Book excerpt: A BLUEPRINT FOR A MEANINGFUL LIFE. In The Atheist's Way, Eric Maisel teaches you how to make rich personal meaning despite the absence of beneficent gods and the indifference of the universe to human concerns. Exploding the myth that there is any meaning to find or to seek, Dr. Maisel explains why the paradigm shift from seeking meaning to making meaning is this century's most pressing intellectual goal. ''Unlike many other books on atheism, which deal with the question of God's existence, The Atheist's Way attempts to answer a different question: So you don't believe - now what? How do you bravely face the world as it is and create meaning for yourself without the crutch of a divine benefactor? Eric Maisel's wise suggestions, musings, and insights are a wonderful resource for your quest.

Book excerpt: Faith is a dynamic thing, a lively thing, of asking questions and finding answers. Danielle D'Souza In Y God, Danielle D'Souza addresses 32 of the most interesting and pressing questions being asked about God by believers and skeptics alike. Rather than coming across as having all the answers, Danielle puts her ideas in the form of a conversation. Yet at her core she has convictions that come from a faith rooted in her heart as well as her head. Y God will appeal to millennials (the Y generation) and anyone who has ever had doubts about the biblical story of God. Some of the questions include: Is faith reasonable? Are miracles really possible? Is the Bible literally true? Is God the author of morality? Are other religions false? Is America a Christian nation? Does anyone deserve hell? Why do people become atheists? Is science at war with religion? Is evolution compatible with the Bible? If Jesus did exist, who was he? How would Christianity change my life?

Book excerpt: Clear, concise, and persuasive, Atheist Universe details exactly why God is unnecessary to explain the universe and life's diversity, organization, and beauty. The author thoroughly rebuts every argument that claims to ''prove'' God's existence - arguments based on logic, common sense, philosophy, ethics, history and science. Atheist Universe avoids the esoteric language and logic used by philosophers and presents its scientific evidence in simple lay terms, making it a richly entertaining and easy-to-read introduction to atheism. A comprehensive primer, it addresses all the historical and scientific questions, including; Is there proof that God does not exist? What evidence is there of Jesus's resurrection? Can creation science reconcile scripture with the latest scientific discoveries? Atheist Universe also answers ethical issues such as; What is the meaning of life without God? It's a spellbinding inquiry that ultimately arrives at a controversial and well-documented conclusion.

The days have passed when the goodness of God - indeed, the reality of God itself - could reasonably be called a consensus opinion. God's reputation has come under considerable review in recent days, with some going so far as to say that it's not we who've made a mess of things. Instead whatever it is we call God is to blame. But is such an opinion really a fair assessment? In this magisterial collection, the contemporary complaints against belief in God are addressed with intellectual passion and rigor by some of the most astute theological and philosophical minds of the day. Including an interview by Gary Habermas with noted convert to theism Antony Flew, and a direct critical response to Richard Dawkin's God Delusion by Alvin Plantinga, God Is Great, God Is Good offers convincing and compelling reassurance that though the world has changed, God has not.

In Godless, Barker describes the intellectual and psychological path he followed in moving from fundamentalism to freethought. Godless includes sections on biblical morality, the historicity of Jesus, biblical contradictions, the unbelievable resurrection, and much more. It is an arsenal for skeptics and a direct challenge to believers. Along the way, Barker relates the positive benefit readers will experience from learning to trust in reason and human kindness instead of living in fear of false judgment and moral condemnation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While I can make various arguments for the harm that religion does in the world, and the dangers represented by a faith mentality, the primary issue that I remain passionate about is that religion is false. The underlying premise is untrue, which means that everything that is built upon that premise is also untrue. The staggering amount of time, money, emotional energy and bloodshed expended in the name of something completely fictitious is a crime against humanity. So while there are debates about religion's place in society, whether the charitable works they do add value, whether they should have tax exemptions and access to power in government, whether the comfort some people seem to derive from their faith is worthwhile and should be left unchallenged, I will focus on one thing: To show that the God of Abraham, from which the three great monotheisms were spawned, does not exist.I have read many books on the subject of gods, religions and belief in the supernatural. I've watched many debates on the matter as well, and one particularly vexing issue comes up frequently and leaves me feeling dissatisfied. That issue is the one of disproving the existence of God. Scientists will often stop well short of even making a claim about the existence of God, answering instead that one cannot prove a negative, i.e. we cannot prove that God doesn't exist. Many debates about the existence of God are often mired down in that esoteric point and the natural progression from there to debates regarding who carries the burden of proof. Arguments are presented and then countered and in the end, people must decide for themselves if they heard anything that impacted their thinking on the subject.I began to think that I could build a compelling argument for the non-existence of God, but I wanted more than just arguments: I wanted proof. What you will find in this book is a combination of both. Part I features arguments supporting my statement that the god of monotheism; the God of Jews, Christians and Muslims featured prominently in the Holy Bible and the Quran, does not actually exist. In Part II of the book, I will use evidence, or more precisely, the lack of evidence where evidence should exist, to show beyond a reasonable doubt that the Biblical God is a mythical figure no more real than Zeus, the King of Gods from Greek Mythology.

Even the word atheist is in a negative format, from the ancient Greek meaning without God. But shouldn't atheists be defined by what we do believe?A bible for atheists is an effort to do this. It states positively what many atheists believe. It puts forth a system of belief based on reason and science and common sense into a coherent structure, starting from basic principles, to answer the big questions about fate and free will, ethics, the emotions, freedom, friendship, love and mating, thinking, rights, prevention of violence, and more. At its heart it is about how to be a good human.Theists have bibles. Atheists should have their own bible too.

Book excerpt: If you don't understand the reason for unbelief, you don't understand the reason for belief. This book is NOT a how-to guide for winning debates with non-believers, or trying to convince atheists there is a God. I spent a decade as an apologist arguing and debating with thousands of unbelievers. I've witnessed hundreds of formal debates between Christians vs atheists, and the one thing that remained unchanged at the end of the day is atheists were still atheists. Nothing changed. Why? There's a reason atheists aren't convinced. It's not because of a lack of evidence for God as they claim. Trying to convince atheists with evidence only presents them with more of what they reject. When a Christian tries to prove God, or rationalize one out of atheism, they do not understand the underlying reason why atheists don't believe. Are atheists asking questions and confronting Christians because they are seeking God? No! Atheists are seeking justification for unbelief. Christians unknowingly give them justification for unbelief by entering The Courtroom of Atheism and answering atheists on their terms. Trying to prove God to one that doesn't believe in God will ultimately give the non-believer justification for unbelief. In this book you'll discover why Christians should never try to prove God to an unbeliever. Doing so demonstrates the Christian disagrees with scripture. You'll also learn the hidden agenda behind the purpose for interrogating Christians. Most importantly, Christians will learn why debating non-believers, and trying to reason with atheists will not bring them to Christ. Far too often people of faith attempt to argue with atheists in hopes to bring them out of atheism only to end up doubting their faith. Why does this happen? If you are curious, this book is for you.

Book excerpt: Growing up, all my friends would have described my family as a Christian family. I assumed all my friends were Christians as well. We all believed in God. We occasionally attended church. We were good people. Even though we believed in God, we didn’t know his word, didn’t understand the gospel, and didn’t pursue his will. We believed in God, but we lived as if he didn’t exist. After pastoring for eighteen years, I’ve noticed a large percentage of people in my church living similar lives. Some seem to be Christian in name only without a lot of visible spiritual fruit. Others boldly claim Christ is Lord while living lives diametrically opposed to the teachings in scripture. The more I looked, the more I found Christian Atheists everywhere. While it is often easy to spot the hypocrisy in others, it is generally more difficult to see in the mirror. One day in an honest moment, I painfully admitted that although I unquestionably believed in God, I was leading the church as if he didn’t exist. I wrongly depended more on my own abilities than on his Spirit. Sadly, I dangerously cared more what people thought about me than what God thought about me. And although I preached about putting your whole faith in God, I still lived as if everything was up to me.The book Christian Atheism reflects my personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
