Book Synopsis Geometrical Optics of Weakly Anisotropic Media by : A A Fuki
Download or read book Geometrical Optics of Weakly Anisotropic Media written by A A Fuki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores recent developments in QIA and describes the application of the theory to different branches of wave physics, from plasma physics, quantum physics, and ionospheric radio wave propagation to acoustics, optics, and astrophysics. This is an up-to-the-minute exposition of the latest developments in an important new area, written by authors of outstanding reputation. A rich source of both theoretical methods and practical applications, it covers a wide range of problems of general physical significance. Until recently, there was no effective method for describing waves in weakly anisotropic inhomogeneous media. The method of quasi-isotropic approximation (QIA) of geometrical optics was developed to overcome this problem. The QIA approach bridges the gap between geometrical optics of isotropic media (Rytov method) and that of anisotropic media (Courant-Lax approach), thus providing a complete picture of the geometrical optics of inhomogeneous media.

The authors present some modifications and generalisations of QIA equations, and look at electromagnetic waves and optical and acoustic effects in weakly anisotropic media, as well as geometrical optics of 3D inhomogeneous media. The book closes with some quantum mechanical analogies. This is an up-to-the minute exposition of the latest developments in an important new area, written by authors of outstanding international reputation. A rich source of both theoretical methods and practical applications, this book covers a wide range of problems of general physical significance and will be of interest to those working in optics, acoustics, electrical engineering, radio engineering and wave propagation through plasma.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides concise and clear coverage of modern ray theory without the need of complicated mathematics. Comprehensive coverage is given to wave problems in engineering physics, considering rays and caustics as physical objects.
Book Synopsis Springer Series in Light Scattering by : Alexander Kokhanovsky
Download or read book Springer Series in Light Scattering written by Alexander Kokhanovsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a survey of modern theoretical and experimental techniques in studies of light scattering phenomena and radiative transfer processes in random media. It presents reviews on light scattering by sea water and bubbles, and includes a separate chapter addressing studies of the remote sensing of crystalline clouds with a focus on the shape of particles—a parameter rarely studied by passive remote sensing techniques. In particular, it offers a comprehensive analysis of polarized radiative transfer in optically active (e.g., chiral) light scattering media and explores advances in spectro-polarimetry of particulate media. Lastly it discusses new developments in light scattering for combustion monitoring.
Book Synopsis Caustics, Catastrophes and Wave Fields by : Yu.A. Kravtsov
Download or read book Caustics, Catastrophes and Wave Fields written by Yu.A. Kravtsov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caustics, Catastrophes and Wave Fields in a sense continues the treatment of the earlier volume 6 "Geometrical Optics of Inhomogeneous Media" by analysing caustics and their fields on the basis of modern catastrophe theory. The present volume covers local and uniform caustic asymptotic expansions: The Lewis-Kravtsov method of standard functions, Maslov's method of canonical operators , Orlov's method of interference integrals, as well as their modifications for penumbra, space-time, random and other types of caustics. All the methods are amply illustrated by worked problems concerning relevant wave-field applications.

This book was released on 2002-09-27 with total page 994 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern scientific investigations of earthquakes began in the 1880s, and the International Association of Seismology was organized in 1901 to promote collaboration of scientists and engineers in studying earthquakes. The International Handbook of Earthquake and Engineering Seismology, under the auspices of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI), was prepared by leading experts under a distinguished international advisory board and team of editors. The content is organized into 56 chapters and includes over 430 figures, 24 of which are in color. This large-format, comprehensive reference summarizes well-established facts, reviews relevant theories, surveys useful methods and techniques, and documents and archives basic seismic data. It will be the authoritative reference for scientists and engineers and a quick and handy reference for seismologists. Also available is The International Handbook of Earthquake and Engineering Seismology, Part B.

Book Synopsis Geometrical Optics of Inhomogeneous Media by : Yurii Aleksandrovich Kravtsov
Download or read book Geometrical Optics of Inhomogeneous Media written by Yurii Aleksandrovich Kravtsov and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-09-10 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is concerned with the fundamentals of up-to-date geo metrical optics treated as an approximate method of wave theory. Geometrical optics has changed dramatically over the last two decades. Primarily, it has acquired a number of novel disciplines: space-time geo metrical optics, the quasi-isotropic approximation, the modern theory of caustics related to catastrophe theory, and perturbation techniques for rays, to name only a few. Another acquisition is the reliable boundaries of appli cability for geometrical optics, based upon the concept of the Fresnel volume for a ray. These recent additions to the field are the focus of dis cussion in the book. We did not attempt to separate study-oriented and illustrative material from that intended for professionals, but rather we spread it throughout the text to facilitate for the reader the mastering of this attractive, intuitively appealing and efficient ray method. In preparing the manuscript we used a set of lecture notes devised for All-Union Schools on Diffraction and Wave Propagation, published in Rus sian. Sections 2.1-4,6 and 10 result from joint efforts of both authors. The other material of the book we wrote separately. I contributed Sects. 2.5,9 and 3.17 and Chap.4; Yu.l. Orlov prepared the rest. Unfortunately, he could not take part in the preparation of the English edition, as he died in 1982 at the age of 41, on the verge of what would have been great achieve ments considering his strong and original talent.
