Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides diversified and comprehensive sedimentary, stratigraphic, and paleontological information services in China both for scientific research and educational purposes. Although China has the largest number of 11 “golden nails” profiles in the world, few of them has internationally renowned profiles with only traditional sedimentary methods and means for outcrops, logging, and seismic analysis. It combines multiple disciplines such as sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, geophysics, geochemistry, and methods such as big data and artificial intelligence to build open-source online digital platform of geological profiles. Based on the preparation and construction of a number of well-known classic sections of sedimentary geology at home and abroad, it has become an important platform for training of sedimentology talents.
Book Synopsis Rockslides and Rock Avalanches of Central Asia by : Alexander Strom
Download or read book Rockslides and Rock Avalanches of Central Asia written by Alexander Strom and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rockslides and Rock Avalanches of Central Asia: Distribution, Impacts, and Hazard Assessment arms scientists with an inclusive and specialized reference for future studies of large-scale bedrock landslides in Central Asia, a phenomenon that poses a major threat to local communities, infrastructure and industrial facilities. The book covers the Dzungaria, Tien Shan, and Pamir mountain systems that are characterized by arid climates and scarce forestation, and is an ideal reference for scientists searching for data that accurately summarizes bedrock landslides through the analyses of a multitude of case studies that have applications in comparable, global scenarios. Through its relatively low precipitation and good preservation of minor geomorphic features, particularly those formed by past landslides, this region provides opportunities for detailed study of the internal structure of landslide bodies. - Summarizes the present-day knowledge of bedrock landslide distribution in the Dzungaria, Tien Shan and Pamir mountains - Describes case studies illustrating both general characteristics of large bedrock landslides and other specific features, allowing comparative analysis of numerous case studies - Presents the classification of bedrock landslides and related models based on deposits, morphology and internal structures that can be applied to global locations

Book Synopsis The Rough Guide to Southwest China by : Rough Guides
Download or read book The Rough Guide to Southwest China written by Rough Guides and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rough Guide to Southwest China is the essential, full-color guide to China's most compelling region, from tropical rainforest to the snowbound heights of the Tibetan plateau and the mighty Yangzi River. Inside its modern cities you'll find lively restaurants and teahouses, busy streets and trendy bars. Further afield are historic old towns and trade roads, once trodden by merchants, Communist guerillas, third-century warriors, and European plant-hunters. Limestone peaks, caves, waterfalls, and the world's largest sinkholes compete for your attention alongside rare monkeys, birds, and-of course-pandas. Half of China's 56 recognized ethnic groups live in the region, too, including Tibetans, Miao, Dong, Yi, Bai, and Dai, enlivening the countryside with wooden villages, monastery towns, extreme rice terracing exquisite textiles, and exuberant festivals, and visitors can join pilgrims circuiting lamaseries, get a close-up view of monumental Buddhist sculptures, and climb holy mountains. With more than fifty full-color maps, vibrant color photos, honest reviews, and expert background, the Rough Guide is all you need. Originally published in print in 2012. Now available in ePub format.
Book Synopsis Taxonomy, Morphology, Masticatory Function and Phylogeny of Heterodontosaurid Dinosaurs by : Paul C. Sereno
Download or read book Taxonomy, Morphology, Masticatory Function and Phylogeny of Heterodontosaurid Dinosaurs written by Paul C. Sereno and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major study on heterodontosaurid dinosaurs is the first to review the taxonomy, morphology, functional anatomy, and phylogeny of this important early radiation of small-bodied herbivores. Heterodontosaurids persisted for approximately 100 My, from Late Triassic to Early Cretaceous time, during which they evolved some of the most sophisticated dentitions for processing plant materials. Some species required reevaluation to establish unequivocally their status as heterodontosaurids, such as Echinodon from rocks in southern England, one of the first and smallest dinosaurs ever described. Tianyulong from northern China is described in more detail in the study and is shown to have unusual skeletal proportions, including a relatively large skull and very short forelimb. A new taxon, Pegomastax africanus gen. n. sp. n., is described from southern Africa with a short parrot-shaped bill. Tooth replacement and tooth-to-tooth wear is more common than previously thought among heterodontosaurids, which the author argues are herbivores despite their prominent caniniform teeth. Heterodontosaurds appear to have split early in their history into a northern group with primitive, subtriangular crowns and a southern group with deeper crown proportions.
