Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As intercultural encounters between people in the modern world become more common, important questions have been raised about the nature of culture-specific differences and similarities. Focusing on the relationship between culture and human development, this timely book offers an interdisciplinary exploration of key developmental processes. It combines psychological and sociological approaches with cross-cultural research to examine phenomena such as the transfer of culture between generations and the universality of attachment theory. Drawing on detailed research from a range of cultural groups, leading international researchers consider the impact of social change and modernization on the development of the individual and at the societal level. Theoretical and methodological issues are presented in terms of how to apply the results of cross-cultural research as well as recent empirical research done in specialized areas of the field. Finally, short-term intercultural exchanges are examined and used to suggest some of the potential practical uses of cross-cultural research for the future. This book will be essential reading for anyone studying or researching in cultural psychology, cross-cultural psychology, acculturation or behavioral development. It will also prove an invaluable source of information for anyone interested in sociology and the social sciences in general.

This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Is democracy in crisis?” Against the background of a visible loss of trust in political, economic, religious and other institutions in Japan and Germany, this question is being posed with increasing urgency. This volume brings together contributions from political sciences, sociology, economics, psychology, history, law, and educational science to shed light on the future of our democracies, economies, educational systems, party politics, national policies, and social-structural changes, as well as socialization in the family and school, and related value changes. By focusing on Japan and Germany, and including examples from Western Europe and East Asia, this publication will determine transnational tendencies and provide an understanding of the different consequences of development from country to country against the background of different historical-cultural traditions and institutional realities.

Book Synopsis Cornerstones of Attachment Research by : Robbie Duschinsky
Download or read book Cornerstones of Attachment Research written by Robbie Duschinsky and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access title available under the terms of a [CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 International] licence. It is free to read at Oxford Clinical Psychology Online and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. Attachment theory is among the most popular theories of human socioemotional development, with a global research community and widespread interest from clinicians, child welfare professionals, educationalists and parents. It has been considered "one of the most generative contemporary ideas" about family life in modern society. It is one of the last of the grand theories of human development that still retains an active research tradition. Attachment theory and research speak to fundamental questions about human emotions, relationships and development. They do so in terms that feel experience-near, with a remarkable combination of intuitive ideas and counter-intuitive assessments and conclusions. Over time, attachment theory seems to have become more, rather than less, appealing and popular, in part perhaps due to alignment with current concern with the lifetime implications of early brain development Cornerstones of Attachment Research re-examines the work of key laboratories that have contributed to the study of attachment. In doing so, the book traces the development in a single scientific paradigm through parallel but separate lines of inquiry. Chapters address the work of Bowlby, Ainsworth, Main and Hesse, Sroufe and Egeland, and Shaver and Mikulincer. Cornerstones of Attachment Research utilises attention to these five research groups as a lens on wider themes and challenges faced by attachment research over the decades. The chapters draw on a complete analysis of published scholarly and popular works by each research group, as well as much unpublished material.

Book Synopsis Impact of Culture on Human Interaction by : Hede Helfrich
Download or read book Impact of Culture on Human Interaction written by Hede Helfrich and published by Hogrefe & Huber Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will cultural diversity inevitably result in a "clash" (antagonism) between cultural groups, or can we rise to the "challenge" of applying global standards of thought and behavior across diverse cultures? This is the main question examined in this unique book.Based on experiences and research in the context of the political, social, and economic reconstruction of the former Soviet Union, the book focuses on the risks and opportunities of intercultural cooperation and cultural diversity. The first part examines the administrative and political reforms in contemporary Russia from a comparative viewpoint. Capturing the polarities between governmental centralization and social self-organization, the contributions diagnose the roots of social conflicts in Russia and other countries and try to identify societal characteristics that may provide opportunities for mutual transfer of knowledge between East and West. The second part analyzes universal versus culture-specific aspects of human resource management. It addresses similarities and differences in values, work motivation, and decision-making in different cultures. As well as outlining future trends of cultural divergence and cultural convergence, possible means of promoting cultural synergy and concrete examples of this in the fields of economics and education are presented and evaluated. The uniqueness of the book lies in its interdisciplinary and international perspectives: Experts in the fields of sociology, philosophy, economics, psychology, political science, and administration from Russia, Moldavia, Germany, The Netherlands, USA, China, South Korea, and Japan help to bridge the gap between different disciplines as well as between different countries.Providing new theoretical insights as well as practical advice, this volume is of interest for a wide audience, including researchers and students of the above fields, as well as managers in business, administration, and education.
Book Synopsis Pursuit of Meaning by : Jürgen Straub
Download or read book Pursuit of Meaning written by Jürgen Straub and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2015-07-31 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fields of cross-cultural and cultural psychology both acknowledge the role of `culture' for the constitution of a meaningful practice. There are notable differences as well as remarkable commonalities between nomologically oriented cross-cultural psychology on the one hand and interpretive cultural psychology on the other. Contributions to this book discuss recent theoretical and methodological approaches from both fields in order to explore their joint potential for an advancement of the concept of culture, for the theoretical conceptualization and methodical completion of comparative cultural studies and the scientific understanding of cultural difference. This volume includes contributions by Ernest E. Boesch, Kenneth J. Gergen, Rom Harré, Gustav Jahoda and Jaan Valsiner.

Dieser Kongressband enthält alle Vorträge der Eröffnungs- und Abschlussveranstaltung, der Plena sowie die Mittags- und Abendvorlesungen.
