Book Synopsis Zone Di Frattura in Epoca Moderna by : Almut Bues
Download or read book Zone Di Frattura in Epoca Moderna written by Almut Bues and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2005 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, there have not been many researches on border zones in Early Modern Europe. For the time before the emergence of nation-states, however, it is convenient to think in European cases, which indicate instability or cooperation in these zones of contact. Three representative geographic regions have been central to an international conference, which was questioning the specificities of zones of fracture. Poland-Lithuania has been linked with two zones (the Baltic Sea and the Balkans). The Northern Italian States were situated between two tectonic regions (the Balkans and the Rhine valley). The Balkans by themselves were divided into various mini zones, and confronted with the Ottoman Empire. The panels did not only try to look for comparisons, but intended to find out the complexity and the different experiences within zones of frontiers in an European context. The overlapping of various lines, especially in the fields of law, taxes and the Church has been brought into sharper focus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Germanys complex past is riddled with both stunning triumphs and staggering failures. Once little more than a federation of tribes, over the course of its history, it formed various alliances, some of which were broken while others survived and allowed Germany to become a significant power in Europe and the world. And although a sense of German national identity was centuries in the making, folk traditions, regional culture, and a robust intellectual tradition have endured throughout the ages and produced world-famous musicians, artists, and writers. Still, Germanys roles in both World Wars remains a significantand appallingpart of its history. This all-encompassing volume profiles Germany from antiquity to the present day, examining its layered past, including its transition from a world power to a divided state and the major economic strides it has made since unification.
