Download or read book Rifted Ocean-Continent Boundaries written by E. Banda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rifted Ocean-Continent Boundaries covers a wide range of topics, from quantitative modelling to current knowledge of the structure and evolution of specific margins around the world. Special emphasis is placed on the structure and evolution of various Atlantic margins. After an introduction to volcanic margin concepts, the first articles report the results of numerical models of the mechanics of rift propagation, melt generation and sources of extensional stresses that may cause break-up. One part of the book is dedicated to current knowledge of the structure and evolution of various Atlantic margins. After a brief incursion into the Mediterranean, succeeding articles report on the transform and active margins of the Ivory Coast-Ghana transform margin and the Sea of Japan.
Book Synopsis Geological Survey of Canada, Current Research (Online) no. 2005-D3 by : D. Calvin Campbell
Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada, Current Research (Online) no. 2005-D3 written by D. Calvin Campbell and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2005 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study uses newly acquired high-resolution seismic reflection data to present evidence of large-scale mass transport deposits throughout the Quaternary in southern Orphan Basin located off the northern slope of the Grand Banks. Mass transport deposits are those associated with slope failure and transport as slumps, slides, debris avalanches, or debris flows. The results reveal the types of mass transport deposits on the Basin slope & floor and their depositional pattern from the early Pleistocene to the present.
Book Synopsis Automated Stratigraphic Correlation by : F.P. Agterberg
Download or read book Automated Stratigraphic Correlation written by F.P. Agterberg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1990-04-26 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to recent developments in automated stratigraphic correlation of fossil data, using computer programs for ranking and scaling of stratigraphic events. Mainframes or microcomputers can be used to aid the stratigrapher during data inventory for a region or time period, for construction of a biozonation based on stratigraphic events, (such as the latest appearance datum of a fossil species), and for automated correlation. The book is intended for advanced geology students, research workers and teachers with a background in stratigraphy and an interest in using computer-based techniques for problem-solving.

Book Synopsis Geological and Tectonic Framework of Eastern Canada as Interpreted from Potential Field Imagery by : J. M. Woodside
Download or read book Geological and Tectonic Framework of Eastern Canada as Interpreted from Potential Field Imagery written by J. M. Woodside and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent compilation of all gravity and magnetic anomaly data for offshore and eastern Canada provides an unprecedented perspective on the geological framework of the region. Classification of the region by similarities in the patterns and trends of gravity and magnetic data observed at a scale of 1:5,000,000 indicates geological affinities within structural provinces and tectonic relationships between geological domains. This report examines the correlation between the potential field data and regional geology, and provides a key to the published results and current research on regional structure as interpreted using the available geophysical and geological information.
Book Synopsis Geological Synthesis of Baffin Island (Nunavut) and the Labrador-Baffin Seaway by : L. T. Dafoe
Download or read book Geological Synthesis of Baffin Island (Nunavut) and the Labrador-Baffin Seaway written by L. T. Dafoe and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Labrador Sea, Davis Strait, and Baffin Bay offshore regions, collectively referred to as the Labrador-Baffin Seaway, and their onshore margins including Baffin Island, Bylot Island, and West Greenland, form a region with a complex geological history developed through successive tectonic events. This complex geological and tectonic history is described in detail in this volume, a collaborative undertaking under the Geological Survey of Canada's Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals 2 program (GEM-2), with contributions from external partners. Knowledge from pre-existing studies, essential contributions from collaborators, and GEM research results have been incorporated into the 14 papers contained in this volume, which summarize previous geological and geophysical knowledge and include novel insights from a regional perspective that serve as a guide for future research and exploration activities. The papers in the volume highlight both onshore and offshore studies in order to produce a comprehensive synopsis of the geological history of the region, with corresponding high-resolution reference maps and figures, and select GIS data sets. This compilation is divided into sections covering Precambrian and Paleozoic geology, Mesozoic to present geology, and resources within the region"--Provided by publisher.

Download or read book Quaternary Environments written by J T Andrews and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-28 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1985, Quaternary Environments represents the culmination of Quaternary research in the region of Baffin Island, Baffin Bay and West Greenland over a period of twenty years and it will serve as a timely and complementary balance to the paleo- oceanographic studies in the NE North Atlantic. The region of Baffin Island, Baffin Bay and West Greenland is probably the best place in the world to examine the interactions between ice, land and oceans on timescales of a few hundred to many thousands of years. Two introductory chapters outline the history of research and the physical background. In Part II the evidence for glacial erosion and deposition over the eastern Canadian Arctic is examined and the history of the Baffin Island continental shelf is described. Part III deals with the paleo- oceanography of Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea through an examination of deep-sea cores dated by several different methods. In Part IV there is a comprehensive account of the stratigraphy of Baffin Island, Bylot Island, and West Greenland, from the Pliocene to the late Wisconsin. Part V examines the climatic effects of the past 10,000 years, considering evidence from pollen analysis, glacier fluctuations, changes of sea level and the response of early (Eskimo) man. This important volume will interest all quaternary scientists, especially those in glaciology, glacial geology, marine geology, and geomorphology.
