Il est alors réalisé une étude de cas de bilinguisme précoce développés en milieu plurilingue (Algérie) et monolingue (France). La considération du fait que la bilingualité précoce constitue un processus de développement langagier spécifique implique une problématique du bilinguisme replacée dans le cadre d’une théorie du langage explicitant les rapports fonctionnels et structurels qui lient le langage à la cognition. Considérant que, dans le développement du langage, le jeu des processus cognitifs dépend des caractéristiques du langage en général et d’une langue en particulier, l’étude du bilinguisme précoce implique également une problématique interlangue. Au regard d’une telle problématique, les notions permettant l’identification des invariants cognitifs et linguistiques du processus de développement bilingue sont celles spécifiques à l’espace : les marqueurs de relations spatiales (locatifs) traduisent en effet des similitudes ou dissemblances dans leur organisation sémique et formelle.
