Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One night, while visiting San Francisco, I had a intriguing encounter with a distressed and well traveled dresser. This chance meeting sparked the gray matter deep inside my skull. I became obsessed with writing and illustrating a childrens book about a dresser! It was my opportunity to express my art and explore the world of words. Being a giant six foot, 250 pound child myself, it seemed quite natural to write a book for kids. . So after many, many, re-writes, I am proud to present Giuseppes Dresser. Take a nostalgic journey and visit the town of Falling Leaf Falls. In the year 1939, this quaint little town, deep in the heart of Maine, had 932 inhabitants. Acts of kindness and good deeds were the order for every day. Children used their imagination to play. Hand held electronic devices didnt exist. The good town folk worked very hard and when a holiday rolled around they rewarded themselves with a joyous celebration. Our hero, Giuseppe, was the town craftsman. He created many carousel animals for many a circus. My story begins when a spoiled, little girl asked him to make her a beautiful dresser. In this case, our hero creates another hero with the secret of his magic. Perhaps the most incredible piece of furniture ever created. Give a read and see how this dresser changes the lives of every child it comes in contact with.

New York, 1933: The city and the nation are in the depths of the Great Depression. The crime families of New York have prospered in this time, but with the coming end of Prohibition, a battle is looming that will determine which organizations will rise and which will face a violent end. For Vito Corleone, nothing is more important that his family's future. While his youngest children, Michael, Fredo, and Connie, are in school, unaware of their father's true occupation, and his adopted son Tom Hagen is a college student, he worries most about Sonny, his eldest child. Vito pushes Sonny to be a businessman, but Sonny-17 years-old, impatient and reckless-wants something else: To follow in his father's footsteps and become a part of the real family business.

Book excerpt: Featuring 140 mouthwatering new recipes, a gastronomic journey of the Italian regions that have inspired and informed Lidia Bastianich's legendary cooking. For the home cook and the armchair traveler alike, Lidia's Italy offers a short introduction to ten regions of Italy—from Piemonte to Puglia—with commentary on nearby cultural treasures by Lidia's daughter Tanya, an art historian. · In Istria, now part of Croatia, where Lidia grew up, she forages again for wild asparagus, using it in a delicious soup and a frittata; Sauerkraut with Pork and Roast Goose with Mlinzi reflect the region’s Middle European influences; and buzara, an old mariner’s stew, draws on fish from the nearby sea. · From Trieste, Lidia gives seafood from the Adriatic, Viennese-style breaded veal cutlets and Beef Goulash, and Sacher Torte and Apple Strudel. · From Friuli, where cows graze on the rich tableland, comes Montasio cheese to make fricos; the corn fields yield polenta for Velvety Cornmeal-Spinach Soup. · In Padova and Treviso rice reigns supreme, and Lidia discovers hearty soups and risottos that highlight local flavors. · In Piemonte, the robust Barolo wine distinguishes a fork-tender stufato of beef; local white truffles with scrambled eggs is “heaven on a plate”; and a bagna cauda serves as a dip for local vegetables, including prized cardoons. · In Maremma, where hunting and foraging are a way of life, earthy foods are mainstays, such as slow-cooked rabbit sauce for pasta or gnocchi and boar tenderloin with prune-apple Sauce, with Galloping Figs for dessert. · In Rome Lidia revels in the fresh artichokes and fennel she finds in the Campo dei Fiori and brings back nine different ways of preparing them. · In Naples she gathers unusual seafood recipes and a special way of making limoncello-soaked cakes. · From Sicily’s Palermo she brings back panelle, the delicious fried chickpea snack; a caponata of stewed summer vegetables; and the elegant Cannoli Napoleon. · In Puglia, at Italy’s heel, where durum wheat grows at its best, she makes some of the region’s glorious pasta dishes and re-creates a splendid focaccia from Altamura. There’s something for everyone in this rich and satisfying book that will open up new horizons even to the most seasoned lover of Italy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genoa completed its transformation from a faded maritime power into a thriving banking center for Europe in the seventeenth century. The wealth accumulated by its leading families spurred investment in the visual arts on an enormous scale. This volume explores how artists both foreign and native created a singularly rich and extravagant expression of the baroque in works of extraordinary variety, sumptuousness, and exuberance. This art, however, has remained largely hidden behind the facades of the city's palaces, with few works, apart from those by the school's great expatriates, found beyond its borders. As a result, the Genoese baroque has been insufficiently considered or appreciated.0Lavishly illustrated, 'A Superb Baroque' is comprehensive, encompassing all the major media and participants. Presented are some 140 select works by the celebrated foreigners drawn to the city and its flourishing environment. Offering three levels of exploration-essays that frame and interpret, section introductions that characterize principal currents and stages, and texts that elucidate individual works-this volume is by far the most extensive study of the Genoese baroque in the English language.00Exhibition: National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, USA (03.05.-16.08.2020) / Scuderie del Quirinale, Rome, Italy (03.10.2020 - 10.01.2021).
