Now, I’ve fallen even deeper for her, but Karina has no idea what I’ve done. In my desperation, I tried to find someone who could make me feel the way Karina did. Unfortunately, that mistake has come back to bite me in the as*. With two competing boyfriends that trod the wrong side of the law, one blatantly the other more surreptitiously, and a French emigre she walked a difficult path through the moralistic society of the day. On the one side she had Eddy a petty criminal dreaming of the big time and on the other Ray, a wheeling dealing pimp with a love for money, sex and lies and little else, and in the middle she had Lil a hardnosed landlady hell bent on controlling her life. Slowly Dulcie comes to accept what she is and with a few setbacks sorts out the life she wants avoiding the beckoning finger of vice. Along that path two very good friends aid and abet her, Frenchie the beautiful blonde war refugee and Carol a thirty year old café proprietor and pay for tart. Amidst a heavy mix of spanking and heterosexual/lesbian sex/bondage the group take on a London mobster who Ray has a long held grudge against. When a lorry load of confiscated cigarettes go missing the criminals gather each pointing a finger. Long Arm Coulson a hardnosed detective is put on the case further exacerbating nerves each wanting to know who done it.

Before Ashley Keenan became a werewolf she thought she knew where the line between good and evil was drawn. Book excerpt: This is the story of the kidnapping of a Delhi-based management consultant by insurgents in the North East of India in the mid-1990s, told from the perspectives of the kidnappee, his wife in Delhi, and the commander of an insurgent group that has him in its captivity. It spans events from the 1960s onwards and takes the reader across India and its North East, with occasional forays into Bangladesh, Myanmar, and British India’s northwestern frontier. The story delves into questions of ethnicity, identity, nationalism and sub-nationalism in the North East, explores their connection with insurgency, and describes the assumptions, compulsions and motivations of the time. In the process, it introduces the India of the twentieth century, and its North East, to twenty-first century Indians.

Family and friends' photographs are much appreciated and their company on walks too. Exploring the local countryside in the early nineteen fifties, when I was just eight years old, gave me a love of wild life, flora and fauna, and filled me with wonder, hearing the flock of lapwings calling 'Peewit!', and watching them circling, twisting and turning in the blue skies far above me. In those years children could wander freely, easily surviving the occasional mishap such as falling in the deep part of the stream that flowed across the moors to the River Soar. Sketching and painting also enjoyable activities from early childhood enabled me as a self-taught artist to try and capture the beauty of the landscape, where I walk so often, in my paintings as well as in my diary. However, my family struggling to read my handwritten diaries, (I found it difficult too in places!) encouraged me to typewrite them and this book is the result.

Book excerpt: A zookeeper always on the fringe learns to go after her wildest dreams—including a certain television star—in this charming and laugh-out-loud romantic comedy by Kerry Rea, author of The Wedding Ringer. Lucy Rourke has two great loves in her life: the gorilla troop she cares for as a primatologist and the laundry list of reality TV shows she watches to escape the fact that her actual love life doesn’t exist. And like a reality contestant gunning for the final rose, Lucy’s laser-focused on one thing: getting promoted to head keeper. So when a wildlife docuseries hosted by hotshot TV personality Kai Bridges chooses her zoo as its summer filming location, she sees an opportunity to showcase her beloved gorillas to the world and land a starring role in her department. When Kai and his film crew arrive, however, it's obvious to Lucy that Kai cares more about sky-high ratings than the gorillas, and he considers her a camera-averse know-it-all whose wardrobe consists entirely of khaki. But she’s surprised to discover there’s more to him than his rugged good looks and cheesy catchphrases...and that maybe a promotion isn’t the only thing she wants. But when secrets from their pasts threaten to complicate everything, Lucy discovers that happiness and success aren’t the same thing—and that finding joy just might mean getting a little wild.

Ethan Wilder has been off in the mountains hunting for the last several months. Upon his return to the family Bar Five Ranch, Wilder finds his life in chaos. His brother, Ben, after taking his father’s rifle without permission, has locked his father in the outhouse to avoid punishment. Another brother, Vic, is in jail, accused of beating up a girl in town, and the last of the Wilder brothers, Joel, is up north in Canada, trying to sell horses to the Mounties. Ethan’s father, Jacob, has a reputation in town for raising hell. In his opinion, no man tamed the wilderness with a timid soul, but the newer citizens of the town have now been pushing for the removal of local farmers and ranchers like the Wilders. Things come to a head when his father joins the ranks of local farmers found dead under suspicious circumstances. Ethan has no choice but to turn to revenge to uphold the family name and ensure that the murderers won’t come for him next. Wild Side of the River reveals the dark side of the wild frontier in this gripping tale and modern Western classic. Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction that takes place in the old West. Our list includes international bestselling authors like Zane Gray and Louis L’Amour, and many more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
