Sollte dieser Wandel eine Annäherung an deutsche Verhaltensmuster bzw. Wertemuster andeuten, ist davon auszugehen, dass er die Geschäftsbeziehungen zwischen Japanern und Deutschen erleichtern sowie Kommunikationsprobleme und Missverständnisse auflösen könnte. 6 Abstract The present draft refers to the seminar paper given during class and deals with the social change in Japan and their possible effects on the problematical business connections between Japanese and Germans. The Japanese culture and mentality results from historical events and three religions: Shinto, Confucianism and Buddhism. A traditional Japanese characterizes the observance of hierarchical structures, which means showing respect for elder people, being ambitious, disciplined and submissive. These characteristics are also laid down in the business structures and methods. And there lies the problem in the business connection to Germany or western nations, because western civilizations have already removed hierarchical struktures. But since the 2nd World War several surveys have been led through with the findings that the Japanese people undergo a certain change of values: traditional values go down in value, ́modern ́ ones like individualism, self-realization and equality of genders gain in importance. This process also affects the business structures, at the moment only sporadically, but if the change of values continues, the school system and enterprises will have to adapt to this trend. As a result Japanese might shed these traditional structures and be less complicated and more open for foreign countries in the time of globalization, otherwise it might even lose in its competitiveness.
