Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After many years of geographical and bibliographical journeys, William Panczner has completed a project that many of us would have loved to initiate, but did not undertake because of its magnitude and intrinsic complexity. Not since L. Salazar Salinas, who is credited with authoring Bole tin numeros 40 and 41 (lnstituto Geologico de Mexico, 1922, 1923), has an author been able to provide readers with a comprehensive volume containing information that is both authentic and reliable on Mexican mineralogy, mineral species, and localities. This volume is the most complete synthesis about Mexican minerals and their occurrences to date. It is richly illustrated with photographs and drawings, is well documented, and is organized into four sections, making it easy to use and enjoyable to read. The introduction contains an interesting summary of the mining history and the development of mineralogy. It also describes, in a condensed but accurate and stimulating manner, the geography and the mineralogy of the country, dividing it into eleven mineral provinces. The author discusses eight of the more important mining districts in Mexico, which produce fine mineral speci mens. There is also a chronology of historical, geological, and mineralogical events in Mexico. This is followed by a bibliography with over 500 references on the subject.
Book Synopsis Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins by : Nancy D. Naeser
Download or read book Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins written by Nancy D. Naeser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of papers in this volume is a direct result of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists Research Symposium on "Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins: Methods and Case Histories" held as part of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention in New Orleans in March 1985. The original goal of the sym posium was to provide a forum where specialists from a variety of dis ciplines could present their views of methods that can be used to study the thermal history of a sedimentary basin or an important portion of a basin. An explicit part of that goal was to illustrate each method by presentation of a case history application. The original goal is addressed by the chapters in this volume, each of which emphasizes a somewhat different approach and gives field data in one way or another to illustrate the practical useful ness ofthe method. The significance of our relative ignorance of the thermal conductivities of sedimentary rocks, especially shales, in efforts to understand or model sedimentary basin thermal histories and maturation levels is a major thrust of the chapter by Blackwell and Steele. Creaney focuses on variations in kerogen composition in source rocks of different depositional environments and the degree to which these chem- . ically distinct kerogens respond differently to progressive burial heating.
Book Synopsis Minerals of Colorado: A 100-Year Record by : Edwin B. Eckel

This book was released on 2015-12-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a summary of the known facts about the minerals that make up the rocks, soils, and ore deposits of Colorado. Compilation and abridgment of the literature from 1858, when gold was discovered, through 1957 (with a few additions for 1958 and 1959) is supplemented by information from unpublished sources. Designed to be of use to both professional and amateur mineralogists, the main part of the report describes the chief occurrences of 445 mineral species,42 of them first found in Colorado, together with many subspecies, varieties, and discredited "type" species. Directions for finding these localities are also given in the text. The bibliography contains more than 800 selected references to the most significant literature on the subject
