Ergebnis dieser Bemühungen war eine Masse von seriösen und weniger seriösen Berichten und Studien, die es der Leserschaft schwer machte, sich ein sachlich korrektes Bild über die Situation machen zu können. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll dem interessierten Leser die Möglichkeit geben, sich einen Überblick über die Resultate der Wissenschaft zu verschaffen, um ihn so zu einem eigenen kritischen Umgang mit diesem Thema zu befähigen. Einleitend soll in Kapitel 1 die Thematisierung des Forschungsge-genstandes „Gewalt an Schulen“ dargestellt werden. Dabei wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob schulische Gewalt 1 ein neu entstandenes Problem der heutigen Zeit ist oder lediglich durch Medieninszenierungen erneut in das Blickfeld der Öffentlichkeit geraten ist. Darauf aufbauend werden die Studien der 90er Jahre sowohl mit ihren inhaltlichen als auch methodische Gemeinsamkeiten und Schwierigkeiten präsentiert, deren übergreifende Ergebnisse im weiteren Verlauf des Kapitels zusammengefasst werden. Bevor im 2. Kapitel fünf ausgewählte Forschungsstudien über „Gewalt an Schulen“ vorgestellt werden, wird kritisch hinterfragt, inwieweit die Medien ein realistisches Abbild der Wirklichkeit erzeugen oder sie vielleicht selbst durch zunehmende Skandalisierung und Dramatisierung des Ge-genstandes ein Teil des Problems sind. Nach der Zusammenfassung der Studien im 2. Kapitel folgt in Kapitel 3 ein inhaltlicher Vergleich thematischer Schwerpunkte, wie das Ausmaß der Gewalt an Schulen, die Beziehung zwischen Geschlecht, Alter und Schulform und schulischer Gewalt sowie der unterschiedliche Einfluss familiärer Faktoren auf gewalttätiges Schülerverhalten. 2 Die Schlussbetrachtung greift erneut die zusammenfassenden Ergebnisse aus Teil I und II auf, deren Gehalt, aufgrund methodischer und inhaltlicher Schwächen der Durchführung der empirischen Untersuchungen, kritisch hinterfragt wird. Abschließend wird ein Ausblick auf bewährte Präventions- und Interventionsmöglichkeiten gegeben, die der Forderung der Öffentlichkeit nach Eingreifen und Verhindern von Schulgewalt Rechnung tragen sollen.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people.
