Download or read book Road Guide to the John Day Area of Central Oregon written by Dennis Bokovoy and published by . This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first in a series of geological road guides for National Parks, National Monuments, and other significant geological areas. Parts of the John Day area have become the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The Federal Government has spent millions of dollars upgrading the area, including the building of a new, elaborate visitor center near the old Sheep Rock headquarters. All the exhibits and literature of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument interpret the geological formations, as well as the plants and animals, in terms of long ages and the theory of evolution. This road guide provides the alternative view within the Creation-Flood framework. It provides a mile-by-mile log of significant geological events and features, along with interesting historical tidbits. From the geological data in the area, the road guide shows that the Creation-Flood interpretation is superior to the evolutionary-long ages interpretation. The spiral binding and half-page size allows easy access while driving without damaging the binding of the book.

This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geology and Water Resources of a Portion of South-Central Oregon The rapidly increasing settlement and development Of the West which has accompanied the recent industrial expansion of the United States has led to a growth of interest in all of those factors that affect its adaptability to human needs. One of the clearest evidences of this increasing interest is the constant demand for definite and trust worthy information concerning its climate, soils, mineral resources, timber, and water. So great is this demand that the Federal and local bodies which have been organized to study the natural resources are scarcely able to meet it. In the arid and semiarid sections no question is of more vital importance than that Of water supply. Where water can be intro duced or developed in abundance colonization will take place; where water exists in limited quantity, sparse settlement is possible; but where water is'not to be had present conditions must continue. The water-resources branch of the United States Geological Survey has for many years been making systematic studies of water supplies, both surface and subsurface, and in connection with work under way in many localities, both in the East and in the West, in the fall of 1906 the writer was assigned to carry out a reconnaissance in south central Oregon. Book Synopsis Roadside Geology of Oregon by : Marli Bryant Miller
Download or read book Roadside Geology of Oregon written by Marli Bryant Miller and published by Roadside Geology. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the first edition of Roadside Geology of Oregon was published in 1978, it was revolutionarythe first book in a series designed to educate, inspire, and wow nongeologists. Back then, the implications of plate tectonic theory were only beginning to shape geologic research and discussion. Geologists hadnt yet learned that Oregons Klamath and Blue Mountains were pieces of far-traveled island arcs and ocean basins that had been piled against the growing North American continent. Steaming volcanoes, ghost forests, recent landslides, and towns heated with geothermal energy attest to Oregons still-prominent position at the edge of an active tectonic plate. Author, photographer, and geologist Marli Miller has written a completely new second edition based on the most up-to-date understanding of Oregons geology. Spectacular photographs showcase the states splendor while also helping readers understand geologic processes at work. Roadside Geology of Oregon, Second Edition, is a must-have for every Oregon resident, student, and rockhound.
