt: Why is it that science has consistently thrived wherever the Christian faith can be found? Why is it that so many great scientists - past and present - attribute their motivation and their discoveries, at least partially, to their Christian beliefs? Why are the age-old writings of the Bible so full of questions about natural phenomena? And, perhaps most importantly of all, why is all this virtually unknown to the general public? Too often, it would seem, science has been presented to the outside world as a robotic, detached, unemotional enterprise. Too often, Christianity is dismissed as being an ancient superstition. In reality, neither is the case. Science is a deeply human activity, and Christianity is deeply reasonable. Perhaps this is why, from ancient times right up to today, many individuals have been profoundly committed to both - and have helped us to understand more and more about the extraordinary world that we live in. As authors Tom McLeish and David Hutchings examine the story of science, and look at the part that Christianity has played, they uncover a powerful underlying reason for doing science in the first place. In example after example, ranging from 4000 BC to the present day, they show that thinking with a Christian worldview has been intimately involved with, and sometimes even directly responsible for, some of the biggest leaps forward ever made. Ultimately, they portray a biblical God who loves Science - and a Science that truly needs God.

Written for the layman, but with a scientific slant, this compelling book devastates Darwinian arguments for the origin of our universe and planet. Book excerpt: Young-earth creation is foundational to the entire Bible narrative and a true framework for science and history. It is a matter of holding to Biblical authority rather than trusting in man's theories. In truth, there are no facts of science which disprove a young-earth creation. But experts tell us most Christian young people have their faith and their confidence in the Bible undermined when they're in college because they believe the teaching that evolution has proven the earth is billions of years old. Historical scientific evidence is interpreted based on one's worldview - biblical or secular. Therefore, we are dealing with a clash of worldviews, not religion versus science. This book shows how the scientific evidence (astronomy, biology, genetics, geology, paleontology, etc.) and scientific laws align better with a biblical worldview of special creation about 6,000 years ago rather than the secular worldview of evolution beginning billions of years ago.

Book excerpt: This book recounts the amazing grand narrative of what science is telling us of the sweep of cosmic history from the Big Bang to life on planet Earth. On the way, the challenging questions of the origins of the Universe and of life are examined. The authors, Graham and John, have been career scientists working in very different disciplines - physics and biology respectively - and they bring complementary expertise to these profound questions. They are also Christian believers, which opens for them a new dimension in their appreciation of scientific revelation. It also poses questions about how their scientific worldview can be reconciled with a belief in God. Science is very influential in our secular culture. Scientific research and technological spin-offs have provided huge benefits for the way we live. In contrast, some would say that religious faith seems staid and archaic. However, there is more to it than this simple view suggests. Although both authors love science, they are both appreciative of its limitations. It is a very common conviction that science has solved all the mysteries of life, the Universe and everything, and only minor, unfinished business remains to be resolved. However, an examination of this belief shows it is far from the truth. As human beings we hold many beliefs that have very little to do with the 'analytic' truths of science. These big issues, mostly to do with the meaning of life and our purpose within it, lead to the idea that there are effectively two ways of looking at existence, one stemming from science and the other from philosophy/theology. Can a satisfying synthesis of these two major worldviews be achieved? The book addresses many such questions. Has science made God irrelevant? Is it possible to be a scientist with a faith in God, or is the concept of God an archaic legacy of a distant and superstitious past? It is the answers to questions such as these that have inspired the authors to produce this book. The story of Graham's journey to belief in the Christian God is told in the text, and this was very much related to the relationship between science and faith. Both authors acknowledge personal experiences beyond the physical realm and are left with the inevitable conclusion that science gives an incomplete account of their reality. In summary, it is a multi-disciplinary text with a wide ranging discussion of the relevant threads of this story - including the limitations of science, the cosmology of the Bang Bang, the fine-tuning of physical laws to allow life to arise in the Universe, the origins, history and interdependencies of life on Earth, what makes us human, the scientific and Biblical account of creation and the issues of environmental damage and climate change. The book is written for believers and sceptics alike. Believers will feel more comfortable (and thus encouraged) that a harmony can be achieved between the two worldviews. Sceptics, who nevertheless may be seeking some kind of faith, may find guidance and support in their search for the spiritual realm, a search that is embodied in the title of the book.
