Book Synopsis Discrete Models Of Fluid Dynamics by : A S Alves
Download or read book Discrete Models Of Fluid Dynamics written by A S Alves and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-04-30 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments of discrete methods of fluid dynamics, particularly the two most relevant aspects: the “half” discrete case — discrete Boltzmann equation; and the “totally” discrete one — lattice gas were discussed. Both the conceptual and numerical significance of these discrete models were covered as well as the mathematical problems which arise from them. This Colloquium is the third of a series initiated in Santa Fe (USA 1986) the second having taken place in Torino (Italy 1988).

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the symposium held on Friday 6 July 1990 at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), France, in honor of Professor Henri Cabannes on the occasion of his retirement. There were about one hundred participants from nine countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the USA. Many of his past students or his colleagues were among the participants. The twenty-six papers in this volume are written versions submitted by the authors and cover almost all the fields in which Professor Cabannes has actively worked for more than forty-five years. The papers are presented in four chapters: classical kinetic theory and fluid dynamics, discrete kinetic theory, applied fluid mechanics, and continuum mechanics. The editors would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous spon sors of the symposium: the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (especially Academician R. Dautray and Dr. N. Camarcat) and Direction des Recherches et Etudes Techniques (especially Professor P. Lallemand). Many thanks are also due to all the participants for making the symposium a success. Finally, we thank Professor W. Beiglbock and his team at Springer-Verlag for producing this volume.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems by : Claude Carasso
Download or read book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems written by Claude Carasso and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of nonlinear hyperbolic problems has been expanding very fast over the past few years, and has applications - actual and potential - in aerodynamics, multifluid flows, combustion, detonics amongst other. The difficulties that arise in application are of theoretical as well as numerical nature. In fact, the papers in this volume of proceedings deal to a greater extent with theoretical problems emerging in the resolution of nonlinear hyperbolic systems than with numerical methods. The volume provides an excellent up-to-date review of the current research trends in this area.

This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book was conceived by the authors some time in 1988, and a first outline of the manuscript was drawn up during a summer school on mathematical physics held in Ravello in September 1988, where all three of us were present as lecturers or organizers. The project was in some sense inherited from our friend Marvin Shinbrot, who had planned a book about recent progress for the Boltzmann equation, but, due to his untimely death in 1987, never got to do it. When we drew up the first outline, we could not anticipate how long the actual writing would stretch out. Our ambitions were high: We wanted to cover the modern mathematical theory of the Boltzmann equation, with rigorous proofs, in a complete and readable volume. As the years progressed, we withdrew to some degree from this first ambition- there was just too much material, too scattered, sometimes incomplete, sometimes not rigor ous enough. However, in the writing process itself, the need for the book became ever more apparent. The last twenty years have seen an amazing number of significant results in the field, many of them published in incom plete form, sometimes in obscure places, and sometimes without technical details. We made it our objective to collect these results, classify them, and present them as best we could. The choice of topics remains, of course, subjective.

Book Synopsis The Relativistic Boltzmann Equation: Theory and Applications by : Carlo Cercignani
Download or read book The Relativistic Boltzmann Equation: Theory and Applications written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the theory and applications of the relativistic Boltzmann equation in a self-contained manner, even for those readers who have no familiarity with special and general relativity. Though an attempt is made to present the basic concepts in a complete fashion, the style of presentation is chosen to be appealing to readers who want to understand how kinetic theory is used for explicit calculations. The book will be helpful not only as a textbook for an advanced course on relativistic kinetic theory but also as a reference for physicists, astrophysicists and applied mathematicians who are interested in the theory and applications of the relativistic Boltzmann equation.

Book Synopsis Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, Applications by : Thomas Y. Hou
Download or read book Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, Applications written by Thomas Y. Hou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on "Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications'' was held in CalTech on March 25-30, 2002. The conference was the ninth meeting in the bi-annual international series which became one of the highest quality and most successful conference series in Applied mathematics. This volume contains more than 90 contributions presented in this conference, including plenary presentations by A. Bressan, P. Degond, R. LeVeque, T.-P. Liu, B. Perthame, C.-W. Shu, B. Sjögreen and S. Ukai. Reflecting the objective of series, the contributions in this volume keep the traditional blend of theory, numerics and applications. The Hyp2002 meeting placed a particular emphasize on fundamental theory and numerical analysis, on multi-scale analysis, modeling and simulations, and on geophysical applications and free boundary problems arising from materials science and multi-component fluid dynamics. The volume should appeal to researchers, students and practitioners with general interest in time-dependent problems governed by hyperbolic equations.
