Book Synopsis Intellectus Gratiae by : Josef Lössl
Download or read book Intellectus Gratiae written by Josef Lössl and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first large scale study on the link between the concepts of intellect and grace in the writings of St. Augustine of Hippo. Its five chapters deal with Augustine's writings on grace as they focus on questions concerning epistemology and hermeneutics. Already non-Christian ancient philosophers identified intellectual perfection with salvation as caused by divine grace. Under their influence (I) Augustine developed also his biblical thought (II). The culmination of his concept of intellectus gratiae, however, came in the later works on sacraments (III), hermeneutics (IV) and against Pelagius and Julian of Eclanum (V). This study highlights that development and recommends the concept of intellectus gratiae as a possible key to Augustine's theological thought as a whole.
Book Synopsis Kant’s Lectures / Kants Vorlesungen by : Bernd Dörflinger
Download or read book Kant’s Lectures / Kants Vorlesungen written by Bernd Dörflinger and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-07-31 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although they were not written by Kant himself, the transcripts of his lectures constitute an important source for philosophical research today. Some of the contributions presented in this volume discuss the authenticity and significance of these transcripts, for example the status of Kant's lectures on logic and anthropology, while others shed light on the historical formation of specific writings, for instance the texts on the philosophy of religion. The contributions provide new insights into Kant's philosophy, that, if looking at Kant's published writings alone, we would not be able to gain. In a number of cases, a critical analysis of Kant's lectures gives us a better understanding of his published works. Thus his lectures on metaphysics shed new light on his Critique of Pure Reason, while the lecture on natural law is a valuable source for the understanding of his published legal writings.

Book Synopsis True and False Reform: What It Means to Be Catholic by : Gerhard Cardinal Müller
Download or read book True and False Reform: What It Means to Be Catholic written by Gerhard Cardinal Müller and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2023-03-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From her very beginning, the Church has been entrusted with the universal commission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19), offering to the entire world the new life and communion with God that is made available in Christ through Baptism and the Christian confession of faith. This charge requires of the Church and her members both an orientation to God and a responsibility for the world—neither can be neglected, as they form an indissoluble relational unity that flows from the person of Christ, the “one mediator between God and men”(1 Tim 2:5). Yet in the current age, the Church appears forced to choose between God and the world, between the identity of the faith and its relevance for modern humanity, between fidelity to Revelation and innovation. In True and False Reform, Gerhard Cardinal Müller seeks to provide an aid for navigating the tensions, confusions, and divisions of this modern crisis, directing our attention to the Church’s essence, characteristics, life, and mission—not as one religion among others, but as the site of Christ’s saving presence with humanity. It is Christ who is the Church’s life and foundation, and Christ, too, who is the source and end of that transformation according to his likeness to which all are called. Müller shows that this universal call to renewal in Christ—in faith, life, and prayer—is the basis of the Church’s catholicity, the principal of all true reform, and the impetus for Catholics’ journeying together with Christians from other churches and ecclesial communities toward perfect unity in Christ.

Book Synopsis Complex Democracy by : Volker Schneider
Download or read book Complex Democracy written by Volker Schneider and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a state-of-the art collection of original contributions on democracy, addressing three related themes: the complexity of modern democracies and their structural diversity; coping strategies of democracies in times of crises; and current and potential trajectories and transformations of democracy. The first part of the book maps the democratic landscape by revealing the diversity of democratic political systems, through either comparative analysis or case studies on the specific nature of political and administrative systems in interest intermediation and identity construction. The second part presents articles that investigate the response of democracies to times of crisis, with an emphasis on political economies and policy processes within the European Union. The third part offers studies on democracies that explore their adaptive potential in the context of globalization and in that of broader technical, institutional or cultural changes.
Book Synopsis Warum LäSst Ein Ordentlicher Gott Unordnung Zu? by : Patience Johnson
Download or read book Warum LäSst Ein Ordentlicher Gott Unordnung Zu? written by Patience Johnson and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
