This book was released on 1995 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation of the process of transcriptional elongation is an important control mechanism in the expression of some genes. To fully understand this form of regulation will require better understanding of the functions of transcription elongation factors. The goal of this work was to characterize the transcription elongation factor TFIIS from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, originally called P37. I demonstrated that, like the mammalian TFIIS proteins, the yeast protein stimulates RNA polymerase II to cleave the nascent RNA transcript and to read-through an intrinsic block to elongation. Investigation of the protein-protein contacts between TFIIS and RNA polymerase II indicated that the carboxyl-terminal domain of the largest subunit, subunit four, and subunit seven of the polymerase are not required for TFIIS to promote cleavage and read-through by the polymerase. In addition the carboxyl-terminal half of the yeast TFIIS protein is sufficient for both of these in vitro activities. This result is consistent with the previous results demonstrating the carboxyl-terminus of mouse TFIIS was sufficient to activate RNA polymerase in vitro.

Book Synopsis Genome Stability by : Igor Kovalchuk
Download or read book Genome Stability written by Igor Kovalchuk and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-09-03 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every species has to preserve the integrity of its genome to ensure faithful passage of genetic information to the progeny. At the same time, there are times during the life of the organism and population in general when a fine balance in genome stability and diversification has to be made to benefit the survival of the species. Genome Stability teaches the reader how various species maintain this fine balance in genome stability and genome diversification in response to their environments. Genome Stability covers a wide range of topics, including the genome stability of DNA/RNA viruses, prokaryotes, single cell eukaryotes, lower multicellular eukaryotes and mammals. Topics also include major DNA repair mechanisms, the role of chromatin in genome stability, human diseases associated with genome instability as well as changes in genome stability in response to aging. Finally, Genome Stability covers how epigenetic factors contribute to genome stability and how the species pass the memory of the encounters to the progeny, thus influencing the genome of the progeny in an indirect manner. This volume is an essential resource for geneticists, epigeneticists, and molecular biologists who are looking to gain a deeper understanding of this rapidly-expanding field, and can also be of great use to advanced students who are looking to gain additional expertise in genome stability. - Includes a collection of chapters on genome stability research from various kingdoms, including topics such as epigenetics and transgenerational effects - Provides the first comprehensive coverage of the differences in the mechanisms utilized by different organisms to maintain genomic stability - Contains applications of genome instability and its effect on human diseases - Explains how various species maintain the fine balance in genome stability and genome diversification in response to their environments
Book Synopsis Macromolecular Protein Complexes II: Structure and Function by : J. Robin Harris
Download or read book Macromolecular Protein Complexes II: Structure and Function written by J. Robin Harris and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-14 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book follows on from Volume 83 in the SCBI series (“Macromolecular Protein Complexes”), and addresses several important topics (such as the Proteasome, Anaphase Promoting Complex, Ribosome and Apoptosome) that were not previously included, together with a number of additional exciting topics in this rapidly expanding field of study. Although the first SCBI Protein Complex book focused on soluble protein complexes, the second (Vol. 87)addressed Membrane Complexes, and the third (Vol. 88) put the spotlight on Viral Protein and Nucleoprotein Complexes, a number of membrane, virus and even fibrillar protein complexes have been be considered for inclusion in the present book. A further book is also under preparation that follows the same pattern, in an attempt to provide a thorough coverage of the subject.
