Book Synopsis Giant Resonance Effects in Radiative Capture by :
Download or read book Giant Resonance Effects in Radiative Capture written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technique of capture reaction studies of giant resonance properties is described, and a number of examples are given. Most of the recent work of interest has been in proton capture, in part because of the great utility (and availability) of polarized beams; most of the discussion concerns this reaction. Alpha capture, which has been a useful tool for exploring isoscalar E2 strength, and neutron capture are, however, also treated. 46 references, 14 figures. (RWR).
Download or read book Giant Resonances written by M. N. Harakeh and published by Oxford Studies in Nuclear Phys. This book was released on 2001 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giant resonances are collective excitations of the atomic nucleus, a typical quantum many-body system. The study of these fundamental modes has in many respects contributed to our understanding of the bulk behavior of the nucleus and of the dynamics of non-equilibrium excitations. Although the phenomenon of giant resonances has been known for more than 50 years, a large amount of information has been obtained in the last 10 years. This book gives an up-to-date, comprehensive account of our present knowledge of giant resonances. It presents the experimental facts and the techniques used to obtain that information, describes how these facts fit into theoretical concepts and how this allows to determine various nuclear properties which are otherwise difficult to obtain. Included as an introduction is an overview of the main facts, a short history of how the field has developed in the course of time, and a discussion of future perspectives.

Book excerpt: Neutron Physics and Nuclear Data in Science and Technology, Volume 3: Neutron Radiative Capture discusses topics that help bridge the gap between experimental and theoretical scientists and applications scientists and engineers. The first chapter discusses the theory of slow neutron radiative capture, while the second chapter covers fast neutron radiative capture. Chapter III talks about methods for calculating neutron capture cross sections and gamma-ray spectra, while Chapter IV deals with the measurement techniques for radiative neutron capture, and Chapter V discusses neutron capture processes in fission reactors. The sixth chapter covers applications to stellar nucleosynthesis and the seventh chapter covers the practical uses of neutron capture gamma-ray spectroscopy. The book is meant for the use of graduate students who are knowledgeable about basic nuclear physics.

Download or read book Capture Reaction K[sup]39[/sup](p, {gamma})Ca[sup]40[/sup] in the Giant Resonance Region written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 90 deg differential cross sections were measured for proton radiative capture in 39K at 6 to 15 MeV. The yield of gamma rays from transitions to the ground state of 40Ca was found to pass through a giant resonance for excitation energies between 18 and 22 MeV, and four more fine structure peaks were found. In addition to gamma rays from transitions to the ground state of 40Ca, a secondary, lower energy spectral line was also found. (C.E.S.).

Book Synopsis Coupled-Channel Models of Direct-Semidirect Capture Via Giant-Dipole Resonances by :
Download or read book Coupled-Channel Models of Direct-Semidirect Capture Via Giant-Dipole Resonances written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semidirect capture, a two-step process that excites a giant-dipole resonance followed by its radiative de-excitation, is a dominant process near giant-dipole resonances, that is, for incoming neutron energies within 5 20 MeV. At lower energies such processes may affect neutron capture rates that are relevant to astrophysical nucleosynthesis models. We implement a semidirect capture model in the coupled-channel reaction code Fresco and validate it by comparing the cross section for direct-semidirect capture 208Pb(n, g)209Pb to experimental data. We also investigate the effect of low-energy electric dipole strength in the pygmy resonance. We use a conventional single-particle direct-semidirect capture code Cupido for comparison. Furthermore, we present and discuss our results for direct-semidirect capture reaction 130Sn(n, g)131Sn, the cross section of which is known to have a significant effect on nucleosynthesis models.
