Book Synopsis Confessions of an Enron Executive by : Brewer Lynn
Download or read book Confessions of an Enron Executive written by Brewer Lynn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ESPIONAGE. FRAUD. POLITICS. "This book is one of the most chilling and compelling business stories I've ever read. Lynn Brewer lived the Enron story, and in a deeply personal, yet highly professional way, lets us peek into what can go horribly wrong in a publicly-traded business. There are some great lessons for leadership in this tale." Oren Harari, Author, The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell "In this incredibly lucid and juicy account of Enron's shenanigans, Lynn Brewer courageously reveals what went on behind the scenes. What she reports will shock the financial press who voted Enron "the most innovative and admired" five years in a row. It will shame research analysts and investors who drove Enron's stock up into the stratosphere - while never being able to explain how Enron made money. Brewer hasn't forgotten the teachers, the small business owners and retirees who lost a bundle when the house of cards came crashing down. She urges us to see Enron not simply as the failure of a few people and institutions. No, it is symptomatic of our win-at-any-cost culture. To prevent future Enrons, we all must look to see how our choices perpetuate this culture, which ultimately, like Enron, is unsustainable." L. J. Rittenhouse, Author, Do Business With People You Tru$t: Balancing Profits and Principles "Lynn Brewer unabashedly exposes the unchecked greed and chicanery operating in the leadership of Enron. Her story clearly reveals how the unethical leadership at Enron led to an unbearable culture of emotional turbulence and fear, drawing everyone into a web of deceit. Readers will get the inside view of one of the country's biggest corporate scandals." Danna Beal, M.Ed., Author, Tragedy in the Workplace: The Longest Running Show in the Country LIES. DECEPTIONS. SCANDAL. ENRON. Confessions of an Enron Executive: A Whistlebower's Story, is Lynn Brewer's gripping account of nearly three years spent with the company that has come to symbolize the worst in corporate greed. Lynn's riveting tale takes you deep into the heart of Enron for a shocking look at both the notorious illicit deals and the unscrupulous people who made them. Having spent time with Enron's water company, trading division, power trading desk, and the broadband unit, coupled with Lynn's background in accounting and law, a scandalous portrait emerges of a company run amok in the name of naked avarice. Fascinating, revelatory, and often times hilarious, Confessions of an Enron Executive: A Whistleblower's Story details the riveting account of her career at Enron, and her decision to blow the whistle to lawyers and the United States Government, long before the world had ever heard of Sherron Watkins. Book excerpt: An anthology of ten plays embodying the Russian literary movement that began in the late twentieth century. The plays selected for this anthology reflect the issues and styles typical of the new wave of dramatic writing in Russia. New drama flourished (almost) exclusively in small spaces, often in dingy basements that employed and accommodated small numbers of people. The big theaters largely turned a blind eye to what was happening on small stages and in backrooms in playhouses, libraries, and community centers in a few chosen hot spots around Russia: primarily Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Togliatti. In many cases, they took actively hostile stances toward it. This would change, however. And by the beginning of the century’s second decade, new drama was threatening to become a mainstream phenomenon. Not every theater staged plays associated with new drama, but almost every one began staging plays influenced by the themes, methods, and language of the new drama movement. Featuring work from Yury Klavdiev, Olga Mukhina, Pavel Pryazhko, Vasily Sigarev, Maksym Kurochkin, Mikhail Durnenkov, Vyacheslav Durnenkov, Yaroslava Pulinovich, Yelena Gremina, and Maxim Osipov. “Few people know more about what is happening on the Moscow scene than John Freedman (including few Russians). As Moscow Times theater critic throughout the post-Soviet period John could well have seen more theatrical productions in Russia than anyone else. I can’t imagine anyone who would do a better job.” —Blair A. Ruble, Director, Program on Global Sustainability & Resilience, Woodrow Wilson Center “While other existing volumes focus on 18th, 19th, and early 20th century Russian drama, Freedman’s edition would present the unique and important contributions of the new generation of Russian writers portraying the realities and experiences of a post-Soviet generation. John has carefully selected a representative cohort of ten of the most visible, productive, and influential of these writers for the volume.” —Thomas J. Garza, University Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor, University of Texas at Austin

Book Synopsis The Peter Blauner Collection Volume One by : Peter Blauner

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gripping crime thrillers from the New York Times–bestselling author of The Intruder and Proving Ground—“Nobody writing suspense novels does it as well” (James Patterson). Praised by everyone from Stephen King and James Patterson to Dennis Lehane and James Ellroy, New York Times–bestselling author Peter Blauner has proven himself a master of the crime thriller. In the three novels collected here—including Blauner’s Edgar Award–winning debut—the former journalist delivers breathtaking suspense alongside provocative questions of morality and ethics. Slow Motion Riot: Blauner’s Edgar Award–winning first novel is “a thriller with a conscience” (Entertainment Weekly). That conscience belongs to probation officer Steven Baum, who still hopes to make a difference in a city plagued by drugs, murders, and corruption. But his newest charge is about to challenge him to his core. Darryl King is not just a small-time drug dealer—he’s a psychopathic cop-killer. “Harrowing.” —The Washington Post “Exceptionally well done.” —Andrew Vachss Casino Moon: Blauner’s story of the son of an Atlantic City mobster is “a gritty novel with integrity and style” (James Patterson). Anthony Russo’s scheme for staying out of the family crime business is to manage a has-been boxer’s comeback. But it’s Russo who ultimately takes the fall, as he discovers it’s not so easy to escape the sins of his father. “You could cut a lip on his dialogue.” —The New York Times “This book has it all . . . Blauner is . . . brilliant.” —James Ellroy Man of the Hour: When high school English teacher David Fitzgerald rescues a student after a terrorist bomb explosion on a school bus, he is lauded as a hero—until an ambitious reporter raises suspicions about Fitzgerald’s involvement and he finds himself hounded by the media and under investigation by the police. “A remarkable achievement—I loved it and couldn’t put it down.” —Stephen King “As impressive for its realism as for its suspense.” —Publishers Weekly
